Maybe, but I thought AC had FFA open PVP with full looting (or significant looting) of kills. I think AOC restricts its PVP to a specific region or area...which wouldn't make it very much like AC at all. (except perhaps in combat style?)

the aoc devs have said a couple times that they want to have a ffa pvp server, and that if there isn't one at launch there will be soon after. aoc will also have player cities/siege pvp that ac for the most part lacked.
i don't think aoc will be able to be as badass as ac was, but i'm hoping it will be a good game nonetheless.
they want free for all PVP, in at least one server
I dont think anything will compare to AC combat though. It's too hard to play ranged characters in PVP in that (too hard = requires more effort than watching TV while mashing 3 2 1 3 2 1 3 2 1.....)
AC is simply the best MMORPG to date. If more people played it at the start when it was populated and full of adventure, today's MMORPG's would be different and more like AC.

I think AC was and is still a very good MMORPG and was easily the best of its day. It has lost some of the graphic luster it once had but as far as the combat goes and comparing it to AoC, i think there will be many differences.
There is some interesting things they discuss and say will be implemented in the game. I would comment more but this is the AC forum, .. AC was a great game!

AoC is not even close to resembling AC for pvp or anything else. It is a class based game, not a skill based one. It is also will have a much small land mass than even AC had at release.
Somehow I don't think Conan's combat will be limited to low, medium, high, short or long attack, which type of arrow, weapon, or magic to use against a certain type of creature. These gameplay combat vids I've seen involve fancy footwork and a good deal of tactics and strategy. The first video I saw appeared to my naked eye as a slash-and-stabfest, whack a mole, enemy is dead. It turned out to be an ingame cinematographic cutscene. So I was thrilled to know that we'll be using more tactics, placement, terrain, combination moves much like the twitch-fighting games.
I loved AC, played it for 3 years and nothing has ever come close. Maybe Conan will be a nice surprise. But you guys still playing AC1, no offense, but it's time to get a video card and upgrade at least to Windows 98! Sorry, I had to say it!
everyone just quit the nonsense. AC has the best pvp in a mmorpg. AOC will be good but it wont be better. There no reason to compare, your wasting your time. AC lacks graphics compared to other games. Big deal, the graphics are still decent and better then cartoonish games like worlds of warcraft and others. Play AC, or try to make yourself feel better about new games coming, which wont be good after all. End of story.
AoC doesn't look real. The graphics in screenshots look decent, but look at any leaked video both old and recent, and it looks terrible. The combat animations SUCK (I swear I saw the same slashing animation through an entire fight). Which is fine for older games where that was all the engines were capable of at the time. But now, I expect a lot more from my MMO.
AOC will have at least one FFA server at launch. They probably will add guards to protect kiddies in the outposts though.
As for item looting, I doubt it. WOW has nubified the entire genre and noobs can't handle death penalties, even if it's on ruleset they never plan on playing on - they will still cry. Blood money FTL.
As for the attack style, it seems alright, but it's very close to becoming a key mashing fest ie 123qwe.
Meh, I'm hoping for the best but it will have to be something REALLY special to beat Darktide.

No, they are strongly looking into item looting because there are a ton of players asking for it on the official forums. On the FFA servers the only safespots will be the towns and that is it.

IMO there shouldn't be ANY safespots except for guild cities and only then by players or player hired guards.
And yes, there definately should be item looting...but most of the replies to threads asking for item looting are from carebears who don't want it, (even though they won't even be playing on the FFA server). Let's hope the dev's can see through this. I guess time will tell, -fingers crossed-

Yeah there are many carebares destroying threads, but right from one of the devs is that they are strongly looking into making some servers with loot rules. I can hop, right?

Anyone else think Age of Conan looks bad? The graphics I mean. It has that ugly EQ2 and Vanguard look to it. I can't stand the way those games look.
I agree with you Jaguar. The graphics look really crappy and look exactly like Vanguard's graphics do. This game is gonna go down the drain, I can't wait for Warhammer but the only thing I hate is that it uses cartoon graphics mixed with real time looking graphics that don't look nice lol.
mmorpg's flop faster then mcdonalds cheese burgers these days.
