Anyone running windows Vista?

I'm thinking of picking up a copy of Vista this weekend.  I already have a decent system with an 8800GTS video card and 4 gigs of memory.  DirectX 10 and upcoming games is my logic with the purchase.  I know LOTRO doesn't support DX10 but does it run well with Vista?  I have heard more than once that Vista and some games don't do well together.  Is LOTRO one of these games?

I've been running it about a month now, and it is driving me crazy. Last night it took me about an hour to install my already installed printer because of permission issues and not being able to find the Vista drivers available. It's just an annoying OS because some things [especially drivers]. It just makes things that required seconds with XP require about to half an hour.

Running Vista on my new machine and I have not really had many issues yet, the compatibility of some things is annoying, I had to remove my Print server becuase Vista did not support it, but again this is just a minor set back...

I found to many issues with things using Explorer to download with Vista so I started using Firefox and haven't had to many issues since. Then I use Gigaget as my download manager.

I'm really an not to thrilled with vista though, it has issues with everything it seems. I've had it for a week and I really am disappointed with it.

Avoid it at all costs. It's fine if you're not doing any gaming. However, the driver support for graphics cards is just not up to par yet, and every game I've run in it thus far has taken at least a 15fps hit, if not more.

    runing vista x64

yes there is a slight fps hit due to the drivers coming out a little slow but that will be cleared up in what...3 months max.  If you have the system pick up vista, or if your building a new one.

Brag point: i just built a new system: qx6700; 4g ddr2 2700 ram; WD 500g (250x2 raid 0); BFG 8800gtx oc2; and new Dell 30" monitor--took a slight fps hit but i still play everything in max and going from 80fps to 65fps is not really that bad (human eye only sees 60fps max)

Ugh......not into the driving me crazy thing.  One of the things I truely enjoy about XP is, well, how well it works.  I can recall with DOS, WIN95 and even WIN98 that driving me crazy feeling.  Sooooooo, it looks like I'll hold off on the Vista upgrade.  Although, I could install Vista on a second hard drive and just see how it goes.  Bah, I'll just wait til the DX10 games start rolling out.  Hopefully by then some of these issues will be rectified.

i researched Vista in hoppes of finding a reason to upgrade. end up finding no single determining reason that would necessitate such an upgrade. And I will not be upgrading for another 6 months minimum at least.

but i read in the latest Maximum PC magazine that Microsoft is cutting off XP to computer manufacturers e.g. dell , northwest, hp etc, come january 2008. now the question remains will it still be sold at retail stores. i damn sure hope so, because given its history thus far, they have yet to prove that XP is obselete. businesses arent going to be upgrading for god knows how long. anyone with a brain stem will no be upgrading within the next 6 months or more if they truly value their sanity and money.

forget all that 3 months crap. lol i want it to work now. i hate it when Micro$poof advertises or companies advertise "vista ready' even nvidia did, and the damn cards didnt even work barely. it took damn near 3 revisions to the cards drivers to make the 8800's even remotely suitable for playing games. e.g. crashes, BSod's, runtime errors, D3d problems. I dont believe  when purchasing a product that "i should wait 3 months" then it work routine.

that doesnt work for me. maybe other people with lower IQ's who can't form a suitable assestment on a product can tolerate it. but i value my money. as far as FPS, im not one of those people who cries whenever my game goes below 100 fps lol. im happy with anything above 30 fps. but i cant tolerate graphical problems, glitches, and other instability issues due to a prematurely released product such as Vista. when you start tolerating stuff like that , you send a clear message to companies such as MS, EA, and various corporate entities ythat its okay to be lazy, let us pay full price to debug, and beta test an unfinished product. thanx for ruining it for the rest of us. good call buddy.

but i do believe eventually you have to upgrade, you do have to adapt. but I adapt opnly when most of the issues are dealt with and i can play or operate my PC without any crashes, or instability problems.  we will soon see in 6 months if this holds true.

I have the GeForce 8800GTX 768Mb Card and I have had NO issues to date so I say money well spent...

And maybe before you start poking and downgrading other folks and their IQ, you should spell check your work?? Just a suggestion!

I'm running Vista x64 Ultimate and it runs fine for the most part. I have a crash here and there on LOTRO, but if you look at their forums it doesn't matter what OS you use there are crashes.

And each persons computer is going to be different than yours. You may have zero problems with Vista while other people have a lot of problems. I like Vista and have no plans on going back to XP. All my stuff works.

And with 4 gigs of memory you're going to have to use Vista x64 (if you're upgrading) if you want to see all that 4 gigs, but I'm sure you already knew that.

All editions of Windows Vista 64-bit provide increased memory support beyond the standard 4 gigabytes (GB) available with 32-bit editions. Straight off the Microsoft Vista site located here www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/64bit.mspx

all i would say not everyone has the luxury of not having too many crashes. I just feel the OS is being pushed, forced upon us too soon. As far as I have seen there is no true incentive to upgrade from xp to vista. none. I will admit that I will eventually upgrade, but not for a good 4-6 months I would estimate. as far as the IQ remark Ill retract that. Though there are questionable doubts on the rhyme and reason, some people will pay for such a shoddy product that vista is as of now.

There were a few people even on gamespot bitching to me, saying I should just upgrade stop whining. I don't see it as whining, I see it as expressing my view on a unreasonable approach to marketing, and establishing vista as the end all be all in OS's when in fact it is not. THe OS needs serious work, just like XP most people such as myself will not purchase it until the 1st service pack comes out. I figure if people wanna spend their money beta testing software at full price, hey go nuts! have a ball. But remember you effect the community's overall quality in software that much more. Whether it be MS, EA, Realm Ent, Mythic, SOE, whomever.

You show them that it is alright be just a bit more lazy. That " oh dont worry lets get it to gold, people who buy it can crush the last of the major bugs". I won't deny that all bugs can't be rid of on a software packagel, it truthfully doesn't exist. As long as human are involved in the process of coding, there will be errors. But i feel that the errors, and issues should be minimal. Most companies are now notorious of "passing the buck" off to customers. We end up paying full price for a buggy product, which had they took another 2-5 months of testing, Q/A'ing they would of had a more stable product. Let's not fool ourselves, we are the prefectors to our own doom. We are reason for the current position we are in with the quality of most software.

The only reason I have Vista atm is because the new machine I ordered through Dell came with it and I had no option to order it with XP. I am not sure if most people that have the issues are UPGRADES or Clean Installs. I would agree though if you have no reason to upgrade don't, New is not always better for everyone.

I have been running on Vista since before launch and other than an occasional crash (which I believe is not OS related) I have been fine. My crashes are rare too, only once every few times I log in. I play for hours without a hicup.

I have not problem running LOTRO on Windows Vista Ultimate 64.

LOTRO is a "Game for Windows", It's supposed to have full compatibility with Windows Vista.

You can have some problems if you use the Highres client, but Turbine is working on it.

Personally, since the last LOTRO update and NVIDIA latest drivers I notice a great stability.
