In the character creation area you choose your race gender and looks... thats all normal... then the developers says when you chose female the camera swings into a back room where the female avatars are held to preform "service's" for the crew... (after all it is a slave ship, and you start as a slave, and women obviously wouldn't be rowing the boat)
my question is will female charaters have the ability to be prostitutes?
I'm fairly positive the answer is no, but wouldn't it be neat if it were yes.
in the Conan books wern't women more often the reward then the help?
I'm guessing at launch it will be a 95% male 5% female ratio
so I have come to the decession to make My first character female... (thats right, I a male will make and play a Female main character purely for the feeble attempt of balancing the genders of vertual people in a world set in 10,000 BC)
and if I get board I'll see if the time (dis)honered career of prostitution is a possable one... (Which may never happen due to the clear awesomeness of this game)
any of you out there wana do the same?

Prostitution is out i'm pretty sure lol
The Acolytes have roughly 300 members with a 12 to 1 ratio male to female so far.
Believe it or not there are quite a few women intent on kicking ass in this game out there, and I think thats awesome!
There may not be a prostitute class ingame, but im pretty sure Funcom didn't change the introduction sequence where the women are being depicted as "love-slaves" .
Off course you are free to roleplay one if you choose one. In terms of RP-believability a prostitute would definatly fit in the conan lore, unlike for example LOTRO where a prostitute (male or female), simply wouldn't fit.
Oh, I don't know about that, the way the local women have been going on about Legolas, I think elven male prostitutes wouldn't be too unwelcome, even if it does violate the... spirit of the original lore.
Personally, I have a male for my main character most of the time. But then, with any other characters the sex is up for grabs so to speak, I'd choose male or female depending soley upon the kind of attitude I wish to protray with the character and his/her style of taking on day to day events, whether or not I actually end up actively RPing with that character. To be honest, I'm pretty bad at actively RPing a female, except for the dominant feminist type ironically enough, I never really understood their mode of thought for the most part.

So, we all know that in this world of decapitations and gore, showing nipples or turf is out...prostitution therefore seems unlikely. However, what makes me sicker than this strange america fueled hypocrisy, is the politicaly correct notion that women are physically as strong as men...That's realistic?
Crom, I hope the instruction manual or tutorials don't say, "his or her" or worse yet!, do the NWN thing of alternating between masculine and feminine when describing classes. I'd like a company to understand the core audience of an adult game already has a difficult enough time immersing into a brutal fantasy world without catering to 13 year old girls who some f**k wit decided needed protection when playing an adult game (mature ladies that would actually read a conan novel would prefer the honesty)
Show the nipples, deduct strength for female characters (this would also elliminate most males playing female to gain favors), have npc prostitutes, concubines and slaves, don't make fighter class npc's 50/50 male/female, be brutal and honest to Howard and every other writer that inspires us to play this stuff, and I guarantee that when we chop someone's head off, it will feel more like we really did it when drinking later in the tavern.
Hehe.. Would be a fun alt.
But let's stick with the current profs
I won't intend to, but if I make a guy that just moistens some bored housewife and she plans on paying me in game gold to talk dirty to her. Then yeah, I'm gonna do it.
Yet, I won't go seeking female avatars for a good time. I don't mind providing. So consider AoC to already possess the giggilo profession.

Dude, go ahead and use your own brain to answer those questions yourself. You really seem intelligent enough to do that, so why should i go trough the trouble eh?
You win, you really do.

