First 6 months of the game, before the Holocraze and "We want jeeeeeeeeeeti!!" criers came aboard, SWG had a fantastic atmosphere.

Everyone was a Star Wars fan, with knowledge about the lore and continuity of the time we were supposed to be in. Fantastic people, heck, I once ended up spending 3 hours in a cantina, arguing about the "continuity" of SOE having CorSec flying the X-Wing heh.

Ofcourse, when Jeti was released and the hologrind started, Star Wars fans left in droves, to be replaced by "Jar Jar r00ls!! And Maul is King!" crowd.

But boy was those 6 first months of the game magic. No matter where you turned, you could always find someone to speak to about a hydrospanner, or "how to skin a wokiee without getting your arms ripped off".

When I see a thread like this all I think about how the "Silent majority " was silenced here .  MMORPG.com is going to get some good old new Ad revenue soon .  It will not change the results

*sigh* good good times. some i will never forget. I remember the first time i played i got all excited about 1shot "kip shotting" a kreetle just outside of mos entha. I remember the times of fighting at anchorhead. I remember the long walks to cities way out in the boonies and meeting other people along the way, heck i even met a person tending to a harvester and remember him asking me if i had a certian resource. I didn't but i knew where to get it and became his supplier. Then had many adventures with him and his other friends.

I remember one time i decided to roleplay a bit more exclusively and went down the drink section of chef. I went into the cantina of theed and roleplayed a bartender. To my surprise many people roleplayed back, acted drunk, fought over lady entertainers. I remember whipping out a pistol and saying "take it outside boys" Hahaha good times. I named my food crating station power droid "cooler" since he looked like a small walking fridge.

    Man... i miss pre-cu.... :(

Wow, so many memories.  I remember when I first started out, I joined a group of around 20 and we went out hunting.  Someone setup a large campsite and there were medics there healing and buffing everyone as we all talked both a bit  about our next strategy and also just life in general.

Later on I became a Master Artisan and Vendor.  I would trade people Bikes and speeders in exchange for them putting down some Miners for me.  At one point I had over 100 Miners and Factories in my Back Yard.  I ended up with almost 4 Million credits, which at the time was a LOT, but now that inflations has become absolutely rampant, it's practically nothing.  Now, everyone gets a free speeder and ship when they first start off.

I remember some of the Stim Packs that I made would take several manufacturing processes to make, for me that was a lot of fun, the satisfaction of it all.  Plus, since I understood exactly what was required for high quality stuff, I would usually end up with the VERY highest quality items around.  People in Kauri used to come from every planet in the Galaxy to buy stuff from me.  I remember I used to mark my items with the Coordinates to my House/Store.

The last time I seriously played, I setup a Race in the old Racetrack (from episode 1) I was going to give out 100K credits to the winner, again A LOT of money at the time.  I had a special token that I setup in my shop that you had to buy for like 100 credits, but the point wasn't to make money, I just didin't want anyone buying all the tokens.  I setup a bunch of tents at checkpoints and to win, you had to enter a token in each vendor, then get the next one.  First person to successfully navigate the course would win.

The day before the Race, my account was cancelled.  CS said that I was duping credits.  After a BUNCH of calls to them, they opened an investigation, realized they made a mistake and gave me my account back after 2 months, with 2 months free.  That's actually what ruined it for me.  By the time I got back into the game the CU was in and all my friends started to quit.

Oh well, I'm going to give it another shot, since I can't really find anything that holds my interest right now.  Kauri's Dead. Anyone know which is the busiest server?

The long treks to Jabba's palace were certainly interesting.  No speeders, had to make the trek from Anchorhead to Wayfar by foot.  If you got killed either on the way to Jabba's, or if you got killed while doing one of the missions you spawned all the way back to Anchorhead - just to make the trek all over again.  Having said that I believe that was how I stumbled upon the Lars homestead by accident, was by doing that trek by foot.  I remember the first month or so playing the game and finding player skeletons/corpse laying around - kinda gave an unnerving feeling about the place you were exploring, perhaps there was danger near by, or somebody just got careless or whatever.

