6:30 pm pacific (9:30 pm eastern) Time,  its summer so all TV shows are reruns, this is the prime time for people to play MMO's.... But as I log on tonight and try to find a group, I find only 9 people LFG on the entire RPG Server...... I stayed on over a hour looking for some people to group with, but nadda...

As much as I want to like this game, the fact the player base has significatly shrunk after SOE took over leads me to beleive this game is officialy dead....   It's a shame because if Sigil could of finished it, it could of been a great MMO... But my personal feeling is with the lack of player base, SOE is only going to fix the major bugs, your not going to see any changes made to the game play anytime soon... I doubt we will even see more hair styles for a long time to come if ever....

I'm bummed, but $hit happens....

Guess Ill be waiting for Tabula Rasa to come out...

Don't rely on $OE to fix bugs, SWG vets gave them 3 years and all they managed to do was revamp the whole game 3 times (yes, 1 wasn't released).

I think SOE learned their lesson with SWG. Major game revamps might help slightly in the long run, but hurt tremendously in the short term. I believe SOE fully plans to fix Vanguard to the point where it can operate with only a small staff of developers and maintain a moderate subscription base, much like the situation SWG is in now.

Once it reaches that point I believe you'll see SOE begin to talk about it's next project and the majority of SOE's staff move on to focus on that. They will insist Vanguard is still a focus, and for the staff still on the project it will be, but SOE's money and attention will be elsewhere.

This sounds about right.  They will claim VG is still the focus and they might even be right.  VG will be the sole focus of a handful of developers lol.  Why would anyone in their right mind pour more money into VG?  That's like throwing money away.  From the existing players' perspective, I can fully empathize why they would want more developers and money to develop this game into what it 'could be'.  Unfortunately from a business perspective, that is just plain idiotic.

SOE won't put more money into this until it shows improvements.  These improvements can only come from the work of existing developers.  Unfortunately the same developers are still in charge so don't expect any world changing changes to go in.

Once a few AAA titles come out year end, i.e.AoC, WAR, PoTBS and such, there won't be any hope of massively growing the VG population.  I am sure there will be a few diehards.  Unfortunately, die hards can't sufficient fund a entire game.

SOE certainly did learn its lesson with SWG.  However, we'll see if SOE will take this game seriously or place it on a server shelf like they did with Matrix

I always used to wonder why mmos put so much time consuming stuff to do in the game. After all, the fewer people online, the lower the bandwidth, support, overhead, etc, no? But then I realized that the only reason people play these games, when there are so many better single player games, is because of the other people. They like grouping with them, being in guilds with them, making friends with them, competing against them - that's the glue that holds these games together. Compromise that glue in any way, and you have a dead mmo on your hands.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Get in a guild maybe?  Even Tabula Rasa will be boring if you have no one to play with.

I just payed for Station Access for a month so i could try a few things I've previously played, in addition to playing a bit of EQ2.  One of those "things" was Vanguard.  I tried playing the level 15 character I made at Vanguards launch, not one player LFG on that server, no chatter on the open channels, and in about an hour and a halfs play I only saw one other player character.  I then made a new character on a different server.  I played that character upto level 4, no one on that server LFG, no chatter and again in the time I was playing I only saw one other player character.

My reason for abandoning Vanguard originally was that it was so buggy I couldn't even tell if it was fun or not.  Well months on, the graphics are still buggy, the sound is still flat, and now there's no one to play with (that's a major problem in what's supposed to be an mmorpg).  At least I managed a couple of hours play without a crash, which I supposed is a first.  However, the game effectively appears to be dead, this is beyond the point where even server merges are going to be worthwhile.  The best thing SOE could do with VSOH right now is fix the engine and use it for a new smaller, less ambitious project, with more thought given to the mechanics of group play.

VSoH was promising, but I agree it was released too early.  Regretably, I feel it is over before it started.  $OE is not worth the time anymore.

I havent had much problem the past week or so but I've been at TK.  I put out the call and flag myself LFG and usually I'll find someone within 20 minutes.  Before this however I was trying to follow quest lines on Qalia.  Moving about neamsong and then up into Zarabadi and toward Skalwra and there was never anyone nearby.  Chat channels were empty and no response to grouping requests.  I guess Thestra is the place to be, though maybe the CIS quests are busy on Qalia, was on my way there when someone asked me to do KE which ended up being Zihurr instead and then TK.

