We already know that Mordred is where the real skill was.
Playing on Isuelt during the height of the 8v8 era was like being in east berlin in the 80's after dark. You would be hard pressed to find a team less well known than Bedlam, and the other 2 realms had hotshots as well because the comptetition was so rough it made people better.
Kay server seemed to have very dominant teams after NF and server clusters. But Mord was a seperate ballgame that was chaotic pvp, 8v8 on normal servers though was a blend of rvr and pvp. Anyone else notice the "honor code" that mordred started carried over to some extent to the normal servers, but didnt carry over at all to other games?
When I see a group of 6 people zerg and kill 1 person insted of looking for 6-10 people to attack it kills me. when I see a nice 2v2 fight going on and then someone "ajing" the fight that makes me cry more. when people lose a fair fight, equal levels and equal odds, but call for HELP and come back with greater numbers insted of handeling the business themselves... that makes me just miss DAoC and want to hang myself
Hmmm seems the spread is falling as I expected in terms of which side is most popular with Destruction as the clear frontrunner. Wonder if the elves could tip the balance one way or another.
Originally posted by kraiden The following are all opinions of mine leading for me to take an educated guess....
Most of the elite groups from DAoC will play this game Alot of the elite groups from daoc where midgard. Elite groups like to be the "underdog" role so they can play spoiler and spurn zergs and overpopulation.
so I am going to go out on a limb and say whatever realm it looks like most people will play.... is going to be side that will get beat up first. I really get the feeling all of the major guilds and players are just going to go for an underdog role again and that will lead to too much talent on 1 side, especialy way too much talent for a skill based game.
right now my guild claims the same thing "we want to be the underdog, I hate elves! I hate good!!" and other various remarks, so they really want to go for chaos and greenskins. If we find that more people are gong chaos though, we wouldnt cry too hard about rolling warves and Humans. The ironbreaker is by far the most powerful class at the moment, if things stay the same I can see people mass rolling Order just to play the best class.
It's "were", not "where". I only mention this because it seems like every post of yours that I read makes this mistake. I figure you really don't know the difference at this point. Since I'm here, it's "a lot", not "alot". You can allot something, but not a lot.
Yeah, yeah, now flame me for being the grammar patrol.
ok I'm not going to give my opinion on which is going to be overpopulated since this game seems different enough from other games that it could easily sway either way. i am, however going to address this discussion about overpopulation effecting RvR.
First, everyone seems to be afraid of the scenarios being like the WOW battleground, boring and monotonous. How i understand it, WAR will have a scenario for each tier of each racial pairing. thats 4x4=16 scenarios. i'm not completely sure on this but i think that is right. 16 scenarios for WAR vs. WOW's 4 battlegrounds is a very large difference, not only because there will be 4 times as many, but because they will need a different objective for each, and they will be composed of different kinds of player (ie. the dwarf vs. greenskins scenario will have more dwarf and greenskin players than the chaos vs. human)
also, the scenarios count for more points because they eliminate any overpopulation. if you enjoy open world PvP then you should go out and participate in World PvP, you will encounter people with like minds and i bet you that even with the scenarios, many people will be out on the field to wage war against you, and these will be the people that can really test your skills. in short, the elitists will be doing world PvP and the rest of us who prefer a fair fight will stick with the scenarios.
As diehard troll fan, I will have to go with Destruction on this one. In all reality however, when it comes to numbers the "Good" side always seems to get more people. This doesn't mean that the "Evil" side is at a handicap. It's been my expirience, that "Good" generally gets a good mix of all expirience types of players, whereas "Evil" tends to be more of an elitists group. DAoC, WoW, and EQ all were this way, and WAR hopefully won't be any different. "Good may get the numbers, but Evil always wins" as my DAoC guild says. Which is kind of backwards to most fantasy books or movies. Good always seems to be outnumbered and what not, but the Good side has thier uber "heros". I wish a fantasy movie would come out with the evil side winning
nice hehe... to be honest i think it will be order just like Alliance on WoW
the only reason why the alliance was dominant in WoW was cus of all the kiddies. i expect many many many experianced (both in games and life) players flocking to mostly destruction. depending on how many kiddies play this game will really swing the balance in the favour of the elves (methinks)
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds -Solid non level based game -Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
I played wow up untill recently and played on 2 servers during my time there.
