For the most part an excellent game, I left it myself when the euro PVE servers lost a lot of players to the PVP servers. So maybe this would suit you down to the ground.
You can decorate your own house in full 3D, complete with pets ornaments and trophies from your adventures. Getting into someone else's house if you are not on the guest list is not gonna be likely. Losing in PVP, as far as I remember (possibly incorrectly), risks the loss of your gear but may not be a great gain since many items are race or class locked or something. Good money on lots of them tho
If you want lootable pvp try EVE. As for people crying about losing thier items then maybe they could make crafters useful and have them make pvp gear. In vanguard you have 3 or 4 sets of gear you use and carry with you all time. No reason AOC couldn't have a system like that. Lose your pvp gear? No Problem! Keep the Guild crafters supplied with what they need and they will keep you supplied with what you need. Everyone is happy.
I think part of the reason for the fear of FFA PVP and corpse looting is that most current gamers haven't ever played a game with that system. The old UO days (Pre-Trammel) was totally FFA PvP and there was corpse looting, housing (where you could rob someone blind if they didn't lock their door), etc.
Those were the best days I've ever had in all the MMOs I've played. The system was self-regulating and there were groups of "reds" roaming the countryside looking for easy targets, but there were always groups of "greens" doing the same thing. "Reds" couldn't enter cities without being attacked by guards, but "greens" could. Also, if a "green" attacked another "green", he turned "grey" and was temporarily "free game" to anyone who wanted to attack them without penalty. If a "green" attacked too many other "greens," he became a "red" and was permanently "fair game" until his kill-count dropped.
Those were the most memorable days of all my gaming experience. I remember when I convinced by brothers to start playing UO with me. They started playing when Trammel was created. It was PvE land with no FFA PVP. We original players coined the term "Care Bear Land," and that soon became a derogatory term for the PVE gamers who feared entering Felucca (the FFA land). It was difficult to convince one of my brothers to come to Felucca with us because he feared losing gear. But after a while, he became comfortable with the idea and let go of his fears. We began lurking throughout Felucca and had a blast. We hardly ever lost gear in PvP. We were very careful and deliberate, and there was a real sense of adventure, something to gain, and something to lose. Those were the most immersive days I've ever had in any MMO (even though the graphics were very primitive).
Another great benefit of this system is that items were not sold on Ebay since they were so easily lost in combat. It was truly a self-regulating system because there were no "built-in" safety net making the game totally boring like in many games now.
I believe if there was a modern FFA PVP game created as I've described, with true corpse-looting (100%), housing, etc... a lot of PVE gamers would try it out. Many would feel awakened from their sedated gaming experience and wake up to an exciting dawn of seriously fun form of MMO gaming.
I understand everyone has their own preference, and to each his own (seriously). But There is no game out there for those of us who want FFA PVP, housing, corpse-looting, etc. The PVE community has been heard loud and clear, and are countless "Care-Bear" games in existence now. Those voices have drowned out the voices of the PVP MMO RPG gamers who want real risk to exist in a truly immersive game again.
All I want is one game with these qualities. Maybe it won't be Conan. Maybe it will be something else, or maybe we'll have to wait a long time for it. So be it.

AAH! A troll fire! Quick, pour some Kool-Aid on it!!!
I salute the OP thats real pvp fo sho. yeah that was talk of the devs giving pvpers an FFA pvp server but then all the haters and carebears came in every last thread on those boards and through their salt on it. I can understand why they might be scared to try something new but going to the extent to troll every thread about it was a bit too much for me. especially seeing as how they didnt even have to worry bout playing on that server they could just roll on the 'normal' server.
not sure if the Devs are still taking a poll on that I just take it anymore and stopped going to the official forums it's overrun with carebears, trolls, and haters
see ya on EvE hoping those crooked CCP devs wont cheat me outta my fun
Boo hoo you can't steal people weapons, then have to spam "selling sword X" repetively to sell as you alredy have like 10 swords. Instead you can take a guilds battle keep off them and possibly even thier enitre player owned city on PvP servers. Hmm which do you prefer?
I'd prefer to collect blood money and spend it on pvp rewards such as an ownage sword, than grind players in pvp for thier nooby swords and have to sell them to buy something decent (noone carries decent stuff in pvp the other way). I'd laugh more at taking a guild battle keep, they'd be gutted.
I really dont get why all the carebears join a thread about a server with FFA pvp. if u dont like it play on the pve servers for crying out loud.
I can assure u though that no hardcore pvper will ever leave that server for another one, on the other hand maybe some carebears will join.
I mean pvp is a much greater challenge than raiding the same dungeon for 12123123+ times to get the "sword of 1000 truths" right? especially if u got something to loose i.e. your whole invetory!!!! who knows maybe all u pvers might like it for a change....
I would love to own a little cottage in the game. And for lotable corpses I think it should be like this: if you get killed in PvP your weapon drops to the ground and can be picked up by anyone but you cant loot anything else from whoever you killed in the game. This could also only apply to the really good weapons which means that if you have a "normal" weapon and get killed in PvP you still get to keep it.
I like the random looting, where if you kill me in pvp, theres a chance that any of my items become lootable, and all my coin is lootable too.
I agree. Random chance is better than a specific item. That way people dont go "item" hunting and make your nicer gear have a much lower chance to drop in the loot tables.
Thirty years of gaming experience...not sure if I should be proud of that www.mmoexaminer.blogspot.com
I would kill for Item looting in PVP. Just include it on one server. There are definitely a lot of people looking for this in an MMO. Look at all the hype that Darkfall has generated over the years because of the thought of an MMO with item looting coming out again.
This is 100% true. I really have been hoping for this for quite some time. However, those days are probably over because of the griefers that tend to ruin games that have item looting.

The typical corpse looting won't happen, even on FFA. Theres just too many issues to be addressed to a specific server ruleset for them to waste time balancing for both types of servers.
It's a well understood concept, but not a widely accepted for good reason -- Even "hardcore" pvpers (I'm actually for looting corpses, tbh, but it's not game breaking either way) will bum out when they get ganked and lose their gear, and saying otherwise is just hypocritical.
Any how many healers, estimated, would you find on a FFA hardcore server? Who cares, right? Roll that assassin, jump into your stealth zerg and farm away! On Shadowbane, you'd be damned if you weren't ever able to get into that huge zerg guild as a non-stealther.
Honestly though, we'll have to deal... I mean... Damn, I wanted a sort of "active" shield block system, but looks like its being placed on passive/chances instead. Say someone swings right, you use your left swing just in the nick of time to block the attack.
Omg i d love having corpse looting UO or shadowbane style.
But every carebear seems to be offended by the idea that maybe one of the 150 servers will have a true FFA setup? Why do u even bother????? if u dont like it, dont play it, i m sure there will be servers for every1's appetite

What's funny is the game is farther from release now than it was when this thread was live...
