It's one of Vista's launch titles, so  yes.

1.11 What does it mean to be a Windows Vista launch title?

Age of Conan is a Windows Vista launch title. This means that we are cooperating with Microsoft in the development of Age of Conan to make sure it takes advantage of Windows Vista, the upcoming new operating system from Microsoft. As the first online game Age of Conan will also feature DX10 support, which allows us to bring an even more detailed gameworld to the players. The game can also be played on DX9.

8gb is overkill by far, you only need 4gb of ram to run any game for the next few years I wouldn't advise getting vista just yet I have it but it's let down by the drivers for your various devices and due to this it is unstable. By the time conan comes out Vista should have a service pack out which should correct some of the issues people have with it. However you may not need to have vista to run the DX10 goodness of conan as there is a project underway which will let you run DX10 via XP and from what I have seen of it , it looks like it  could work and work well.

Theres actually a rumor that m$ has a sp3 fox xp that will let it run dx 10 if they get into legal problems. But for a gamer whats vistas advantage. ability to use more than 4gb of ram and dx 10.since the concencus is 4gb of ram is plenty, and Im running 7800gt in sli and keep most silly graphics settings down for framrate.I see DX10 atm as usless in a pvp game.80% of gamers arn't even maxing out DX9c atm.conan will not truly be a vista game, vista is supposed to be 64 bit.

I believe Halo 2 is a vista only game, but not sure if its 32 or 64 bit.

    FWIW....

Dell doesn't even OFFER Vista on it's top of the line gaming rigs.  This is because the drivers for most non-Intel devices are buggier than a 9 month old corpse.  Add to this some of what's been mentioned above about a lot of people never playing games at max graphics settings due to frame rate and wanting a speed edge for PvP and you've got enough good reasons not to bother with Vista.  Besides, most of your CURRENT games won't run under Vista, so unless you're only going to play AoC it'd be a silly waste of your hard earned $$$.  As a general rule, I never upgrade to the latest version of any M$ operating system until they've been out a year MINIMUM.  It has usually taken them that long to work out most of the kinks.  This practice of mine has kept my 1200+ users very happy during my 18 year tenure as Director of Information Services for a county wide law enforcement agency.

If you look at gateway they only sell 32bit vista.which for all practical purposes is XP.The true 64bit  vista was tying up oem tech support.people were buying a compaq and the dvd wouldnt work. Now of course as time goes on and it works with most 32 bit apps, and future 64bit apps(of which I know of none atm) ill migrate over to it.

depending on which of the 21 different versions of vista you have, all you have to do is contact M$ and they will send you a 64bit version,if you have an oem/system builder version they might charge you $30 for it.think I read it on anandtech.

You don't have your facts straight there SIckpup. 32bit Vista is not even the same animal as 32 bit XP (and is about 10% slower for DirectX9 games). Also the 64-bit VIsta will not run your 32-bit games any faster. The only real perfomance gain you will get out of a 64bit OS (and cpu) is if you want to load up on RAM.

Okay im sorry vista 32 bit is even worse, its 10% slower with dx 9 games than xp is.My sincerest apologies.

Games runs on Dx9 and Dx10 and looks awesome on both so no worries. Its been said that the game will run smoother with Vista as its been made primarily with that OS in mind.

Now then M$ are supposed to release service pack 2 for Vista end of Oct/Nov time to make things alot better - Co-incidence that AoC's release date was pushed back a bit - hmmm! Regardsless, game with still be great well into the future.

I just didn't feel like arguing at the time.Vista runs dx9 games just as fast as xp.theres just 2 caveats, they need to start, and you need 4GB of ram.
  • As one of the people who dislike Vista, I'm concerned the game won't run well on XP. I have no intention of getting Vista, some friends have it on their new rigs and I am...unimpressed; I dare say I'm concerned.

My only question is if it's geared towards dx10 how well will it work on the dx9.x systems?

    From Official FAQ.

11.5 What does it mean to be a Windows Vista launch title?

This means that we are cooperating with Microsoft in the development of Age of Conan to make sure it takes advantage of all the new gaming specific features found in Windows Vista, the upcoming new operating system from Microsoft. As the first MMO game Age of Conan will also feature DX10 support, which allows us to bring an even more detailed gameworld to the players. The game can also be played in DX9.

11.6 What are the minimum requirements to play the game?

The minimum requirements for Age of Conan have not yet been finalized. The game will be highly scalable so you can adjust the settings according to the performance of your PC.

Alot of the videos and screenshots taken are in Dx9 and the game looks great!
