WWIIOL: Battleground Europe Free Special Event

Game marks anniversary with free special event

Bedford, TX, June 7th, 2007 - Playnet Inc. and Cornered Rat Software are marking the 6th anniversary of their award-winning MMOG, WWII Online: Battleground Europe (www.battleground-europe.com) with a special historically-based event.

PC gamers can create a free 7-day trial account, download the game and participate in a special historically-based event this weekend by visiting www.battleground-europe.com/bridges .

"Bridges too far and too many" is the title of the special event running all weekend on the game servers while the regular Axis vs Allied campaign takes a break.

Towards the end of the war, as the Allied forces pushed their way into Germany, much effort and conflict went into the difficult task of crossing the rivers of the region and attacking an enemy determined to deny the use of those bridges to the advancing Allied forces.

This special event is designed to simulate some of the aspects of this type of warfare experienced on both sides of the conflict at this closing stage of the war.

Battleground Europe features over 600 cities and 29,000 buildings. The zoneless map covers 350,000 Km (Over 217,000 miles) of terrain and more than 4,000,000 trees. Battles can rage for days and campaigns for weeks. The servers can support thousands of players online simultaneously.

Whether you want to be a British Sharpshooter, French tank commander or a German fighter-pilot, Battleground Europe has an assignment waiting for you. Every soldier can make a visible contribution to the final shape of the battle for western Europe!

I'd might actually play it if the controls were not so lame and were just simple.  Graphics can be updated again too and they need to make it so you can get a vehicle and get out of it when you want and go on foot.   Squad system needs to be updated and simple like planetsides or something with built in voice.  Overall the game just needs to be more simple to play not have such a high learning curve.

you mean you're not interested in the

"All new manual with over 150 pages of game documentation"

probably 50 pages dedicated to taking off and landing properly.. .*shudders* i still remember trying to turn my throttle down to 20%... during that i managed to die....  wonder if i hit someone taking off.

I'll stick to infantry which is the classic... "everyone go sniper" everytime i try it

yup played it today, and every infantry brigade i joined the "sniper" class was filled up....... very umm "realistic" *cough*

there is only like 10 sniper positions for every brigade, so of couse there are the first to go. new players pick them cause they think it will make them uber just like in every other fps. most vets dont both with them though, they look at the sniper as a novelty. 99.9% of the time ur shot from range its from an unscoped rifle.

if the game was dumbed down, then it wouldnt appeal to its current playerbase. it would just be battlefield on a larger scale.

Like my fellow 'tex' said, TEN snipers in the spawn list that if lost are gone for 4.5 hours.  Same thing with the three Tigers when we get thru our RDP cycle.  They go just as fast.  People are human, the more scarce an object - the higher the demand.

Of course, you could also select the other 400 infantry in the rifle class or the 100 in sub-machine gun class, not to mention the 50 engineers/sappers, too.

If you cut your throttle back to 20% power, is it possible you lost the needed lift to stay airborne?  If you never made it off the tarmac, you may have hit a tree, building or AI pit.  BE does not have an arcadish flight model.  Those gauges in your cockpit actually function, providing with accurate information on the status of your engine, flight speed, etc, FYI.

The UI on the game could be better, no question.  We cherish the new documentation because for so long, CRS did not develop it so it became the responsibility of the community, which has done a magnificent job of developing tools and producing instructional videos ranging from basic infantry tactics to strategic high-altitude bombing.

    *raises glass*

    To another 6 years!

    tex
