Last year i successfully predicted the fall of vanguard, every one was like GTFO and STFU and they told me i was wrong and how much of a god game VG would be. Welp looks like i was right, another thing i successfully predicted was that LOTRO would be one of the best mmos released after WoW, while not killing or taking WoWs highseat it would be a GOOD mmorpg.

so far i was 2-0

This year i have more predictions for our new games comming out! POTBS will be a good game for the most part, while not having the high pop of LOTRO and no where near as WoWs it will be a very nice sandbox mmo that will make some old school SWGers pretty content. AoC will be the biggest shocker as it will fail, not fail as much as vanguard but the reason AoC will fail is because of bugs and it will be very computer intensive, you will definatly need a next gen to play this game. The bugs will be fixed, people will play AoC there will be huge debates on how much AoC rocks and how much it sucks on this forum.

Blizzard will announce its new xpac for WoW, this time bringing some nice features, housing, three new classes, DPS,Healer,Tank, no new races, this mmo will be centered upon the emerald dream. It will be a better xpac then the burning crusade but for the most part it will still feel like the same ol WoW which will get tedious after a while.

Warhammer will be the game that will knock WoW off its highseat, while not killing WoW it will hurt it badly, warhammer will do to WoW what WoW did to EQ2.The game will be immensely fun, a true PVPers game, though eventually WAR will become tedious eventually.

Vanguard will make a second comming, it will do what EQ2 did, it will finnally be playable, added content, so much to do and things to see. Sadly the preformance wont change much, no one cares about VG any more, while gaining a boost in subs it will still feel vastly empty.

A classic mmorpg will get a server were players can go back to their favorite time period of the game and many mmoers will rejoice and give it a nice pop boost again but nothing jurrasic.

So there ya go, my predictions for 07-08

I wouldn't say you were correct  with LOTR. Lots of people find it too simplistic. It has maybe 200,000 subscribers. I wouldn't call it a great success. And from What I hear, there is no endgame. So subs may drop a lot lower in the future.

AOC and WAR certainly seems to be next big hits.

I think you may be right about WoW although I think it's more likely to include siege weapons than houses.

LotrO is not a sandbox game...that kinda annoyed me when you said that, cause it's not, it's simple as someone else said, simple but good.

And i don't think AoC will fail, infact I think it will be the next big hit and WAR will fail cause it's set in an enviroment too similiar to WoW.

SWG, Eve, Planetside 2, EQN, Star Citizen

I didnt  say LOTRO was the best game ever released but it is one of the better games released after WoW.

if SOE can't make EQ2 to have a second comming why would vanguard get one?

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

    What of Tabula Rasa then?
  • HorusraHorusra Member EpicPosts: 4,411
WAR will probably not be any more of a success or failure than Dark Age of Camelot was/is.  WoW will not be "knocked off" till another easy to play, fun, CASUAL, game is introduced.
  • sctt888sctt888 Member Posts: 128
Tabula rasa will be a very fun game, something original, its only shortcomming will be consentual PVP and it will require a next gen computer, wont have a high population, wont have a low population tabula rasa will be just there.

he didn't say LOTR was a sandbox game, he stated the PotBS was one.. -ish.

anyway, nothing i saw in the op seemed too far off of being possible.

Awesome post, I'll keep an eye on it. I agree that AoC is overhyped, and mostly ahead of it's time. I think that by the time it gains any real following there will be better stuff out there. I think you went a little too in depth on the WoW predictions. Expansion most likely, but new classes are highly unlikely. Housing would be a step int he right direction. WAR won't kill WoW, but it will leave a dent because it's a game like WoW that PvP players will be in to.

Im thinking PotBS will be alright. Im expecting a polished version of the asian cashshop Voyage Century.

WoW will remain on its pedestal until an intelligent marketing team succeeds in Asia and Europe as Blizz did with WoW.

WAR will please WoW fans but end up with people getting tierd after a few monthes due to WoW aftertaste.

AoC will be a very fun, sadly shallow MMO, and succeed in providing fun gameplay thats not as run of the mill as other MMOs.

Im not too exited about any of these, personaly. Im still waiting for a MMO that uses the Pre-NGE SWG style skill system and provides immence freedom. I can only pray for a SWG2 in my lifetime returning to the old skill system, but im not gonna sit around and cry over NGE.

Thats my guess at 07. Lets hope 2008 is brigther!

    Playing: EVE, WAR, Cybernations lol

Someone on these boards posted an interesting theory that the millions of WoW players are not part of the normal MMO player pool. The pool of players involved in the mmo community is less than the total players in WoW. This is because WoW players are not mmo players they are Blizzard players. The will not leave WoW for another mmo because they have no idea what that even means. It's almost pointless to compare WoW to other MMOs for this reason.

That said a successful mmo is probably 250K subscribers by most standards. 500k would be really good. WoW is in its own market and own world.

