I preordered Vanguard when it came out, played for awhile then quit...should I even bother going back now or has it become vaporware?
I heard the orig devs all got fired and its run by Sony 100%
even though the team promised that would never happen in their lifetimes...

As for vapourware? Hard to say. It's early days, and SOE have yet to make it clear what they're doing with the game. They have mentioned optimisation and bug fixes as being high up on their priority.

OP: I think you got your definition for vaporware a bit off
–noun
Technically it did get produced and even launched. Just not very well.

You are correct, all the sigil employees got laid off BUT a large portion of them were re-hired by SOE to work out of SOE's new office (sigils old office).

Vaporware refers to a game that has not and probably will not come into being. It is vapor, as in gaseous and non-physical, It won`t and doesn`t materialize.
So no, Vanguard isn`t and won`t be Vaporware.

I think VSOH will become much like The Matrix Online: it will survive but it will be marginalized in the MMORPG world with few subscribers and few updates.
yep, I agree. it seems they are using same tactic. minimal development, mostly bug fixes with 0 new content.
Keep the costs as low as possible so to make a profit of current subs and they have the game ready and shining for a future when A) average computers can actually run it and they decide to re-invest in it.

In the sense of it not being a completed or worthwhile product, was it ever anything else?

This game is over. Every vanboy needs to come here and read the truth about the precious brad mctool project (which rock are they all hiding under anyway...lol). This game was over before it started. I, among everyone else, didn't want to admit it. It sucks when you have high hopes for something and you see the massive potential and then watch it fail horribly. Oh well, don't worry too much I am sure mctool is laughing all the way to the bank and I am sure we will never see from him again. Hopefully the gaming companies got the messagae about putting an unfinished product out on the market with a ton of false promises in it. Maybe, just maybe, this will help the future of the mmorpg world and all new games coming out and we will see more polished products with all promises included.
So now my opinion is over...lol. Is the game vaporware?....yes and no. If you go by the slang definition no, but I guess it could be viewed that way. I think the word you are looking for is "steaming pile of dung" (i checked the dictionary...it IS actually one word).
mctool....I never liked that guy.
...
This is where I draw the line: __________________.
Dictionary
Noun
Steamingpileofdungware - Any mmorpg or anything hard/software related that has Brad Mctool's (or Mcquaid's, depending upon spelling and geographic location) name on it.
See it's all there in black and white. I wouldn't just make this up.

If reports are to be believed, SOE actually retained about 50 Sigil employees (about the same as EQ 2 team I've read) which is far more than they need to do bug fixes. I think it implies we'll see some new development and perhaps they will follow EQ2's steady road to recovery.ATM there really no other games like VG out there (no, AOC and WAR are a lot different) and there is a player base that wants a large world game like VG, and would play it if only the darn game would perform properly and flesh out its content a bit more.

Although I didn't read your whole post...i only got through about 2 lines...lol. I did see the line "...if only the darn game would perform properly and flesh out its content a bit more".....Isn't that like saying "man this car is sooooo fast. Now all it needs is an engine." ??
lol...don't get to riled up about this...just a question.
Anyway, crapware... maybe. It had a rough launch and poor leadership but I think it's turning around.
Vaporware? Nope. It made it to retail. It doesn't matter the condition. If you can buy it, it's not vaporware.
To answer the vaperware question..although it is a misuse of the term...this game is not entirely too fun to play right now, my advice would be to give it a few months of time (or a year even) to let SOE make some fixes, good or bad.

I agree that Vanguard may become like Matrix Online. Released, but not likely to ever have a big following.
Why kick the fans of Vanguard while they are down? That's just not nice. Vanguard had good intentions, and had some good possibilities. It just failed to follow through in the implementation, but making an MMORPG isn't easy.
Hey glad you enjoy it, but recommending that POS to others is just disrespectful.
It is another Matrix. They will make some changes, you can bet SOE will dumb downt the game significantly. It will attract a small niche crowd.
Perhaps SOE can resurrect it some, but to most of us it is a dead game and will always be so.
I like that name McTool for Brad, certainly fits him like a glove.
