I was at Best Buy and I saw a collectors set that included all of the first 5 expansions for only$29.99. That would be the way to go imo...then if ya get hooked...as I'm sure you will...then go buy the other 2.

I hope you get this package Kim, i think it comes with a month free as well... have fun...i've played one of my accounts with just these 5 expansions and haven't ran out of places to discover yet.

I would go for that package and I have a bunch of eq disks laying around..cant use them but thats another story

You get that first 30 days free to get hooked, go for it, that game needs to see some actual newbs again.

Definatly I agree with everyone else. If you buy anything other then the who shabbang you are gonna end up double buying the game anyways unless you absolutely loathe the game in the first 30, which I doubt

I don't recommend this game at its current state.

I was thinking about checking out EQ too, until new games come out. How many expansions are there?! If I bought this package with the 5 expansions, could I play, or would I need more?

To the naysayers, why shouldn't I play EQ?

Here are the exp's in release order

    Everquest
    Runes of Kunark
    Scars of velious
    Shadows of Luclin
    Planes of Power
    Legacy of Ykesha
    Lost Dungeons of Norrath
    Gates of Discord

To be honest, i have played EQ 3 years ago when SoL just got released and i loved it, incredible PC's that help whenever you needed it. (that was before the Bazaar was buildt).

I got a subscription half a year ago, i found out that the entire game was as corrupt as a game could get thanks to the bazaar, it took away everything EQ stood for in my eyes, players started to buy everything instead of questing and fighting for it, most older area's were deserted, a good part of the time when you asked for help you would get the finger so to speak. in short... i missed every feeling i had 3 years ago, i did play till a few months ago (i still have a few weeks left as of now) then i stopprd the subscription and the game ended at the attic.
Just like the real world, if people didn't know you they wouldn't talk to you just to say you had a nice weapon. ppl used to ask if they could check your inventory before checking it out. now its just click, they think crappy shit or nice stuff, dont say a word and run back from the dark hole they came from.

i really loved that game but now all it is is a great game turned to dust (my opinion as a forgotten and anchient player of a lost era).

But i think that newcomers would like it couse they didn't live at those day's. I am one of the people that long for the old day's and spit on the new ones.
they just mate too many zones for a too little group of players (compared to the space and quantity of the zones)

I hope EQ2 will give me that feeling again that i was looking for in that half year.

well, go for it. but beware, the laerning curve right at the start is rather steep... there is a new tutorial out now, which should help. on the other hand, after you you learned how to communicate with players, then simply ask nicely ingame. you will get help :) and if you are lucky, you will get some items for a better  start (don't count on it though...) image

The above poster isn't kidding about the steep learning curve. The tutorial is definitely a big help but I'm still a little confused about some things. However, alot of the veteran players are extremely helpful!

I personally don't care to much about continuing to play this one but that's my personal opinion. Maybe I'm just to anxious for EQ2..::::19::

By the way, if you do decide to play be careful in the "tree city" Kelethin. Myself and others have fallen to our deaths more than being slain by a mob::::15::

The price of Everquest:  Evolutions (original and first 5 expansions) is on sale for $18...saw it at amazon.com.  You don't need Lost Dungeons of Norrath until at least level 20 and Gates of Discord (on sale for $10) is a piece of crap from what I've heard and players are boycotting it, but for $10 you might want to go for it.
