im on a laptop that i bought in the past 6 months, so its fairly new, but its not a gaming laptop.
ive got 2 gigs of ram, 1.6 AMD Turion 64 x2, and ATI 256 onboard. i would think that it would run it alright but its pretty choppy at times, even with everything turned to low or off. ive got the newest vid card drivers and such. any ideas? im on the 14 day trail and i really want to keep playing but if it doesnt get better then i might have to think twice. please help

Laptops and onboard video cards will always be lagging a bit. You should be able to get it to a good playable state though.
The #1 recommendation I can make is that you find the "particles" slider and move it all the way down. Way down. No, farther than that. Seriously, even farther. Yeah, practically off.
That one quality in particular, people think "well this is an average system, I'll put it in the middle" but that kills them. And visually, 500 particles vs 100,000 isn't actually that big a difference.
To really get serious about smoothing out the "visual lag," I'd recommend starting in Safe mode and then scaling up from there. Starting at the minimums and moving up is much more encouraging than randomly guessing too high and moving down over and over.

That made a world of difference for me.
