This makes absolutely no sense.  And wtf is the Bush administration getting involved in this for?

For everyone who says that the federal government has not grown too large, this is proof positive that it's busting at the seams.

U.S. government fights to keep meatpackers from testing all slaughtered cattle for mad cow

WASHINGTON: The Bush administration said Tuesday it will fight to keep meatpackers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease.

The Agriculture Department tests fewer than 1 percent of slaughtered cows for the disease, which can be fatal to humans who eat tainted beef. A beef producer in the western state of Kansas, Creekstone Farms Premium Beef, wants to test all of its cows.

Larger meat companies feared that move because, if Creekstone should test its meat and advertised it as safe, they might have to perform the expensive tests on their larger herds as well.

The Agriculture Department regulates the test and argued that widespread testing could lead to a false positive that would harm the meat industry.

A federal judge ruled in March that such tests must be allowed. U.S. District Judge James Robertson noted that Creekstone sought to use the same test the government relies on and said the government didn't have the authority to restrict it. - A federal judge ruled in March that such tests must be allowed. The ruling was scheduled to take effect June 1, but the Agriculture Department said Tuesday it would appeal, effectively delaying the testing until the court challenge has played out.

Mad cow disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy, is linked to more than 150 human deaths worldwide, mostly in Britain.

Three cases of mad cow disease have been found in the United States. The first, in December 2003 in Washington state, was in a cow that had been imported from Canada. The second, in 2005, was in a cow born in Texas. The third was confirmed last year in an Alabama cow.

Wow, and who says the special interests don't control government agenda.... Our policymakers have absolutely no reason to get involved in this. If a company wants to test THEIR meat, and spend MORE of THEIR money doing it, what practical reason in hell is there to stop them? To protect larger meat companies' profits? Since when has that been the primary purpose of our government?

I'm disappointed to say the least, and beginning to hope Ron Paul gets a shot at this election. Maybe staying here at home, trimming some governmental fat, and looking more closely at the constitution is the best thing for this country right now.

If our nation's food supply wasn't already packed with high fructose corn syrup, red dye number 5, hormones, additives, and preservatives it would be a prime target for terrorists due to less than stellar security and inspection.

Testing all beef products interferes with Texas ranchers rights to make a profit. Testing of drugs by the FDA interferes with pharmaceutical company's rights to make a profit. Peace on Earth interferes with the oil company's right to make a profit. Come on folks, what is more important, your health and safety, or the profits of America's great corporations.

Next you'll be whining that American boys shouldn't be dying for Exxon Mobil and Dutch Royal Shell.

Back off on Bush, the man is the greatest President this country will ever have, he speaks with God's voice.

    Why do you hate America?

Does this make sense to anyone?

Is there even a Republican Bush lover who finds logic in this?  C'mon, I know there are some people out there in that 22% of America that think Bush is Jesus.  Explain yourself.

IF you hate Bush, you hate America. If you hate America, you hate God.

Therefore Bush > America > God

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Totally idiotic, couldn't get worse. What the government does to see to it that none of the bigger companies have to do something that makes them unable to sell as much as possible for the lowest cost possible. It's pretty strange how far a world can go, when money is prior human health.

Yeah, and have you noticed that the ones who do support Bush aren't even here to defend him on this one.

Defend an incompetent idiot that wants to keep troupes in Iraq to see to it that they get a guaranteed death. He's a big maniac who just wants to start war, someone should buy him the new C&C and then he could sit and play with that instead of the real world. He would probably like the world without all those annoying people which he is supposed to represent. And then we haven't mentioned all those problems with the nature! Why must there be so many problems out there we can't solve with a war!?

He's stupid... I don't have anything against him really, just that he should realized he would be better fit as president in World War II and not in a time when peace is seen as something better rather than war. Pretty hard to defend Bush on this topic too...

Regarding topics in general that have to do with Bush and the government, I really have seen a lot less people defending him lately.

And the polls are showing it big time.  Have you seen the latest approval ratings for him?

It took a while, but people are beginning to have it sink in that we're in a shit load of trouble right now.

Took a while? took too long,  now almost 7 years later and not including his lame duck period he has had plenty of time to do what he wants. Don't even know why I am adding any copper to this topic since politics  are all about Republican/Democrats, which is lame,  and cant have anyone else in the white house/Congress who might be middle of the road....

I think I just need to sleep this one off...something about politics pisses me off...

I think I just need to sleep this one off...something about politics pisses me off... You're right about all politics being Republican v. Democrat.  And that's what's killing off any progress we could be making right now.

I think this is a perfect example of where this Presidents head is at when it comes to governing and it should be all over the news channels.  Has anyone seen this on Fox News at all?

He is not a conservative.  He has never acted like one.

The neo-Cons are going to destroy this country.  We're on the path right now and picking up speed.  Yet, people are too wrapped up in their "economic success" to see the big picture.  There's more to life than making money.  There are actually things people have believed in to fight and die for and we're numbly giving them away.
