AnofalyeAnofalye Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 7,433

As much as the player IN GAME are the best aspect of this game, very nice, friendly and all...

If you go to the official forum, the peoples over there, they are <mod edit>

Stay clear of the official forums and you will be happier.

The more specific they are to the game functioning, the better they are.

    • People in the technical forums are superb.
    • The ones who write or edit guides are very knowledgeable, helpful, and focused.
    • In the player questions forum the answers tend to be focused and useful though the questions show a complete laziness when it comes to the search feature
    • In the archetype forum, about 1/3 to 1/2 of the posts are about good builds or technical studies of the powersets, relevant bugs, and comparisons. The rest are pointless whining.
    • In the general chat forum, someone occasionally says something useful which you can find through the dev digest.
    • For the server forums, you couldn't pay me to spend time with those people.

I used to cancel my sub just so i couldnt post on official forum. this meant i couldnt get into any arguments with others. I also made liberal use of the 'ignore' feature. there's some ppl that post on that forum just to argue. I think more board should get the ignore feature happening.

what i really hated was that u could make a comment about something next thing you know you're getting "called out" because someone wants to fight you in Arena to settle some dispute. half the time the other party wont even show. I guess i can see why some hates pvp cause it brings out the worst out some of us.

community forums are just not a good place to post but man the official forums is a wealth of information. would be much better if they did not delete old posts tho

Regardless of what is said, ALL forums for any game have the same problem.  You can't just single out CoH.
  • AshGUTZAshGUTZ Member Posts: 339

The forums are the one things I tell people are great about this game. The community is highly supportive of new players and helping one another. Why, yesterday someone asked me to duo with them for radio's, but I told them I hadn't been playing very long. They invited me to a group and helped me a ton, for absolutely no reason. People are just as kind in the forums, just have to find them.

There are some very friendly and knowledgeable people on there that will go out of their way to help you.  Unfortunately anytime you have an environment like that it will draw in the rude and obnoxious.  The only real defense is to just ignore them and proceed like they don’t exist.  But unfortunately people just tend to add fuel to the fire.  Final Fantasy's is the worst forum I have experienced by far.
  • vajurasvajuras Member Posts: 2,860

world of warcraft forums are the worst to me. they post your main avatar, rank, class, and level. This is both a neat, awesome feature and a curse. it creates an elite atmosphere whereas if you're not level cap they're like, s t f u noob

And if you're on a PvE server talking bout PvP (cause they see your server too), they're like s t f u carebear

they remove the ability for ppl to make annoymous posts. u guys know how i love to argue. now just imagine, im a founding father of a huge WoW guild and anytime i make a post if its something ppl dont like my entire guild gets burned

CoX forums are like 10x better then most any MMO I've seen but MMORPG forums are the best. you can report an offensive poster here and they will get punished. on CoX forums, they dont ban offensive posters. I know i got modded on CoX forums a lot but never gotten banned and others made worst comments but never even got a temp suspension

For the most part, I also enjoy the CoX forums.  90% of the time you get decent forum and game veterans willing to help out with specs or slotting advice.  And frankly, a trip to the art forums there is worth the price of admission.  Very generous people willing to do ink and color portraits of your in game characters?  And half the time for absolutely nothing in return?  I think that's pretty awesome myself!

I do think it is unfair to say that Online community  is the worst, honestly if you find the right people the online community is the best, most of the time it not on the offical forums though. I love my online community its one of the reasons I have been playing the game so long, link can be found in my sig.

It really goes to which part of the CoH forums you frequent. Some are filled with trolls and negative people, some are very willing to help. I haven't been a part of many other games forums but CoH forum sometimes is a little harsh if you post anything "n00bish", makes for a very difficult new-to-the-game and new-to-the-forums exprience.

Note to all, if you found an MMO that you enjoy stay away from the forums. I thought COH/COV got nasty but when I subbed on SWG I think I located the seventh circle of hell!

