Well no it's not Turn Based. But it's something like the old NWN combat sytem, at least as far as speed goes. The first NWN was Turn Based, but it was so quick that you could not even tell it was Turn Based. But the thing GnH is doing insted of making it fully Turn Based, is they've taken from other game's like Soul Caliber, and Dungeon Siege, and made it a little of both, with the added quality of the cool move's. So no it's not Turn based, but it's close. And it is meant to give you time to plan out you'er next move with out freeking out.
So it's full on action packed, even if it is close to being Turn Based
They have said it will be a mix of todays MMO and Console (what I mean would be something like Mortal Combat) style combat. .. a mix of both.
You have to react rather quickly to moves so you cant just like auto-attack and watch TV and you will win (like you can for example in WoW), you would die. So no its not even remotly close to a turn-based combat.
Dont know why ppls think in this thread it will be turn based ? oO Maybe cause of the moves ? All moves you have seen in the video are finishing moves. It means the computer will look if you or the mob will die after the next hit and execute then the finishing move if you would die from it.
I have to say this game is what I'm looking for this year. With this type of combat and with adding nation vs nation pvp combat this will be the most anticipated game of the year.
sorta, but theres no way they made it turnbased fighting.(if they are smart) i mean it has its place but not in a dynamic mmo game. Atleast i hope its not turn based fighting, it would be a turn off for sure.
Not impressed. That looks like it was taken from a movie trailer made to promote the game and not from game play itself. We won't know for sure until the beta testers start violating their NDAs.
That's pretty much what the game play is, there's some other videos you can watch from their main site and forums. Most of them are from arena or gladiator fights, but there are some that are from quests that show a little more of the squad combat.
A birdie told me it isn't turn based, and has the same button-mashing system like all the other MMOs. Since the game is still in early beta, I'm guessing this could change. After seeing the combat system video for Age of Conan, it would be stupid for any other new MMO to use the old familiar button-mashing system.
Players love character customization, and the abilities system in G&H offers that. Again, the chatty birdie said the current system is similar to WoW's talents, but with more options, and God Powers. With this and some type of unique combat system, G&H would become very appealing to not only the MMO gamer, but the FPS'ers as well.
One other thing that makes the game different from others is the ability of each player to have control of up to 8 (number determined by level) minions to command. Over time you can hire these minions which all have different roles...tank, melee dps, ranged dps, spellcaster, or healer.
Anyway thats all I know. Hopefully the beta will open up soon for some of us, so we can check it out and help test the game.
It certainly looks good from the movies they are giving us. It will be nice to play something with a different style combat system and the finishing moves add interest to the fight. I think someone else alreay mentioned the tatic of auto attack whilst watching tv, it doesnt seem that you can do that in this game and, more importantly, will this act to reduce mob botters and power levellers...?

There so different from most other games out there and the combat looks fun too
Awesome. The fighting looks almost like a turned based rpg type. Anyone else think that too.
That does look awesome, thanks for the post. My interest in this game has just increased tremendously.
Looks great!
Now that's some sweet eye candy.
SO it is turned basedish combat?
So it's full on action packed, even if it is close to being Turn Based

Never give up and never surrender!
