SOE Is killing EQ why?

DKidDKid Member Posts: 76
I know i been searching for the everquest anniversery for a month now in alot different stores and noone is selling Everquest anymore but they got stacks and shelves of Eq2 and Vanguard.  Why they killing our game off?  It makes it hard to draw new ppl when the game is only digitaly sold online.

I found the anniversary edition at five different Gamestops close to me...  According to the folks at the store where I finally got mine, they were selling out as fast as they could get them, in.

    So, dunno.

Well the stores around me told me they was only sending them like one every week which would kill the game off in my opinion only one new person a week can experience the extrodinary world of EQ.

Our local Best Buy had the Anniversary pack and EQ2 Echoes of Faydwer (also contains all current expansions) on the BOTTOM shelf, and Vanguard was 2 shelves up at knee level. They really aren't getting prime shelving there. If you're just browsing, how hard do you look at the shelves that are down on shoe level?

I don't think that is SOE's fault. Just an observation. LoTRO had the prime, eye level shelving, with WoW and its expansion, and the preorder box for Granado Espada-- the store is likely just going with better display for the bigger sellers and the shiny new stuff people haven't played before.

thats the doing of the gamestore's parent company not SOE.  SOE has no control over how company's split up the products.  We used to get shafted on certain games because they weren't high profile enough in my home town.  But when I moved to Atlanta we got just about everything under the moon and they're owned by the same company *coughs gamestop*

I want to move to Atlanta. Or... well, anywhere that people actually get stuff. Where I live used to be rural, and now it is all overflow sprawl for Philadelphia and New Jersey. (What's up with the 50 mile commute, people?!) ... So we have all the population and none of the benefits of a metropolitan area.

The Gamestop-and-EB here don't carry EQ of any sort, 1 or 2-- they order like 3 copies, and when they are sold, that's it. In fact, they have one rack for PC games, and those are almost all RTS and FPS games. Blah. Best Buy at least has most of the MMORPGs... Walmart has Vanguard right now, but neither EQ1 or 2.

Harsh!  I live in Orlando now, but Gamestop's sort of overtaken gamestores in the south everywhere...and they all carry crap lol I don't think I've bought a game instore unless I'm doing trade ins in over a year.

No,  EQ2 and EQ1 are really different games for different people.  EQ1 is a classic.  It should live as long as the players want it to.

Opening your own video game store is completely not worth it unless you sell ALOT of other products.   A 50 dollar game nets the store 5 bucks before taxes and other bills come into effect.  I looked into it once retailers make very little off the actual game its why they push guide books and accessories so much.

The game has been on the shelves for 8 years,  I can't imagine there are  a lot of true newbies to the game.

You're not going to get away from to much sprawl here in Atlanta, unless you move out-side of the metro area.

I would rejoin EQ if they made a raid-free server(with raid loot available in another way of course, not just removal) and I am not playing a MMO!    Not that it is to ever happen, it would aggravate peoples who are raiding since 1999.

One - It's still a great MMO. People invested many years into this game and just don't want to give up because a new mmo comes out to only dissappoint.

Two - I can't say for myself that EQ isn't availible. Each everquest box set has always been ready for purchase at one of many gamestops in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Purchased Anniversery just the other day and they had plenty more on the shelves. Now for the SOE game card now that was somthing that i had to search for.

I picked up the anniversary edition at my EB no problem. Granted they only had the one, but that was more than I expected anyway. Failing that I could have gotten it from amazon/best buy. Trust me, the game is available for those that still want to play, and trust me, people still do. I started playing MMOs in pre Renn UO I've jumped into just about every MMO that's been out. Most recently EQ2, WoW, LoTR Online, etc. Honestly while they have plenty of "next gen" features they fail to hold my attention like any of the oldies did. The newer games are attempting to appeal to a mass audience and I don't know if its the communities, the way they're going about the mechanics in doing so, or both (probably both) but the newer games just don't appeal to me much. Warhammer Online looks like it will be very interesting, yet with half the WoW community eyeing it up, I don't even want to pick up the game because of how freaking terrible the community is going to make the game. I don't know why but regardless, EQ still holds the old charm, even if SoE sucks.