Its annoying since you wouldn't complain about a book doing these things

Believe it or not I agree with this poster. I think they should consider that females are generally the weaker of the two sexes. I'd have no problem playing a female avatar that doesn't have the same strength stats as the male toons - however, there is this thing called dexterity(agility) and if I recall in Howards world he created female warriors Valeria being one of them. In the story Red Nails, Howard tells us Valeria is more then capable of defeating men in battle because of her agility and grace with swords. Then there is the fact that Valeria, like Conan, had the tenacity to survive at all cost. She faught as much with her brain as she did with her swords, as did Conan, and both had this strength of will that enabled them to over come what is put before them. If you remember this was something Conan admired in Valeria. Here is an excerpt from Red Nails - last Conan Story written by Howard.
"Then be on your way,” she advised. “I have other plans.”
“Don't be a fool!” He showed irratation for the first time. “You can't keep on wandering through this forest.”
“I can if I choose.”
“But what do you intend doing?”
“That's none of your affair,” she snapped.
“Yes, it is,” he answered calmly. “Do you think I've followed you this far, to turn around and ride off empty-handed? Be sensible, wench. I'm not going to harm you.”
He stepped toward her, and she sprang back, whipping out her sword.
“Keep back, you barbarian dog! I'll split you like a roast pig!”
He halted, reluctantly, and demanded: “Do you want me to take that toy away from you and spank you with it?”
“Words! Nothing but words!” she mocked, lights like the gleam of the sun on blue water dancing in her reckless eyes.
He knew it was the truth. No living man could disarm Valeria of the Brotherhood with his bare hands. He scowled, his sensations a tangle of conflicting emotions. He was angry, yet he was amused and filled with admiration for her spirit. He burned with eagerness to seize that splendid figure and crush it in his iron arms, yet he greatly desired not to hurt the girl. He was torn between a desire to shake her soundly, and a desire to caress her. He knew if he came any nearer her sword would be sheathed in his heart. He had seen Valeria kill too many men in border forays and tavern brawls to have any illusions about her. He knew she was as quick and ferocious as a tigress. He could draw his broadsword and disarm her, beat the blade out of her hand, but the thought of drawing a sword on a woman, even without intent of injury, was extremely repugnant to him."
So it stands to reason that if AoC is to depict women in Howards world there is a chance that a female warrior could no doubt handle herself - not with strength as Conan did, but with finesse. Maybe they should consider giving females in game less strength and up their dexterity to account for the fact that though we're not as strong as our male counter parts - we can be very nimble and very fast.

This is wonderful!
More games should do this, especially in the fantasy/way-back-in-the-past genre. Women are weaker as a rule, and men are less agile. It's the way of the world, and even such a simple thing would make things more interesting. I am a little tired of the Politically Correct world where we try to pretend that men and women are not different. We are. But it's a good thing!

No doubt. I always considered The Elder Scroll series to be on target with male and female traits per race even.
The Sygs could do well to have slightly stronger men and more intelligent women. Who obviously the demons they're going to summon would prefer anyway.

Just checked out on Google who the heck this Jack Thompson was youre talking about. Of course its another stupid fraking American politician. This really pisses me of, because you know what, i can really see these idiot moralist knights from over the pond once again ruining an IP with their political correctness crap and their holier than tho attitudes.
If there is one hope we got, its that the developers at least aren't American's. They are from Norway, and thankfully people from Norway are known as openminded and modern people, not the kind of stupid rednecks with their head in the mud like that Jack Thompson fellow. Let's hope they are holding their beliefs about the Conan licence strong. We don't need prostitutes on every corner, but i can clearly see AMERICANS and their stupid perversely fucked up value system (throw a thousand nuclear bombs on a country we never heard of and we will cheer, but show one nipple and we are upset), really ruining this game. AMERICANS will probably only be happy if every videogame is like virtual lala-land (but without tinky winky, because he might be GAY!).
A real shame, I know its financially impossible, but this game would have had a much better outlook if funcom would just not release it in the U.S. altogther. No Jack Thompson and other stupid moralists to worry about.
And yes I know there are modern-thinking AMERICANS out there too. Not every AMERICAN is a godfearing, brainless redneck. But those who aren't for sake of art, freedom of speech in art, movies and videogames, GO FIX YOUR COUNTRY! AND LEAVE OUR GAMES ALONE!

Oh well, we really don't need prostitution in our video games, nor drug running any of the myriad of social ills that plague our society atm....
But I did take the OP's original post for what it was..an attempt at humor, and I agree with the folks who said that female/male characters should probably have some differences in strength/agility/intelligence between them.
