    Hey jestor -

Always an honor reading your posts. I would expect developers would be putting costs like these in their budget proposals to their investors/lenders.

    Is this research company reputable?

Based on the other high price reports about the gaming industry  I am sure the some investor and developers are buying these reports  I found them a web article from Next Gen - http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5798&Itemid=2  . They must have enought creditabilty for Next Gen  to be quoting and linking them.

And now we know why games cost so much money to make. If you pay this much money to get reports on the gaming industry that I'm sure anyone who has been playing games for more than 2 years could tell you. Also I bet reports like these have something to do with games like W*I*S*H closing down before they ever give it a true go at it. If the report says your type of game won't make money, well, investors go running!

Wow..3 thousand bucks for a silly little report ? Makes me wonder how did they get their numbers when game companies usually do not report their subscription numbers. 700 pages... 3400$ bucks for the thing... soo that's about almost $5 bucks per page of info.

Ill go in on it for like 1 or 2 bucks. But really, some of you laugh. Reports like these take forever to do and are alot of hard work. I did one this term for the carbon market. It can be fun though and you can get the info on any company. Sometimes its as easy as just asking for it.

I agreed but when has SOE or their competitors provided the information willingly... Never.  The sales of a report like this is about 3 to 6 a day and that is considered a success to the content provider. What we need is a web presence ,password protected for the contributors and a paypal account for the same. Then we are in business.

This information is golden , its the Holy Grail to the misinformed player base (er , that would be us).  But it is 3k +.

How much do you pay someone to read all 700 pages of data and then analyze, extrapolate, summarize and distill the information into 1 page of pristine practically useful piece of information ?

Are you kidding me?  I can lead you to more useful information about games you play.  While playing games, ask yourself a single question:

    "Am I having fun?"

That information is more important to a player than anything listed in that report.

If only the companies themselves would wonder if we were having fun. If they did then alot of things would be different . Since they failed to find out what we are all about then let us be pro-active and find out what they are all about.

We know what they are about.  Money.

Some companies choose to make a quality product and attract an educated consumer.  Other companies make the cheapest possible product for the widest possible profit margin marketed to ignorant consumers.

Your expensive report will have a bunch of charts and graphs outlining different companies and products with the focus on overhead investment costs compared to profit margins.  But, none of that really effects a gamer that is true to him or herself.

Marketing information is useless to players unless they want to play the "cool game" and they are people that jump on the bandwagon.  That is part of what sickens me about American culture.  People defend a game by saying it has X subscribers and sold Y coppies this month.  People defend movies by stating that it sold X amount during its opening day weekend.

How many people objectively ask themselves what they thought or what their reactions are to their own experience with a product?

    Not many.

Never the less, Having this information would be of interest to me and I am sure quite a few others but the cost makes it probitive. As I already stated , MMORPGchart.com has been inactive for a year now and I would atleast  pay $20 a month for the Subscription numbers. I have an Idea. I e-mail them and ask for that inforation. Wouldn't that be great?