I remember doing the rebel theme park, only to realize I couldn't advance any further because of the infamous Han Solo bug.  Once that was fixed I was able to complete it, and all in all the Rebel theme park was a lot of fun I thought... probably one of the better quests in the game.  I then started earning Imperial faction points so I could do the Imperial theme park.  (I did everything with one character, I never had any alts.)  After I finished the Imp theme park I went back to being a rebel again.

I really loved the Nova troopers they introduced for a short time in cities during the Imperial crack down.. I think they lasted a good 7 hours before they removed them from cities because people were crying they were too strong.  But I loved it, especially being a rebel it gave a certain sense of being in danger.

Landing on Dath for the first time was an experience all in itself, encountering Rancors and all the other baddies on that planet was a lot of fun and was certainly dangerous.  Had a large group and we'd go on hunts and just explore Dath and Endor.   I'd harvest bone and hide like mad, I had a huge surplus of bones and hides just so I could make camp kits.  By the time I left the game when the NGE hit I still had huge amounts of both.

The game was certainly a lot of fun for the first year.  I could even live with the CU in all honesty, plus we finally had speeders and the JTL expansion was a lot of fun too.  Player cities were kinda cool until most of them started becoming ghost towns.

    Great memories,

    1. Early weaponsmith crafting.
    2. Running harvestor business and teaching players how to make loads of credits simply by starting with a single small harvestor and growing to heavy harvestors.
    3. Gathering hides, bones and meat while earning credits on lairs and XP.
    4. Winning the "Lotto" at a player event and taking home a bounty full of cool loot.  This event had dancers, a jedi duel the coolest group of entertainers.  It was a blast.
    5. Getting tailor made clothing from tailors who tried to match your personality with an outfit.
    6. Doc Buffing in Coronet.
    7. Running bounty hunter missions with the guild.
    8. Setting up profitable vendors for the first time.
    9. Making swoops with 100 stat resources.
    10. Trading and retrading loot.  I was quiet good at buying low and selling high.
    11. Getting back sliced equipment and hoping for 90%.
    12. Finally getting my full suit of RIS crafted.
    13. Early Kryat Dragon hunting with pets.  I loved my super fast Peko Peko!
    14. My First Deathwatch Bunker run.
    15. Helping kill a Tusken King.
    16. Winning all 3 swoop tracks and not at server start.
    17. Playing swg with my brother in California.
    18. Reading the forums for strategy.
    19. Character building and skill building.
    20. Getting my sweet reverse stat bones and getting stun batons made from them.
    21. Pvping as a Fencer, CM Doc and being able to outlast/beat full templated Jedi Knights.
    22. Hanging in Cantina's and chatting in Guild Chat.
    23. Decorating my house.  I had a cool pad I did the work myself.  Made a Fish tank.  Had cool crafting basement with rare max stat crafting stations.

      Oh man, where to begin?

First off, I salute all you guys and your great times in a world now buried.

I logged in on Bestine, Tatooine and I could almost taste the sand blowing in the air. A couple of stormtroopers pass by me and was it just my imagination or was one of them giving me a suspicious look?

I remember being completely lost in this vast world with my puny cdef rifle and a melon! I remember going into the cantina and the music blasted through the speakers and I silently said to myself  " I'm home...".

I remember, getting my ass kicked with friends in Fort Tusken and the Tusken Executioner with around 250K hit points near the squill cave who occassionally came down from his high perch to kick some ass.

I remember finding the rebs in the basement of the bar in Anchorhead, making my final decision to become a rebel. Ahh, the good times when Bestine Imps would come in 10-12 man squads and goad us Anchorhead boys into a fight. Man, those imps sure had their team work coordinated and mopped the sandfloor with us rebs, hehe, but it was great fun.

I remember cruising the Dunes of Tatooine, stumbling into a new player. We talked and talked and I told him alot of stuff. It was so great we didn't even put our bikes away, so 2 hours later they were still screaming in the background and were completely on fire, hehe.

