I'm new to DDO but we just got a new module with new outdoor areas, dragons, etc. and another module coming next month too. Seems now that LOTRO is done, they have more time to work on adding new content to both games.
I also haven't been playing for long, but for a person with a busy family and life this game fits in nicely. If you can play it > 40 hours a week you'll likely get bored fast. Myself, I love sittin for an hour or two in the evening and having some nice active combat fun with friends.
I enjoyed the style of this game, was interesting.
The one major - and by major meaning why I don't play it - problem for me was that every trap, every mob, every chest, every puzzle solved was in exactly the same place every time you went through a dungeon.
Has this been changed? Is there variation to the dungeons yet? Or is it still a case of running to exactly where the traps were etc?
I'd like to try this game again, but not if they haven't fixed that major, major flaw...
"(The) Iraqi people owe the American people a huge debt of gratitude." - George W Bush. Oh. My. God.
The newer dungeons have randomized traps, from what I've read, and the devs are debating going back and retrofitting the older ones with the new randomization tech, just like they're retrofitting a couple wilderness areas in the Module 4.1 patch (tomorrow) with their new wilderness tech, as well as adding a new wilderness area.
I agree it could stand some mob placement randomization too, although look at dungeons in every other MMO -- mobs are always in the same place.
A touch of Diablo-esque randomization would go a long way in DDO...
How is the population on the servers you've played on? I figure most people would be higher in levels now but is the low level areas empty? I remember trying the trail a little while ago, didn't want to resubscribe my account to just see if things changed, but the character I started foudn the beginning areas empty. I didn't push myself to get into the Market area (might be more peopel there), however for those starting the game gives off the impression that it's dead on the front. Not very welcoming if you are new starting the game.
I know many mmorpgs have this problem but I wish it would be address to a degree. First impressions mean a LOT and if they want new people to join it should be looked at.
I'm on Thelanis and it just depends on the time of day. Sometimes there's very few people in the Harbor, other times it's pretty crowded (usually starting late afternoon/early evening).

I am playing the EU version and sadly it is very empty in the low levels. The official boards are not really buzzing with activity either. It's a shame, I do enjoy the game (it's still new for me), but not finding any groups without long waits at around level 3 already is just boring.
Wonder what the general population is nowadays. Hope this game won't die.
EU has only 2 servers only nowadays. What about US?
I played the trial a couple of weeks ago, having previously had a fulll account with characters of every race and class, two or three of them at level 12.
The server population is not too bad, though a lot quieter overall than it used to be.
Getting a group was not too difficult and mostly I found that I did not have to solo if I did not want to. The spread of levels throughout the LFG list looked pretty even on all the usual favourites with plenty working on newer quests at level 12+
From what I saw, I would say that running some of the raid quests might be quite difficult since the overall server population definitely seems less and many of the larger guilds have either disappeared or clearly have fewer active members.
Playing a noob character I had the same frustrating boredom of re-running the same quests that I always ended up doing as a new character but there was a fair amount of support for playing a lowbie.
My personal feeling is that they desperately need to introduce at least one new starter zone so that people who are starting to work on 4th or 5th characters will not find re-running the Harbour as much of a complete bore as I now do. Bear in mind that I had 6 active characters and that some of them were rerolls so I basically knew every quest up to level 12 inside out, barring the Titan and Desert Queen raids which I knew only moderately well.
All in all the game is as good as it ever was. You couldnt say DDO was anything less than a very good MMO unless it was simply not your cup of tea.
At present, DDO is definitely still up there with the greats and well worth playing if you tried it out and enjoyed it. Even is you aim for fast as possible level up it will take you a month, two to fill out your character with some of the benefits of completing all quests in an area.
Then, also, DDO is one of the few games where rolling up an alt is actually a fun and productive process that lends to your overall enjoyment of and ability to get the most from the game.
So I would estimate that any player new tyo the game would get a full 6 months of seriously good gaming.
As for myself, the game wont pull me back till there is a lot more content at all levels.
Whoa...you guys still play DDO? I'm having too much fun playing NWN2. I'm really happy that a lot old school players are remaking some of my favorite classic DDO games into modules. Baldur's Gate and the Dungeons and Dragon Arcade game are being turn into NWN2 version of themselves. Someone is already work on Pool of Radiance and I can't wait to see future remakes of old NWN games.

