You're totally right man.. I'm right there with you, they make it out to be as if they lost a child or something, god people get over with it..
I made a post about the same, and got flamed till my head fell off.. But good thing there's someone else who's tired of the same thing as me.
You people.. SOE did not murder any of your close friend or anything, it's a game, they destroyed it? well bad for them.. go play on private servers if you feel you lost half your life because of the NGE.
Now.. I too have said it, *Puts flames suit on, and tests it on a firecamp*

The fact is that MMORPG.com is a forum where people share their opinion on different games. Some like a certain game, others don't. Why are you complaining that others are sharing their opinion about what was done to a game?
If you don't like it, don't read it. I wonder, is there someone forcing you to read what others have written? You read what you wanted to read, and ignore what you don't like. Why complain about someone else's complain/opinion on something?

Anyways, that's all I'll say to you.
You said it, share opinions, why can't you accept the fact that some people like the game in the current state. Again share opinions, they don't force you to read what's on the Current section, but they still go there to flame and bi*ch about how NGE is worse than PRE-CU. As a final state, as you said it.. share opinions, that's not what they do, what they do and been doing for about 2 years now is cry cry cry~
So here's the other answer if you're unsatisfied with the first one, Okay Forcan, you're the absolute true, you're right
Live on please, I'll take someone elses advise and not bother you anymore as you won't understand how bothersome it is for people who read MMORPG.COM forums to see SWG this SWG that.. And btw, everyone talking some much about the game promotes the game, it doesn't do what they intend to do.. Even I tried it
Please.. do not flame, if you got a nice response as the last one, I'll be more than happy to share my opinions with you..

Best regards,
Who says that we didn't accept the fact? Again, personally I never head into the SWG current section for the said reason. If people enjoy their game, good for them. I won't put them down unless they try to do it in the Vet. Refuge section and/or in general discussion (it's open for debate then...).
Like I said, there are those who would share opinions within the confine of the forum, and stay in their own side. But there are a few on each side that will venture into the other side's forum and just post their opinions and put down people who disagree with them. Those are the ones I tend to post on (still I don't do it in the current section).
I have already get on with my life now (MMO and real life). I don't play SWG now, and nor will I ever try again until the game returns to Pre-CU (which is next to impossible now..) I would just rather wait until more developers that like the sand-box style and make one that would replace SWG for me.
Something else I find it funny is that when something happens, there will be group A complaining it, and group B defending it. Later on a group C will complain about group A for not letting go, and group A and group D will complaining about group C for complaining on group A... and that's basically what happens now... in the end, all I can say is that I know it's annoying to see stuff you don't care for and don't want to know in the place you try to find new/interesting topics, but just ignore it. (I do that when I see people praising NGE in the SWG current section... ).

Now we got a point, well I've just figured you're not the kind of vet I was aiming my post at, I guess I'll just accept the fact that I never tried Pre-cu, so I do not know how the game was like except for the stories told to me.. Although I'd like to point something out, which is now not they only do the NGE sucks, pre cu servers please kind of post, but now the point out SOE's errors before pre-cu, I've seen a huge list.. so if the game was that bad, which is logic as of what they stated, why even play it or complain when they change it for something else? I don't know if you get what I mean.. anyway.. I guess I just like forums and that's why I write on them, even though sometimes I do not know the subject, I just state an opinion based on what I see on previous post, or research..
Let's just say forums aren't what they used to be.. I'll go watch some tv now, it was nice discussing with you. I'm also waiting for a nice sandbox game.
You are physically ill over people mentioning the SWG situation on a BBS, DruNk_DwArF2 ("...Well i really am SICK to my stomach..."). That's a pretty strong psychosomatic reaction to something that by your own admission is trivial. I mean, do you really expect the entire world to change just because you can't handle the situation?
Now let's say you are correct that bringing up the SWG thing serves no purpose, nothing will change, and people need to "get over it." What real harm is there in just letting this all play out as it may? Moreover, what real proof do you have that the greater good requires people to shut up about the SWG thing? Really DruNk_DwArF2, I'm dying to know, if only to be able to help you with your stomach problem.
Otherwise, I'd have to conclude that you are an utter 'tard, who has strange inclinations to troll and flame for no reasons. I mean, these interwebs aren't going to change just because DruNk_DwArF2 hates the old SWG players who didn't like what happened. Nothing will change whether they bring up SWG, or not.