I remember my guild. My guildmaster was a 40 year old woman IRL and she had the guild so coordinated and motivated that I felt we could take on the Empire by ourselves. The countless hours spent on discussing politics, day-to-day problems and just watching the sun set or talking to a guildie coming back from a hunt.

I remember a self-appointed leader of an improvised group yelling " Hold the line, goddammit !! "  or " execute delta manouvre"  or " secure that flank NOW ". Lol, I hated his guts, but I respected his command abilities and told him so, he would later become one of my best online friends.

I remember walking into a scout camp as a newb wondering what the hell this was. The people all invited me to join. They'd never seen me before, but when I left them 1½ hour later I was rich in items, knowledge and great stories to tell.

I remember..... being part of the best ever online community

I think my favorite memory is the night of the mount publish.

First thing I did when I logged in was call my dewback, put a saddle on him, and start to ride.  Into the streets of Doaba Guerfel.  It was great.  People around (and there were about 10 people in Doaba that night) would stop and stare.

Took the shuttle to Coronet, and it was insane there, with players bidding in spatial for mount pets.  Ridiculous sums were being offered for mounts.  EVERYONE had to have one, and the sky was just about the limit of what people would pay.  Many MCHs made a ton of credits in the next few days.

Then I joined the guildies on Tatooine, in Mos Taike, of all places.  I had a bunch of carrion spats on my droid from the brief period when you could store pets on droid datapads, and handed them out.  Then we went off looking for lesser dewbacks to tame and give to the guildies who didn't have mounts yet, or wanted a dewback.  Of course, you had to wait five days for the dew to grow to mountable size, but it was great fun never the less.

A couple days later I discovered that you could put a saddle on a savage humbaba, and boy was the view from up there a treat.  Everyone looked like an ant from atop a savage humbaba!

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

I love how you put "the second day vet", I remember the day it came out and I couldn't log in because the servers were being overloaded by thousands of players trying to log in. And I remember that I took that day off too! Was great when I was finally able to play though..

Yeah, I remember the Anchorhead to Wayfar run. You had to team up with others to get through the bandits that kept spawning half way along. I remember the great feeling I had when I finally made it. Before I used to give up in frustration.

Anyway, I had to import the game to the UK after launch as the European launch happened later in the year. Back then SOE decided that all Euro English speakers and Americans would play on the same US servers so there was no need to wait to play on Euro based servers.

I avidly read the forums before whilst I waited for the game. Reading the forums was fun in itself. Merchants such as droid engineers, weaponsmiths and tailors promoted their shops and wares. Some guys moaned about people stealing their pets and of course several guys asked for help because they’d made a one way trip to Endor and found they were too weak to earn the creds to get back home. Major cities were busy and even the outposts had life.

I remember doing the training mission then landing at Doaba Guerfel even though I thought I was going to Mos Eisley. I was so unsure at what to do, I didn’t move for half an hour. Then some guy called Chocobo Joe, who was crafting behind me, asked if I’d just arrived. He knew it was a new player spawn point and asked me if I wanted some clothes. I accepted. Now dressed in more than just newbie kit, I started to wander the town and investigate the buildings. There was a bit of life but it was pretty quiet and everyone seemed to be running around with a purpose. I loved watching the droids all wandering around.

I remember when the first nightfall came and I was afraid to walk near the edge of the town because I unsure what was out there and was frightened something would come into town and get me. When I did venture out the next day, I saw red mobs cutting me off from basic resources. I thought this game’s tough!!!

Yes, I remember all the walking. The hanging around at shuttle ports and starports. Being taught how to programme a droid. Buying my first house and getting a good location just across the river from Coronet. The fantastic in game economy where you had to buy just about everything from other players and people kept moaning at things being overpriced. The deals to sell other crafters wares as I was a Master Merchant with a good location. The people who would visit my tailor/ chef and chat with me. My days as a doctor and enjoying hospital chat, as well as staring at those skimpy outfits in cantinas. Got shot in the back with my trooper at terminals countless times when doing rebel npc kill missions. Those early days were great!

