My horizons review

First off i think horizons is a decent mmorpg.  Ive been playing it for about a week & 1/2, almost all the time.  I dont have a high level character yet, but Ive got the basics.

The graphics aren't all that great.  The environment looks pretty good but most of the character models are less than stellar. Some of the spell effects are nice but a lot of the animation seems a little choppy. The sound is very good and varies throughout the different areas in istaria.  But the game could definently use more sounds during fighting to make it more interesing. There currently NO PvP image . The withered aegis can be found patrolling a camping spot and can overrun a player town. (If its been added yet)  Me and a friend were fighting zombies and towards the end of our kill he yells "RUN!" I look back and he was quickly stampeded by several cleric, scout, warrior and mage dwarf skeletons image.  This is one feature that makes this game pretty fun.

The combat system is one of horizons weakest points in my opinion.  You select a monster, click attack, watch your character run toward the target and wait for the timers on your special's to run out.  If you fight in first person you can get sick because the screen sometimes jerks image. Spells are used just like the special moves and there is no casting times.  There is also no mana.  You just have to wait for the recast. A rock paper scissors system is used for stances.

Crafting is much like star wars galaxies but you have to get all the resources yourself.  This involves running around trying to spot trees or mineral deposits which can take longer when there are other players collecting. Creating items is easy as long you have the formulae.  You then post you items on the market.  This is very similar to the Bazaar in Star Wars Galaxies.

There are plenty of races.  There isn't much difference between them besides stats and a few special abilities.  The customization is ok but many of the faces and hair styles looks similar.  You can also decide how fat and muscalur you character is.  The only exception to this is the dragon.  The dragon is completely different than the biped races and has its own adventuring and crafting class.  As you reach different levels your dragons grows and eventually becomes very large.  Later on you can fly.  You can hoard treasure such as valuable items and currency which can used like mana to fuel powerful attacks.

This game is pretty fun and will probably keep me occupied until WoW or Everquest II.  This game can be hard to get into because of the ''no PvP'' and long loading times.  The biggest problem this game has is the server populations.  During peak hours all the servers have a very light population . In time most of the bugs will probably be fixed. None of them hindered my gaming. If there were more people this game could probably have one of the best communities around. I bought it for 29.95 at gamestop in the mall but you can find it cheaper online image. One thing about this game is it will most likely die out by the time Everquest II is released.

Despite its flaws i can recommend Horizons for someone waiting to have a good time while they're waiting for WoW or Everquest II.

I wholeheartedly agree with Kilabane.  The game is playable, and there's some good people out there.  I'm not too sure on the choppy combat in first person, but I tend to play in third person so I can see what stance the mob switches to.  I haven't had any trouble with my graphics lagging at all, but that may be due to the differences in our PC's.  But, all in all, it's not as horrible as some people make it out to be.

You mention that there currently is no PvP, but do you see a way for them to implement it in the future?

From the cooperative basis that they've established for the game, lack of guild ownership for player towns, instant teleports across the world, and the extended times spent outside of the cities collecting resources for crafting, I simply don't see an effective way to have PvP. A gankfest wouldn't be fitting, and the racial wars from the original design of the game no longer fits with the player towns. There are no plans, at least that I've heard, to add in new areas to facilitate PvP. I suppose a /duel option might be a possibility, but even then, with the lack of customization within a class, that doesn't seem that interesting.

I have been playing Horizons for about seven months now and the biggest problem I see with the game is lack of content at higher levels. I did have fun playing this game at lower levels, but at about level 60 the game starts to get boring. I have seen them adding new monsters and quests, but again they seem to be for lower level characters. I rarely log into horizons anymore. I do see new people coming into the game all the time, but it is rare to see a high level character logged in anymore. If you are looking for a game to keep you busy for a couple of months until a better game comes along then horizons might be for you. If you are looking for a game that will keep you occupied for along time, then I would avoid this game.

Horizons lack content for the higher levels. Also the monster models are very few and no real dungeons.

Now horizons is build like a PvE game which concentrates all its efforts into that.Pretty much like EQ does.

But unlike EQ it has much less content,no real adrenaline pump or intresting encounters. The quest while not as lame as many mmorp i played is way below par of EQ.

The good point it has is crafting.I dunno if its been implemented yet but crafting is suppose to have a direct impact on the whole game ie bridge building.

As of when i left i would say its an ok mmorpg but thats about as high as i can put it.