    As to the future:

SOE wouldn't buy Sigil/VG if they didn't think there was money to be made in it. So I would guess they will fix the game up as best they can and then start it on the path toward adventure packs and other stupid micro transactions like EQ2. They said in the release they are going to have a 50 person team working on it. So I would expect expansions and everything else but only after the huge bugs in the game are fixed. I think the player base is not going to ever climb from where it's at. People on the all access plan for SOE might try it but it's never going to be a big player in the market.

LOTRO is a success in my opinion but it's not a great game; it's a good game that serves mainly as a hold over until WAR and AoC for a lot of people. People will ultimately get bored and wander off; I would say the pop will problem shrink and grow based on content releases until they establish some kind of real end game. The game certainly hasn't upset WoW with millions of subscribers that some people were screaming.

AoC looks really good and really different. It is being hyped to hell and back which means that it will not live up to the expectations.

I think it will ultimately be a success, compared to normal MMOs (not WoW). However with any mmo that breaks a lot of the tried and true mmo trends it will probably be a buggy and slow process. FunCom isn't some dumb company though, they at least have AO under their belts, I don't think they will be in as much of a mess as Sigil.

WAR is in the same position as AoC, lots of people are waiting for it and it has some new and different ideas for pvp. DaOC was a good game and Mythic learned a ton about what they should and should try to force on a pvp oriented player base. I'm guessing they won't screw that up again. I think WAR will do really well at first, probably with a large surge or players. Many WoW pvpers will leave for WAR. I think WAR has the ability to be the most successful pvp focused MMO and it probably will.

I predict EVE will still stuck and there will be more dev drama because they appear to be largely unethical and unprofessional in how they run their game.

    This post is 95% BS.

That theory about WoW players is so wrong, of course out of the population there would be people new to the genre but eventually they would know what a mmorpg is and look for other ones like it. WoW is a preference WoW is a good game, people love it. For instance before the release Everquest 2 was way more anticipated then WoW.

where do i find the information about the next expansion for WoW im a big fan and never heard of this information being released so please where did you hear it.

Runescape is in it's own world too. Over 80% of the f2pers on RS probably don't even know what an MMO is. And to add to that, RS is no longer the great game it used to be. The community has been overrun by little 8 year olds who spoil the community. The p2p worlds aren't nearly as bad, but it's not necessarily great either. Disregarding all that, RS has over 1 million subs. RS will just stay where it is. It's in it's own market, and has it's own audience. To tell the truth, RS is where I got my start in MMOs, back when the community was great and everything about it rocked.

I don't agree with either of you. While I agree that the majority of WoW players don't fit in the MMORPG pool of players, I don't think they are Blizzard fans (since most Blizzard fans are players themselves) as much as they are bandwagon fans.  I think alot of them will come looking for a new game after WoW, but most will probably never be heard from again.

I think a game can match the success of WoW and it doesn't have to be revolutionary or that good. Everything needs to work out just right.

I predict Ragnarok Online 2.  Its getting released this year too.  June 20th in Korea; December for like 10 other markets.  #1 most anticipated game in China, Japan, and the Philippines.  Its numbers can potentially exceed WoW.  However, there will probably be only 20k US subscribers; but in its other markets...

Good post. I have a few issues, but don't we all?

SWG players are not going to flock to PoTBS. A sandbox is a sandbox, but a sci-fi sandbox is another issue. If we were going to flock to anything it would have been EvE, Ryzom, or SL. POTBS doesn't hold much that would attract my former guildies.

WoW will likely remain WoW regardless of what comes out in the next year. WoW appeals to all sorts of gamers, not limited to only those who are into MMORPGs. WoW has raids, capture the flag, team deathmatch, and many other minigame features that simply cannot be found in other mmo games. I am not boasting wow here. I only played it for a month and just couldn't wrap my funny bone around it, but the game does have a great deal to offer all sorts of gamers that won't be found in 99% of the games out there.

EQ 2 will continue to be a success amongst the mmo crowd, while largely ignored by everything else. SOE has made a well polished and playable game, they just failed to appeal to an unknown and untapped mass.

LOTR will do well. They will release more content this Summer on a platform that is already quite polished and stable. I wish them luck

Vanguard? This game got far more hype than DnL but seems to have failed to deliver much more. SOE taking over the game was a mercy killing. We'll see if they can bother to make it much more than MxO is today (not slamming mxo, it is just mostly in a state of ignore). I still can't wrap my funny bone around why they paid the piper to buy it.

AoC. We'll see. I hope it isn't a bad game, but I wish the same for Gods, both look great, but the jury is out.

WAR. I can't be really excited about this one. Hey mom, look! An IP!!!? Sorry, I know a number of fans out there are hoping this is te second coming of azeroth with sprinkles, it just hasn't impressed me thus far, and the hype is out of control.

TR. I hope for the best, but the things they dropped from the development plan make it look like iittle more than a FPS without the guts and glory of PS and WWII online. I want a playable Scifi game as much as anyone out there, but I am looking at this as a 3rd month purchase.

In a perfect world my SWG guild would pack up and move to Ryzom. My prediction? Utter Chaos .

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.