    OMG where to begin.

    1) Signing in that first time, took forever it seemed like, so many people trying to get on.  Once on my character was standing in Mos Espa and it was alive.  God the feeling was like yes...this is so cool.   Got my bearings and went looking for people.  Found them at the cantina.   It was just so very cool.

    2) Traveling out into the desert for the first time on Tatooine and seeing the double suns set on the horizon.   That was awesome.

    3) Coming across a player made camp and we RP'ed the whole encounter...was like 3hrs long.    We even did a little scouting and hunting.  OMG we hunted Banthas that time - god that was fun.

    4) Getting my hubby to play and we set up a nice house in a canyon north of Mos Espa.  It stayed in that same spot for over a year.   The power gen and water condenser never moving.   It was so very cool.  Pirates would spawn near our home and attack us and we'd have to fight them off.   Some good times.

    5) Learning to be a dancer in the cantina in Mos Espa.  Made lots of good friends and we had a blast.   I think my character still has the original danace outfits she bought from Feathers Boutique just outside the city.

    6) Moving to wayside and dancing at the Brass Bantha as a Master Dancer.   Good times.

    7) Opening my own shops to sell goods.  I was quite the business women, made millions and millions of credits!  Woohoo!  If only it was as easy in real life.  LOL!

    8) Getting envolved with a Krayt hunt...I had no combat skills what to speak of really, and yet there I was tagging along with a pretty good size group hunting Krayts.   Lots of fun and plenty of laughs!

    9) Getting into JTL beta...OMG...that was so much fun.   JTL made SWG that much more fun to play.

    10) Joining the rebels after the Empire starting cracking down.  We went into Mos Espa and took out all the Impirals we came across.

Hmmm, good topic, few things I remember that have always stuck.  One of my most exciting moments was when I finally learned the autorun key existed (yes, was my first mmo, had no idea).  I'd been driving out to the village for like 2 weeks already, was going with a buddy, asked how he could type so fast while driving.  He was like, dude, autorun, hit num lock.  Yeah, I was embarrassed.  Those village trips were a pain in the butt, but became much easier after that.

When I first started, was running around solo training scout outside C-Net.  Wasn't really interacting at all, just playing around, wondering if I really wanted to keep playing.  Then some big wook, Yubyub, came running up to me.  He was master ranger, set up a camp, and started asking me questions.  Gave me gameplay tips, asked how I liked game, told me how bazaar worked, etc.  Basically gave me a crash course in how the game worked.  He also crafted me a set of armor, wasn't much, but a lot better than what I had.  I kept that set of armor in my "war room" in guild hall/house until the day I cancelled.  He got me into his guild, introduced me to everyone, and became the best friend I've ever had in the mmo world.  We did everything together after that.  If it wasn't for him, I'm not sure I ever woulda left the outskirts of C-Net, and probably wouldn't have played more than a month or so.  Instead, devoted year and a half to that game, stuck with the same guild the whole time.  Don't know whatever happened to you Yub, but I miss ya.

And yeah, the player housing.  I would sometimes stay up til the wee hours of the morning just redecorating.  Eventually I was smart and just bought a guild hall, also set up and decorated the med center.  I had a war room, with all my rare armor/weapons, hunting trophies, banners, and of course the giant krayt dragon skull in the middle of the room.  Had the jedi room, with rows and rows of candles inside crystals, torches, and my imitation of a grievous robot on a podium in the front.  Damn that crap was hard to align lol.  Had my hologram/Rebel room, storage room that I split in half complete with a laser barrier door, fish tank, etc.  My favorite though was the bar.  Speakers, bar stools, tables with food and drinks, plants, TIE fighter and X-wing models hanging from ceiling, stove with burners and flames, beer cooler, droid in pink bikini named "Sloo-T bartender", and my favorite: ceiling fans made from sword blades, staves, and ship parts.  Damn I loved that house.