Matrix Online was tossed over to SOE by Warner Bros as a freebie after SOE bought the DC comics MMO licensing rights. SOE didn't even want the Matrix Online and it seems neither did Warner Bros considering how crappy a game it was and still is no matter how many improvements SOE has made to it.

You can't even compare VG which is a game SOE went out on a limb to buy to the Matrix Online which is a game that was freely dumped onto SOE by Warner Bros because even WB didn't want MxO.

The Matrix Online players should be glad SOE didn't just shut down the game completely after it was thrown away by BW and considering it's abysmal launch and sub numbers.

Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

    Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:

Gorror, update the drivers for your sound card. The game sounds great.

Anyways... I know of at least 8-11 people coming back when the servers merge(myself included). Its not much.. but every bit helps.

I feel bad for people that the game CTD on. It only happened to me once when I accidentally started VG with a divx video playing (it was minimized and i forgot about it ) I run and atholon 64 3000 2ghz, 2gb ram, and a geforce 7800 GS. So I dont feel like I have an ultimate rig or anything. And my harddrive is terrible lol.

I'm not playing currently but i think i heard the CIS quest lines are broken. Ah well.. the ant mound and KE are pretty fun imo. And TK was always a blast. I cant recall how many times I got trained as a rogue trying to rescue my groups stones in that place lol.

Very true, its the people that set MMO's apart from single player games and why I have been playing only MMORPG's the past 6 years.  I've tried to go back to single player games, buying the most popular titles like Half Life 2, KOTOR, GC, NWN and several others.

They just don't hold my interest anymore.

As to VG, its biggest challenge will be getting the players to come back once they get the issues ironed out, but they'll have very strong competition with all the other new titles due out in the next year.

What are you running the GFX at? My machine is a little better than this and I can't run above balanced very well and even that's not great. I was going to play a little and see what I can do.

I AM using Vista though (I got it free from my university) but it didn't run that well on XP either if I remember.

Sad thing is if SOE developers listen to the "hardcore" crowd that initially drove this game into the ground with their ideals for forced grouping, longer travel times, less solo content and a myriad of other tedious and boring game play elements that servers will get worse and not better.    ::sighs::  Seems my pridiction was all wrong about this game.  It'll not have 300k to 500k players come this time next year...it'll be lucky to have 500 to 1000.    So much for a potentially good game to be a great game.    God I pray Fun Com is watching this train wreck and learns from it.   I am counting on Age of Conan to be a game that is fun and immersive and not some tedious task filled with frustration.

No...I still plan on giving the game another review.   Unfortunately it'll be a less then the six months I had set for a time when I would do it.  I have some traveling I must do from about July 1st on into Oct.  So I will not have time to post it during that time.   So it's coming early.

The SOE takeover is not the reason for Vanguard having a low population; the reason is because the game is crap...

    It was released to early;

    Sigil gave up too much of the promised content to keep those wanting an easier game happy;

The development team was badly managed....etc

All hail the Pixel, for it is glorious Orange!

I joined a guild when the game first came out, lots of active members at the beginning then the Guild slowly started to lose members because of people quitting the game... I left that guild and joined another one that as pretty active for couple months, but now it seems this guild is losing members also, a lot of the members havent been on for 4-5 weeks and the ones that do log on latly only stay on for maybe 30 mins then log off...

Vanguard is actually fun if you can find active people to play with, but its getting harder and harder to find people who are staying with the game, most people quit after 3-4 weeks of playing...

So you basically want to play a game that has been done already and that another compagny just copied?

I get what you are saying...  But let's just hope that VG is a different game.  If i want to solo my way to 50, i know what game to play.  And BTW, you can solo your way to 50 in VG... it's boring, but you can.

I dunno...sounds like interesting combat to me.   I play FPS games a lot and I enjoy the fast pace of them so having to click doesn't really bother me.  At least the combat in AoC looks more dynamic then the combat in Vanguard does right now.   Vanguard does have somewhat fun combat, but even it is stagnate in that all you do is basically stand toe-to-toe with a MOB and whack-on-each other until either it dies or you die.   It seems that in Age of Conan the combat is more fluid and requires proper postiioning of your character to fight well or to even hit an opponent.   I dunno if this is true or not as I have not experienced it, but from what I have read and seen in videos Age of Conan combat is just a wee bit more dynamic.   Love the their plans for archery.  Can't wait to try that out.  Looks like a lot of fun.  :)
