Would anyone ever loan him the kind of money needed to produce a quality MMO after Vanguard's failure? Not in a million years. He is the prime example of someone who should not be running a business and a 30 million dollar MMO without any business degree and/or executive management experience whatsoever. His days of running a company is over. Would any reputable game developer even want Brad's name associated with their product because of the stigma? He's definately hirable. Whilst he sucks at creating a MMO and Lying he is still a creative designer. His calling is a follower versus a leader. Sadly, if he cannot handle this, he should find some alternative course of work.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

If he ever goes back to Sony (highly doubtful), Sony isn't going to put him in a leadership position.
Remember, SOE is a greedy bastard. Why the hell would they bring a guy in who has a knack for screwing up a 30 million dollar budget?

YAY, a hater thread.
I dont think its your or mine or anyones bussiness to judge about Mcquad. You have not been there, nor have you been in his head while Sigil developed Vanguard. The whole problem is much more complex then just to point at Mcquaid and blaming him. If you cant get this, you obviously lack something...
Well, i dont know. If you are also a SOE hater, then you are right. Otherwise his name still *IS* connected with a game of a big reputable MMO company. Its SOE and Mcquaid is external consulter for it
How about " Vanguard 2: Revenge of the Sigil Devs! "? All the DEVS that got fired get together loan some cash make a next gen sequel with an all new vision, but this time is really hardcore! Brad gets hired as the company car park attendant.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Another guildwars ? Sure, why not. And make subscription so that only those are able to subscribe who dont have any criminal records. Still pondering why half of the blizz staff left on their own...

Actually, it has everything to do with Brad McQuaid. He ran the company into the ground by making horrible business moves during the creation of Vanguard. That isn't privy information. Anyone can look that up...even the DEVs who were fired from Sigil will account for that ...even Brad himself in his last interview 2 weeks ago.
Well, i dont know. If you are also a SOE hater, then you are right. Otherwise his name still *IS* connected with a game of a big reputable MMO company. Its SOE and Mcquaid is external consulter for it
Which is why the game is still sinking fast. 45K people in a MMO is very bad considering it's age.
Is it fun to kick people who are down ?
We're just stating the facts. Hopefully, this will be a lesson learn from other MMO companies in the future.

Despite the bad state Vanguard is in and the fate of Sigil, Vanguard's problems aren't entirely attributable to Brad's inabilities as a business executive.
If the year was permanently 1999 and WoW would never exist, I'm sure Brad as a creative director could pump out a dozen market-accepted MMOs; as buggy, incomplete and sadistic in design methodology as he'd make them.
The thing is though, despite branding Vanguard as Triple A, evolutionary, third-generation, so on and so forth; it was essentially just a first-generation MMO.
The type of design methodology Brad was adamant about in Vanguard won't fly in today's games. What Brad attempted to do was hijack terms like "meaningful travel" for example, and attempt to sell an empty, largely uninhabited water world as the platform for that. The problem with that is, a majority of the market considers "meaningful travel" as something akin to clearing up the fog of war on their map and receiving exploration experience; along with every inch of their map being populated with something.
My point is, Brad could probably have a good idea worth investing into if he first accepted that first-generation thinking is dead with the market, it will never sell again. What he attempted to do with Vanguard was antagonize all the new conventions set forth over the past seven or so years and failed miserably.
If one day Brad wakes up in 2007 rather than his perpetual existence in 1999, I could see him having a job again. I wouldn't trust him in a management role at all ever again though; he's proven completely inept at managing time and money.

Go look ingame or look at the official forums. The game sucked and still sucks most because its full of asshats. I so hope SOE will kick them out of game once servers merged. Especially those on the RP server. There is a chance this game will die, but for now i think it will improve. Design is remoddeling all NPC to improve performance. Thats a good step.

Ok, i hope next time you make a mistake you get fired and every moron on the streets is pointing at you and shouting "Dont give em a job ever again" Maybe you will learn something out of it too
I certainly don't know whether he has a future in the industry or not, I don't pretend to know enough abuot the industry in the first place to say so.
What I do know though is that I wont ever pay and or play a game that leads or is in charge of again. That being said, regardless of what I think about the person, I hope he lands on his feet. At some point and time he was actually a talented game designer.
Nobody cares about John Romero since Daikatan, i don't think anyone will ever talk of Brad Mc Quaid again after Vanguard.
It's for the best - he did EQ, it's enough for him to become a video-game legend. It's just too bad it turned him into a lying and egocentric coward.
My addiction History: >> EQ1 2000-2004 - Shaman/Bard/Wizard/Monk - nolife raid-whore >> WoW 2004-2009 + Cataclysm for 2 months - hardcore casual >> Current status : done with MMO, too old for that crap.

Businness investors won't react with the rabid and near hysterical emotionalism we are seeing on the various gaming forums. They don't care about "stigma".
They'll look at the opportunities involved and decide each case seperately.
- How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?

I would hire him in a second... ask him what we should do and do the complete opposite.

I think the fact that he waisted 30 million bucks and blamed it on everything else but him will go above and beyond some "rabid and near hsyterical emotionalisms we are seeing on the various gaming forums"
If I was a business person and looking for a team or someone I can invest my money in it is true I would probably not log onto the forums. Just the fact that He squandered SO MUCH money and had to sell the game to even break even (we dont even know that....he may have lost a lot of money in the end run..we will nevr know) and fired well over 90% of his company four months after the release of his company's first project is more than enough to skip him and look elswhere to place my money in.
Trust me....someone comes to you asking for millions, you'll do a little research on that person asking for the money. They wont go far before finding out about his (McQuaid) lack of success.
Not a troll comment. Just factual commonsense.
I mean..lemme ask you this. If you had a few million dollars and someone comes to you and ask if they can invest one million of it into their game would you blindly give it to him or would you research his successes? EQ yes. Successful. That was 10 years ago. Vanguard? Horrible. This year. Now, compound that million by 30 times.
You don't have to answer that question here. It's merely rhetorical. Just something for you to think about.
