Yes the max lv is 50. To answer the OP there are a couple of Bosses in game. I believe most of them (ones ive encountered) have been in task forces. Task forces are storyline driven quests which are very long in nature. I dont knwo if they have changed it since last time i played (1 year ago) but some of those TFs took 3-4 hours to complete. At lv 50 there is the hami raid which drops some high end enhancements and such. The game has kept getting a lot of free updates so im sure theres a lot more boss fights in.

Imo this is one of the best games out atm, its certanly unique and worth a shot if your tired of the elves and such.

What you are wondering about is what the game call Giant Monsters. You don't have to be lvl 50 to fight them because they basicaly have starts 3 lvls above you, no matter what level you are (they do have minimum lvls though I believe). Task Forces have archvillians at the end of them and those are truly epic fights, but take hours to complete. With issue 9 they added the invention system, redid the Hamidon battle and added the Statesman's task force. The statesman task force has got to be the hardest thing I have ever done in the game, I beleive it has about 10 archvillians in it.

There are monsters, or events, in just about every zone of the city now. Lusca the giant Octopus is in Independence Port, a 20-30 zone.

In Peregrine Island there are actually a few tiny islands populated purely by monsters, for which you roughly need a team of 8 or more to get them down. However they're pretty generic, like regular spawns only much bigger. Those same monsters are found in the Hive. However, the real appeal of the Hive is Hamidon.

Hamidon is a giant protoplasmic cell, who takes about 50 people to bring down - and is very difficult at that. The encounter was recently re-written to make it more varied since players had gotten the method down. But there's a lot to it, he does special unresistable damage, there are smaller cells within his radius that heal him or shoot their own damage, etc. It's quite the encounter and although beatable, at this time it's still a very difficult challenge. However when he's defeated you get a special Hamidon enhancement that boosts two attributes of your power while only using one slot.

And then there are other monsters or events like I said. In King's Row sometimes a bunch of Clockwork enemies get together and try to build a giant clockwork monster. If they succeed, he goes roaming around town with a clockwork parade behind him. However if you stop the construction, you get a special badge for your character. It's not too difficult to defeat if you get to the spot in time, but it still takes people's cooperation.

Likewise there is Kraken in Perez Park, Adamastor in Dark Astoria, Jurassik in Crey's Folly, Babbage in Faultline, Eochai and Jack in Irons both in Croatoa, and I'm probably forgetting at least one. Plus monsters are common during the seasonal events (giant snowmen in winter ...)

Then there are zone events. For example, in Steel Canyon the Hellions gang sometimes picks a building to set on fire. You can get a fire extinguisher from the Fire Chief and try to put them out - it will take several people to keep the building from ultimately exploding. Or in Skyway, sometimes the trolls get a hold of too much Superdine drug and have a rave, where they get pumped up into "Supa Trolls" and then take off for various parts of town. You can help stop the ravers. Or there is a ghost ship that sails through Talos Island or Independence Port, dropping of ghosts to fight.

For each of those zone monsters or events, you can get a badge (or multiple) for stopping them. However as I said, these aren't inherently lvl 50 things - any character who can get to them can help out.

If you're talking about 50, we should also discuss Arch-Villains. Generally they are weaker than monsters in terms of HP, but have more / more dangerous powers. Stories in the level 45-50 range (and lower) are filled with them. You'll want a good team to take them down, though if you feel like soloing you can spawn the mission on a lower setting and get "Elite Bosses" instead - still tough but soloable.

And the special 50 content is the Statesman Task Force (or Recluse Task Force for villains). Filled with Arch-Villains, it makes for a very tough challenge and you need a team of players who know what they are doing. The reward for this is a special enchancement just like the one from Hamidon.

Also since you said "epic battle" that reminds me of the PvP zones. Even without PvPing, you can go into Siren's Call and join in the huge hero / villain NPC battle. You can take on 50 enemies at a time with the help of some NPCs from your side, and it is pretty epic. This is available at level 20 if you are interested. Not too different, the 40-50 PvP zone has pillboxes you can capture for your side to help "win" the zone, but if you capture too many then AVs spawn to help out the other side.

However, I have to say that the game is still in may respects lacking in 50+ content. Things to do are completing missions that you could have done earlier but didn't (Taskforces available starting at level 10, for example), badge collecting (a reason to chase monsters and events), PvP, or just starting over on a new character. To put it another way, there is nothing in this game that you can do at 50 that you couldn't do at 45 or 46. That doesn't mean you already will have done it, but there isn't this tier of "50s only" stuff.