1st was a pve server (aszune) and horde where really outnumbered about 2-1 (it actually at one point about 4-1) and what was great about this was instant entries into BGs (battlegrounds) for the horde and hour waits for the allies. regarding better at pvp the horde where the best untill the 60 bracket. (brackets in the later stages (before TBC) went: 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60s only) so horde owned in them all due to shammies ghost wolf form at 20 helping them cap faster (I think in a pre patch build up to tbc they game druids faster outdoor cat movement with balanced it alot). At 60 the allies took over do to there being alot of honor farmers who were all pve geared up, do to it being easier for them to get raiding guilds.
2nd was a pvp server (the Defias Brotherhood (YEAH IT WAS A RP SERVER!!! I was dragged!) and the balance was alot better on this server due to the server being realease later (aszune was a day 1er server) but still horde owned pvp, thier classed have the better pvp racial skills.
Classes: the hardest classes to fight against where proberly locks and rogues (which thankfully war dont have stealth)
cruel how someone can walk up behind you stun you and kill you by stunning again and again so you cant fight back (I think a wise person once said that Blizzard plays rogues)
and 3 insta cast Damage over times spells a pet and unequal health means a locks got you even if you kill him :P
My wife played lock, and lets not be toooo cruel on this but: she sucked at pvp, but boy she out dps'd and outkilled my hunter
so I can really see WAR going the same way in Order/Destro like WoW did with Alliance/Horde, I know many a person who makes female classes cos they would rather look at a sexy butt then a hairy tail. so its kinda says that alot of the younger less hardcore players will pick classes that are easier on the eye, they have more in common with (theyve all seen LotR's countless time) so the dwarfs humans and elves will all be popular,.
then you have people like me, who are a little sick and twisted and like killing nice people :P
Well, i have always heard chosing of sides in games explained like
girls wanna play the cute ones , and those who want to play with girls follow. Then there is the kids , they can't play the baddies because mommy will not let them.
I wonder more where the most interesting battles will be!

I wrote a post saying the same thing as was flamed to no end and told I was wrong. But still many people I speak to continue to say the same thing about good and evil in games. Evil and gritty seems to attract the elitist ever since UO and DaoC. while the pretty and good realms have a higher population and thus never get a chance to play under duress and get better. when constantly fighting 2 vs 3 you tend to get better at playing your class. this leads you to be better when evenly matched. kind of like lifting weights makes you stronger than lifting a cheeseburger, because your working harder.
Dispite everyone saying "im playing chaos" I highly dobut that destruction will be least populated, as most casual fans and people who read the books and people from outside the game will roll "good" side. didnt everyone say "i wanna be an undead" before wow came out, yet humans and gnomes are the 2 most played and alliance outnumber horde?
I plan on playing a dwarven runepriest as it was the most support looking of the healing clases so far. But if I see too many people in Order I will uproot my guild and take them to a Dark Elf Sorcoress.
(sorcoress, Corsair, Witch elf is what I think the classes will be) I do think darkelves will have a pet class (because it fits the lore) but I think game balance would not put another pet class in destruction to have 2 and only 1 (high elves will have one)
If you've ready the actual back story of WAR (forgive my lore geekyness) Order is the real underdogs in the game. The Empire's army is pretty much in the toilet due to a plague thats spreading everywhere. The Dwarves lost Karak Eight peaks and are still trying to get over the shock while the Greenskins are continuing to pound the Dwarf's small defenses, and the High Elves are in a siege by the Dark Elves who are hell bent on killing/enslaving them once and for all. Now that we have that out of the way we have to look at the people who are playing the game. Don't forget that this is a Warhammer game so you're going to have thousands of players who have never touched DAoC that are looking forward to this game (I've never played DAoC so don't flame me for this opinion) so don't think its just for Mythic fans. And IMO more of the hardcore gamers will probably will flock to AoC for their version of PvP, which kinda reminds me of Guild Wars, their new "revolutionary game play", and graphics. Plus all characters in this game will look ugly as sin. Elves included. If you've played the tabletop version no races look "cute" that'll be a major turnoff for the younger players. Also the amount of skulls and other "questionable" features of Warhammer will hopefully make most parents think twice about buying this game for their 12 year olds. Jack Thompson will be hitting this game for thinking the amount of demonic worship for Chaos will make kids into Satan worshiping murderers. This isn't a game where you shoot rainbows at grumpy bears this is Warhammer.
