When swg was released it was an unfinished and contentless mess which only drew the "hardcore" mmo crowd, and we all know how receptible they are to change.

The game has improved immensely since then and drawn a horde of new players, hence they are purging old and unfinished houses to create space. I think its a great service to their current playerbase.

Wow, my sarcasm meter just pegged off the chart and broke the needle. :)

When swg was released, it was an unfinished and contentless mess which offered crafters the unique ability to create the best gear in the game, as only the most basic equipment could be purchased from NPC's, and loot tables were very spartan.

After quite some time as a classless game where one could drop points in multiple professions but not max all of them out, Lucasarts decided it was too true to the original Star Wars trilogy and wasn't flashy and easy enough to go along with the new films, so they ordered SOE to change it.  They did so via the combat upgrade (which simplified combat to a few button mashes), and then the NGE which totally reworked the game's infrastructure, imposing classes and making the intentionally rare Jedi a starter class.

The game has improved immensely since then and drawn a small handful of new players.  They are purging old and unfinished houses to allow for server merges to bring the population of one or two servers back up to what they should be, since playing in a ghost server isn't really worth $15 a month.

Another poster in la la land!

The current game does not even come close to the depth prior to NGE, do not fool yourself.  SWG is a shell of what it was, even today.

There was a lot of skill in the old creature handler.  This new class is nothing of the kind.

A game that hands you everything on a platter is no challenge at all and will not keep people playing.  That is exactly what SWG is now.

I still stick by my statement that this will effectively delete 95% of the housing.  I guess they intend server merges, ok by me, there is no one playing on Starsider anymore.

Sadly, I doubt more then 40% of the current houses are going to blow up, at least on Chilastra.

As for BM, have you actually tried it beyond simply looking at a few things?  This system is far more indepth then what CH was.

Yeah that's why I didn't go past the try out 14 days, I stopped after just a week, as it was rare to see anyone around, felt like a sigle player game most of the time and going though the empty player towns was sad, if SWG had alot of players it would be a good game.

Now how in the world can you make such an absurd statement, oh you did not really play a CH pre NGE.

Well let me tell you, it was a challenge to get good pets, you had to actually hunt for them.  This class they have added is a silly facimile of what a pre NGE CH was.  Sure I tried the BM, that is why i resuscribed.

Just so typical of SWG these days, they simplify everything so that even a moron could do it.  Where is the challenge in that?

A CH pre NGE was a challenging profession, the new one is jujst a glossed over joke.

I still can't believe you made that ridiculous statement.

IMHO, Now would be the perfect time for them to just pack up everyone's house and go ahead and do the server merge that everyone has expected for a long time anyway. To few players around in all of the worlds, combined it actually might look populated again as it once was. At the very least they can do like they did for the Matrix and just cut it down to 3 servers. 1 for the Europeans, Chimera would be my selection since its most populated for them. 1 for east coasters, Bloodfin perhaps and 1 for west coasters like Bria.

I played CH pre-nge and pre-cu, I know what it was like ;)

Just like then, you can go out and grab any old creature you come across and make it.  But like back then there are also the rather rare creatures that will take alot of time and dedication to obtain.  In this system, they're obtained through mutations.  I also would not call the system simplified either.  There are at least 9 steps you need to go through before you even have an egg to hatch, with each step being very dependant on the quality of goods used.  There are 26 different craftable products used in the process of making a creature and for the crafters, each of these items has multiple lines of experimentation.

And then there's the actual raring part.  Unlike pre-nge/cu, pets have personalities and moods.  You need to adapt to their personality and bring up their mood to keep them performing at their best.  They'll develop likes and dislikes for different activites, different foods, different planets, different tricks, etc.  There's much more to it then simply hatching an egg and voila, you have a creature.

i was ch as well pre cu and it was nowhere near as complex as this new BM system. dont even try it. big deal ya had to go out and find the critter ya wanted and then it was a 50/50 chance to actually tame the thing. i remember people having bio pets more than actual tamed ones.
