WoW RP :(

I've been playing WoW since release and after about a year of play I got bored and decided to try RPing it for fun.  Unfortunately, every RP server I went to seemed to be populated with people who really didn't care about anything RP.  Infact, it was mainly occupied by people just trying to ruin the RP fun.  Is this how it is on all MMORPGs?  Do you pretty much just have to RP on your guild forums or via gchat and tells?

That's sad to here there, I've heard that about WoW, it's a sad thing when that happens. I wont lie and say that the problem doesn't exist on Ultima. The problem is really small nowadays and the role playing community are more than often left alone, it's also a very big part of the total community (on the Europa server anyway), it's a mature and well developed role playing community that are active. And Ultima is, and has always been, the best game for role playing because of the freedome in the game.

For more information on Ultima go to www.uo.com to just check out what the role playing is in the game you can check cove.fantasyworld.nl/ that is a site for one of the biggest role playing guilds on the shard. For other information you can check www.uoforums.com/forumdisplay.php

Hope that answers your question somewhat.

WoW is unfortunately famous for its scarce RP community and it's RP greifers (among other things).    That's why I didn't last a day in WoW.

EQ2 has a very good and mature RP community, mainly on the Antonia Bayle or Lucan D'Lere servers.  I heard that Lord of the Rings Online also has a decent RP community.

If you're willing to leave the fantasy genre behind, there's also City of Heroes that has its niche of roleplayers, especially on the Virtue server.

Of course, not every one in those games RP and there are a few griefers here and there.  But they are rare and quickly flamed to death by other players.  So all in all, those have pretty enjoyable RP communities.

To be honest, the best community of players that I've found in an MMO so far has been in CoH/CoV.  I haven't been playing MMO's that long (3 years), nor have I played more than a handful, but CoH seems to have a higher average age of players and 99% of the people I have grouped with in a pug have been really enjoyable people.  I guess this might have to do with the horrid excuse for the playerbase in WoW which as made me very catious to play outside a known circle of friends.  I can't pug in that game whatsoever and all of the general channels are filled with children who'd rather be devisive than helpful.
