FilePlanet Betas

First, these things piss me off.

Second, why do you have an open beta only for people who pay for a site? Whats the benefit for letting only FilePlanet subscribers in that outweighs more people trying your game?

I'm not going to buy a game if I can't try it. Even if its one I want to play.

    QFT.

All Fileplanet Betas I wanted to get into, my Free Registration there was enough to get the Keys.

What Beta you wanted to get into, where you couldn't with your Free Account? (You DID try to get a Key with a Free Acc, didn't you?)

I went there and looked, didnt see any free trial, I've looked a few times, everytime something like this happens actually.

Im going to feel like an idiot when I find it >.<

Still though, if we took out the free trialaccount, is there something enticing fileplanet offers to limit it?

    1) It's a beta and not a free trial.  The purpose of a beta is to allow for a massive amount of outside variables to affect their game so they can tune the game before release.  They have open beta as a means to simply get volume of users before release.

"Second, why do you have an open beta only for people who pay for a site?"

    2) They use file planet as a means of covering (and offsetting) the potentially huge bandwidth costs of downloading a multi-gig file required for most modern MMO's.

Then wait for the free trial so that people who actually want to provide useful testing metrics about  the game can.

It's not even a trial account.

It's more of an "Account light", as it has no time restriction. (My free Acc exists for well over 2 years now)

You can't use the Subsriber-Only Servers to download stuff from Fileplanet. You have to use semi-open Servers (only for registered users), and there are most of the time rather long cues on them (~15-45 minutes of waiting time (before the download begins) on the bit of stuff I download from Fileplanet).

Just click register, go on and on, follow the descriptions, as long as you don't enter any CC or billing information, Fileplanet can't get money from you, you don't have to put in those infos when you register for the free account.

As a publicity move it tells that the company is more interested in morchandaising than in really deploying the beta stress test itself.

But after a few betas, sadly these can nearly be considered the final product.

And in the case of asian games translations/adaptations, well, they *are* the final product even if ppl call it beta :p

    I wouldn't say so.

But can you imagine how much Servers cost, that must Provide 2GB+ big Files to Hundreds of Thousands of users simoultaneously, at a good enough rate?

By giving that over to Fileplanet, all factions win. Fileplanet gets hits, new registered users, more suybscribers, and their advertisment-partners probably will give Fileplanet more money.

The company does not need to set up extra servers for their beta testers.

In the end, all who want to play in that Beta get in either way, the company gets their Stress Test, the Users can test the Game.

You dont pay fileplanet for the betas, you pay for the insane d/l speeds on patches / demos etc. (i get in excess of 1mb / sec).

    Beta priority is just extra.
