RP is rather sparse in this game to tell you the truth Elora. And people, could you please stop being so bloody damn rude. She is just asking simple questions.
When I first got GW I thought certain things were funny, but just got used to them rather quickly. I don't believe they will ever give anyone the ability to wear another class's clothing in the game. At all. So asking for it now will do no good. Although they MIGHT do something like that for GW2. It would be nice and all, but they just won't do it for GW. Plus, its no use aruging anything with non-roleplayers.
But.. like I stated before, Roleplaying in GW is rather sparse. The rules for roleplaying are a bit different in each guild, although most restrict you to the current world that is shown in front of you. They don't like huge imaginations. I know, since I used to roleplay with someone that made a guild like that.
Lady_Elora, have you had a look at the armour galeries?
Also we definitely have different views on Roleplaying.
Not to fall into caricature but yes, IMO a ranger would go to a ball in leather. They live in the wilderness, they're all about beasts, twigs and so on. A necromancer would look at anything that has a pulse thinking what a nice corpse they'd make.
Thinking about it, henchmen, heroes and all of GW's storyline NPCs are terrific roleplayers.

Thanks. That does help me a little.
Again, I'm just trying to get a feel for the game so I can see if I want to play this game or not.

Oooww, this a very good topic. It doesn't belong here, but I would love to talk to you more about this.
I disagree with you both on the ranger and the necromancer.
A Ranger. While ranger are at homes with the wilderness, I don't think they would go as far as to a royal ball in leather. They would probably go in simple garbs. Common to what a peasant class during the renaissance would wear.
A Necromancer. Necromancer are very familiar with the concept of death and life. They are more into death, dying, and the afterlife. They communicate with the spirits. They probably would not even give anything with a pulse much attention. They prefer to occupier their time with the spirits and their research with cadavers.
Anyway, maybe we should open a thread where we can talk about this in more details.

Elora, have you perhaps considered looking into Hero's Journey? Still in production, but they have some very good ideas about characters and stories. Their clothing system seems perfect to me. You pick armour and clothing you like the look of, and using a sort of 'gem' system, can have it protect you as well as magical full-plate. There was a recent interview of it here at MMORPG. If you haven't, I reckon it's worth a look for any roleplayer. Especially their scaling encounter systems, and multi-choice quests. It's the clothing system that get's my interest though. Imagine being able to look like a swashbuckling pirate in a white, frilly shirt and leather jack, but being just as well protected as that knight over there in full harness and chain mail!
It's also one of the few MMOs being produced and lead by someone of the fairer sex. While it may be a generalism, I am of the belief that women often have the innate capacity to think more creatively than men.
disguise would be something dumb. it may be fun for 1 hour but not forever almost every game has class-coordinated clothes and warrior wearing a necromancer set ? umm even the body structure wont fit in there a big muscleman in a tiny necro set ? that will not go

the best disguise is secondary mains... like Necro monks, N/Mo that are actually healers, and not necros...
or Elemental Warrios (E/W) that are actually Warriors - etc...
this happens (or used to happen) alot, and used to really throw people off and confuse them, especially if you came up with a build that was worked well, as they wouldnt know what to expect or how to counter it.
What are you talking about, Korvas?! OFCOURSE women can think more creatively than men. Women THINK more than men just in that aspect, thinking all the time. Women sometimes cant even get to sleep at a reasonable hour because they are thinking.

Ever wondered what a hardcore WoW raider looked like?
