Death

I was wondering how other people feel about the death system in EQII? The link below will guide you to an official FAQ upon the subject.

-edit: also one thing that it doesn't really cover is item decay. I'll see if I cant find a post upon it, but everytime you die your items decay and you can repair them, but it is stated that after a certain amount of times of repair your items repair cost become exponentially greater.

Your scathing wit and daring insight into the turbulent political crags of the internet are shining beacons of truth and purity for the slight remaining masses of visionless hypocriticial sheep who bleat at the thought of your glory

It seems that every time you die your weapons will decay 4%, meaning that if you die 25 times without repairing them, they will become useless.  But I am not sure if when they say decay, they mean the actual stats of the weapon or from a durability count like in diablo 2.  I hope it is the later, because actually having weakening items would make the point of having stronger gear cease to be.

This sounds good to me now, without seeing it in action. I like the lack of a lootable corpse, or any corpse, for that matter. This death system reminds me of one of my favorite NWN PWs. ::::22::

I wonder what the aspects of permadeath are like, if any apply. Off I go to read up on death. ::::30::

However they want to describe it, the spirit shard is a death penalty since losing a shard limits one's experience gain, etc., for an unpublished amount of time AND since one can end up recovering their shard eventually even if one doesn't go looking for it.

I do believe this is an interesting concept that is less discouraging than an actual death penalty since one could go straight back to the spot of death and get it (assuming nothing there would kill you again) moments later and not worry about losing one's "spirit."

Additionally, this does bring a whole new meaning to that high school sports cheer: "We've got spirit, yes we do! We've got spirit, how 'bout you?" image