NWN 2 sucks. I hate the camera controls, and the controls in general just aren't very fluid or user friendly. That in itself has been enough to keep me from even finishing the official campaign.
I would however like to see some more classes added to DDO.
I haven't played that game is awhile. I haven't really played anything since I bought Shadowrun for the Xbox 360. I know it's not an RPG, but that game is so much damn fun. It's hands down my favorite game.

My what a small sinking ship you're on. A huge amount of bugs in the game have been fixed, reports of expansion, epic levels, more feats. A lot of hakpaks and custom modules. Unlike NWN1, the player module community has grown more than the PW community. This is due to the hakpacks, the ability to creat haks to play other races like orcs and finally because players aren't stuck playing the same dungeon and the same module like DDO. Even without official campaign or PW, the player made modules are enough to keep you busy as the players make module better than Obsidian or Turbine ever could.
DDO I believe is suppose to get a monk and a druid, but they are going to suck hard because both the monk and druid need 20 levels to be really good, especially the monk.

You can post any kind of drivel about the game you want to, but the controls suck and it's just not all that fun. I don't play DDO that much and when I do it's a fun change of pace.
I don't play too many MMORPGs anymore.
It's the lamest concept ever. A bunch of people pay a monthly fee for a game they complain about. Developers have proven time and again that they don't really give a rats ass about their player bases. The genre is full of rehashed and boring grindfests and timesinks. There's tons of prepubescent and immature adults that take great joy in pissing all over someone ele's fun. The only reason I still post on these boards is because I use to play alot of MMOs and I would still play a really good one, but there doesn't seem to be one on the horizon.
And try not to be so smug. Small sinking ship? I'm willing to bet that DDO community is ten times larger than the NWN2 community.
"DDO I believe is suppose to get a monk and a druid, but they are going to suck hard because both the monk and druid need 20 levels to be really good, especially the monk."
Eh? Druids rock and roll at 8th level and could be grossly overpowered from that point until some recent rules changes, and monks... well, monks aren't anything great no matter what level they are.
NWN2 felt like I was playing turn-based D&D with everything covered in molasses. It felt so "cumbersome." I couldn't finish the game's campaign, either. But, I may give it another shot if the player base is stepping up like you said.
I had a similar experience with Temple of Elemental Evil's controls. The radial dial slowed the game, but after hotkeying various things, I had a blast.

1. Actually, they can rock you like hurricane at level 20 with their elemental forms.
2. I agree, the original campaign sucks, but player made modules kick butt. The modules put both DDO and the original campaign to shame, not to mention diversity in story and gameplay. DDO just felt like the same old same old and OC got frustrating.
3. I haven't played the ToE, but someone is making a remake of it, but it's in alpha stage right now.

You must be talking about a console game because NWN still uses the same hoykey functions it did in the last game. Camera isn't that bad either. DDO just sucked because it felt like the same mission all over game.
And I agree with the MMORPG, that's why I haven't been to MMORPG much. DDO is barely over 100k since it came out. NWN is still selling strong.
Ah Lastera, back to troll, and cause havok again, are we? I had hoped, in vain, you were wiser, than to rant on about a game you played till .... uh ... level 4, was it? Not even mentioning, when it was you played it.
Nice hijack of the thread as well, but if you brought it up, all I can say about NWN2 is they best fix the very poorly implemented features and spells before they add new ones, an amateur work, nwn2, obsidian is more than what they delivered with it.

Still lurking the cave, my troll friend. I came back for a short while to see if you guys bashing the players for disagree with you and I see things haven't changed. You don't even play NWN2 so you can't even comment on what goes on in NWN2.
Seeing as the boards don't move and you guys are still lurking, I guess it's time to go. I'll probably be back in a few months. Then again, I'm kind of getting sick of MMORPGs so I might not.

One quick tip to wherever it is you are going, learn some reasoning, will get you further.

I recently reactivated my sub and I've had alot of fun.
It's a refreshing break from the number mashing fests that have become the norm.
The one thing I have the hardest time with is that I always forget to block and dodge.
I certainly didn't think that I was going to have as much fun as I have been.
