It's pretty good. You'll need a higher end computer to run it and have it look good compared to what you would need to make WoW run and look good. It's a different game than WoW, a little more complex. At times the complexity is overdone. The multiple degrees of spell/combat art quality and mob difficulty are kind of pointless to me. There are 8, I believe, levels of spell quality. Do you really need that many? And there are 8 or 9 different levels of mob difficulty as well. It's overkill at times. Crafting isn't just add all parts together and presto! your brand new sword. There's a time sink in it so you don't power through it too fast.

The environments look much better to me than WoW, if you have a good rig. Character models are hit and miss.

There's a free trial out there. Worth giving that a shot.

Well, technically a High end computer in 2003. So, today, you just need an average PC

Aye. Which I like. You start out with Apprentice 1 spell and then you have a decision to upgrade it to either App II,III,IV or Adept 1 or Adept 3 or Master 1 or (given to you as you progress) Master 2.
You need to buy the spell upgrades if you want your spells more powerful. However, I didnt concentrate on Adept 1s until my mid 20s as it wasn't worth it because you can solo pretty fast from 1 to 20.  At lvl 50 I buy nothing but Adept 3 and Master 1 spells.  I dont even touch the Apprentice lvls. Really isnt that coomplicated when you think about it.

Crafting is like that now.  It used to be you had to make all the tiny little parts first and then made the sword.  Now its like a two step process versus a five.  I dont know about that power sink...I went from lvl 1 to lvl 20 in 4 hours crafting.  Seems too fast to me (compared to how it used to be)

If you want a game with a bit more depth and great community then this game may be for you. Try both trials and then decide.  I've been playing for a month now and I'm happy with my investment. Heck even the online petition system has surprised me. I had two cases where I was stuck, once on a box where I logged off from and logged back on being stuck on it. The other time my ISP crashed and I was in mid flight on a griffon. I logged back on and the griffon was gone and I stuck in mid air. lol  I did a petition and both cases where resolved with in a few minutes.  Unlike Anarchy Online where you would petition and you'd be lucky to hear anything with in 3hrs.

Anyways give the trials a shot.

I guess the answer depends on what you're looking for in a game. I like the game, it's very soloable up to lvl 55-60, and most of my grouping experience has been positive. The maturity level is pretty decent, and most people are helpful. PvP only exists on specific servers or if you duel someone. The latest content updates (yes, it does happen more than once every two years) have been solid, with only a few problems. If you buy the Echoes of Faydwer box you get all the previous expansions and the base game, so that's a value. Most of all I find the game fun, and in the end that's the only thing that counts for me.

I played WoW since November of 2005 till March of 2007, and now play EQ2.  I found it to be a much better game.  I play on the PvP server (Nagafen), which is like playing EQ2 in hard mode.  But I'm loving every moment.

Past: EQ, EQ2, DAoC, SWG, WoW, LotR, VG, WAR, GW, GW2, Rift
    Present: The Elder Scrolls Online
    Future: Everquest Next

If you can see past all the zoning and the bland boring generic ugly feel of the graphics then yes, however i couldn't.

    -----------------------------

    SWG - PrePub9 Jedi mastered all professions - June 26th 2003 > Nov 15th 2005
    EVE Online - 24 million SP - May 6th 2003 > Early 2005
    PlanetSide - BR20 CR5 - May 23rd 2003 > Sept 2003

Zoning isn't that bad in most areas, as they are pretty big. The devs have stated that the next expansion will have even less zoning. As for graphics, they're not bad, in fact on a high end computer it can be really amazing. Unfortunately taste in graphics are very individual, you can only judge it for your self.

hmm .. i agree .. the zoning isn't that bad at all .. i hardly notice it really .. i mean from the poster who was talking about the zoning and graphis well he played SWG and EVE for years .. yet he wants beautiful graphics and no zoning? i mean come on .. you zone in eve everytime you go through a gate .. and it doesn't take nearly as long to get from A to B in EQ2 as it does EvE .. and the graphics on SWG sure weren't anything to amaze me ...

over all i really like this game and since the EOF and now Neriak there is even more starter zones and content .. and the starter zones In EQ2 aren't someplace to wiz through real quick while you learn to mash buttons they are a bit more indepth and really get you ready for the game .. well except for the PvP .. which i'd suggest you play.. much more challenging and a better sense of accomplishment

    just my two cents

yeah i played WOW for 2 years and finally got burnt out on it, i started EQ2 about 2 weeks ago or so and i'm liking it, crafting is a bit more in depth--no where near as good as SWG, but it's decent, it's nice to feel like i have at least a little bit of control on how good the weapon is. the graphics are pretty nice on my computer, my computer is a couple years old, but it runs it fine on high quality. the only gripe i've got with it so far is the amount of resists i get on my casters, but other than that it's a lot of fun, definitely worth checking out.

You know there is always one of these guys in threads like this...  After coming back from VG and played WoW I have come to realize for now this is as good as it gets in MMOs for now.
