There are of course, some sub-cultures that thrive inside Second Life.0 The biggest subculture that spreads across many "Sims" in Second Life is Gorean master/slave sex role play. The combination of outdated graphics and build programs, the predominance of sex oriented chat over MMO/FPS gameplay and the influx of companies coming in looking just to market to people is not the recipe for a successful Metaverse style, visionary future, its just rehashed aol/palace chat.
and here i thought money made the world go round ....
I played SL maybe 7-8 months ago. I dont think it has changed much but at the time the game was very populated, Population causes Lag, No matter what game you are in. Maybe the crashes had to do with where you were at certain times. I used to go to clubs alot and was a VIP at a place my friend held, I actually was about to start to work for him for a decent ammount of L$ but I stopped playing around that time for WoW.
Linden has a great idea on what they do. It is easy to make real life money off this game if you can equivlent enough L$ income per month to make over 9.95(I think that is around 2800L$) Which if you put alot of your spare time into then its not that hard.
I knew about 3 people fairley well that made 450,000L$ a month, One was like some sex guru(weird but met him at a club) another owned like a casino(was good friends with his IG wife or w/e) and a girl I met was friends with this guy who built and sold houses. They make it sooo easy to learn to make Items, just find a non laggy spot and open up the build tool. The only hard part is at the beginning, you might need to spend some money to start out(real life money) but you can make it big with the right contact base. I had just started getting into the building tool when i quit.
/edit- Not once did I have a crash or a bug that stopped me from playing, sure at times there was lagg to hell but if I stayed in one area long enough the lag would go away. The amounts at the top might actually be lower now that I think about it. Every day I saw people at my friends shop, if he is selling like 10-15 items a good day, Items usually cost anywere from 300-750 L$ (10 items a day sold for 300[OK day]) is like 1,116,000 L$ a year. which is like 11,014.20US$ a year. (15 a day at 750 would be 41,640.75US$ a year.)
This was one guy average person, had a job and was probibly making 15grand a year on the side from a video game. Location, Contact Base, Skill and Communication all have a great deal good of affect on your outcome in this game.

I'll have to make sure my "master" reads this....
Love Conquers All
I find this to be fairly untrue.

Well I read all the hoopla and decided to download it and try it out.
After a week, I was so bored.
I just can't imagine what anyone sees in this game. It has to be the most lame virtual world in existance.
Some people like it, some people hate it!