All "official" forums suck, they always have. try saying anything construtive in WoW forums, it'll end up on page 5 by the afternoon (or locked due to flaming), but  a blue response will be on the 10 pages of "if you were a colour what colour would you be"

    Let's review what happen...

I was piss at something in the game, piss enought to log off, go to the official forum, log in there, write a message to explain it.  I go on the official forum and tell the peoples this was frustrating for me...  Peoples on the official forum, they start acting like hollier then thou, defending the game and saying that me, as a player am at fault.  But the point is...I am extremely unhappy about something in game.  And they bash me?

See, if something is problematic in a setting, the normal reaction is to look for approval and support from your peers.  When they trash you for not finding the game perfect and flawless...

An official forum must serve a purpose.  Is it to promote the devs ego?  If so, it is fullfilling it purpose.  Is it to promote the game?  Then it is failing when peoples rebute a problematic with such a social leak.

Link your post. I don't believe that any legitimate problem would be belittled. If you went there and just ranted about how you couldn't beat something solo, or basically didn't get your way "wah wah wah" bullshit, then cry more n00b.

  • NakedFuryNakedFury Member UncommonPosts: 411
Jspizzle this guys were saying how cool mmorpgs forums are and along come you to act the elite of the elite and insult him for explaining his problem on that games forums? your sad man.

Another place whose games forums will contain the worst collection of trolls game haters is here: www.gamefaqs.com

There people will hate a game for no reason and whenever someone comes to ask for advice for the game, like buying this game or can someone explain this feature to me, this guys will come and trash talk the game to hell.

I sometimes find that fan forums are the best, if a hater comes they ban him instantly, you can talk with normal people that are like you game lovers that just want to have a normal internet conversation explaining game features or problems.

    I agree with this 100%.

I actually think that the players on CoH are the game's greatest asset.

Try posting something like what you did on the WoW forums. It would have 10X worse what would have been done to you.

    Official forums are horrible.

Dire moderation and festering trolls. Unhelpful too. Asking for help is just a invitation for fanboy abuse. It ends when you abuse them back and the thread get locked without your requests for help every being addressed. No solutions offered. Just abuse.

I found a great little one at www.gameamp.com that I enjoyed. Nice people. In the spirit of the game. Never read a single unfriendly post there.

I agree, the CoH forums are full of whining, elitist, pathetic wackos, which is why I don't even go there anymore except to look at Dev posts and new info for the Test Server. I mean just take a look at the Tanker forums. It's a disaster, lol
  • PrumbaPrumba Member UncommonPosts: 65
Honestly I don't think they are that bad. I've posted a few times myself and I haven't had any problems.  The issue is that there is an over all feeling of elitism. *Some* of the people who have posted there since beta give off a better-than-you feeling.  Of course I've been to game forums with complete jerks so CoH is not the worst by far.
  • zethcarnzethcarn Member UncommonPosts: 1,558
yeah I honestly think WoW's community is 10 times worse.   And will remain that way for probably the next 5 years.  Maybe Warhammer will attract a bunch of immature people but I hope not.

"See, if something is problematic in a setting, the normal reaction is to look for approval and support from your peers.  When they trash you for not finding the game perfect and flawless..."

And how often would you get this if you talked to complete strangers... Just wondering.

I've been with the CoH forum's since before the game was launched... I agree that at some times it is like peeing at a electric fence... People get in your face for nothing and anything. But most of the time i find it enjoyable. Like any social setting you learn who to take serious and who to ignore... But we are a small community and sometimes the older peeps forget that not everyone knows all these small rules and inside jokes.

This tend to result in a at times less then friendly reception. But if you have a second look very often people will step up and tank some of that flack. So unless you managed somehow to come of as a complete  a..hat i have a hard time believing that you just got shoot down and had no support.

I hope you will give us a chance to prove you wrong.

This have been a good conversation