Unfortunatly for you guys there was a mistake besides the NGE which was to try to make Star Wars the sandbox game that it was. It never did as well as a Star Wars MMO should have done. Instead of basing it more on an adventure along the lines of Jedi vs Sith it was a world like the SIMs where you could just live an everyday normal life. That may be great for a small niche market, but it's not what appeals to the majority. Do to this you probably wont see a game like SWG again for a while until some small developer that doesn't care that it's a niche market deciedes they want to make a world where people can just go and do whatever they want like be an average oridnary joe and not get involved in the combat at all. Thats why so many SWG fans are always complaining. No developer will copy SWG when they can make more money on a class/adventure based MMO that is centered around PvE combat and questing.
Ah, you see now, you're making the same mistake that Julio Torres, Nancy Macintyre and the rest of the SOE?LA team made.
They said to themselves, some people who play MMOGS do like large, open eneded, interactive and non-sequential gameplay but they are tiny, tiny minority of this market - and most of the real players want to play something simpler, quicker and linear. Like WoW.
WoW, for SOE and LA, was the gold standard. Millions of siubscribers all playing a beautifully rendered but essentially very limited game.
WRONG!!!!! (well, in my opinion at least). The best commercial model that SOE/:LA should have followed as being appropriate for its player base was not WoW but the OTHER wildfile MMOG success - Second Life. Here's a game that proves that there is a vast subscriber base - maybe not quote as large as WoW but certainly in the multi-millions - of slightly older, maturer people who do want open-ended ssandbox games, who do want an online world not just an online game.
And that is why so many people are still angry with SOE - because the sandbox idea that SOE dumped not only could have worked but actually does work. Just for somebody else with a little more vision.
Well, I'm not sure that Second Life as the example is a particularly good one, but OK. I'd have used the original (and still going) sandbox of UO for my example. Remember, they toyed around with upgrading it to UO2 (or X or whatever it would be), but decided why bother...the money they were continuing to make on UO was still good enough that it wasn't worth competing against itself or starting over. I'm sure that when the UO base gets low enough, it'll be time enough for a new version or a completely new game. But that still hasn't happened and EA, if nothing else, learned from EnB that if you've GOT customers enough to pay your server costs (and expansion packs, which are still coming, and graphics engine upgrades, and...) then don't antagonize them. Just leave it alone, keep the skeleton staff on hand, and keep bringing in the cash.
In fact, without having to worry about continuous content/quest/storyline updates (though, in the broadest sense, they DO do some of that with UO), it would seem to me that a sandbox-style would be the EASIEST to milk for long-term cash, since there's a whole team of folks you don't have to pay to keep it going (the content krewe). This is what I think the companies for SWG and Horizons failed to consider compared to UO and EVE. Sandbox players don't even care that much about "outdated" graphics and the like. They've made their world their own and have accepted the illusion and just want to live in it. If you've got a good base to begin with (and SWG certainly did), then it just maintains itself with minimal effort. OK, yes, SWG needed some fixing and balancing, more than UO and EVE, but that could've been addressed. I just don't think sandbox creators truly understand their player-base at ALL.
To just look at WoW-style numbers without taking into consideration that a whole LOT of variables go into the success of a game is pretty typical suit-think. And of course, as my friend always says, "There's only two things in life you can be absolutely certain of: Gravity and Greed." And Greed was what ultimately drove SOE and still does. But you can, of course, get TOO greedy, as even King Midas discovered.
-- Xix "I know what you're thinking: 'Why, oh WHY, didn't I take the BLUE pill?'"
To o/p wouldn't it be grand if every mmorpg out there did massive game play changes to their community and sold an expansion based on things not even in the new patch? Yep all mmorpgs should follow soe's example of nge.... Of course not sure how many mmorpgs would still have a decent size player base if they followed soe's example ......../sarcasm
Problem here with SOE is that they do it for love of money. They don't care what the business is as long they get THE money. That's SOE. Other game companies in game business are in this business because they want to make games and money, but SOE is here to make money only.
Hmm hmm...Well i really am SICK to my stomach about people to this day EVERY TIME SOE is mentioned i see the word SWG right after it
This is a good thing, if people are always reminded about what happend in SWG when SOE pops up then our job has been done.
i really think you veterans need to move on it's really putting me to a point that i would not like to come to this site again
If you were to leave over such a small thing, then you weren't really here for MMO's to begin with.
every single thread/topic i go to i see it,i don't get it that you can't accept the fact and move on with your life..
We have moved on with our life, we've accepted that what happend has happend but that's not to say we don't want others to be aware of what happend not so long ago. Just because something happend a certain time ago doesn't mean that it never happend at all, be it something big like ww2 or something little like SOE treating us like ATM machines.
The game was never "great" to begin with
That's funny you say that, I have yet to see a game with such a complex system that SWG had, I have yet to see a game with such a lively community that respects one another. I have yet to see such game where the freedom to do anything is emplemented in such a way it makes you feel like you're actually in the MMO. Just copies of WoW, trying to earn as much money as they can, and hoping that because their game has awesome gfx or awesome PvE it automatically qualifies for being a unique and fun experience.
and yes it is worse then it was..I played it since release on and off,yes i was disappointed with what they did to it but ugh
You are still missing the point that most of us veterans are trying to tell you, it wasn't WHAT they did but HOW they did it, when you understand our point of view please return and tell us.
...i don't go around on EVERY post SOE is mentioned and bring up Star Wars Galaxies and what they did with it
Then shame on you, shame on you! if you are going to let people pay for SOE products and end up with the hate that we have against them and their developers. If you can't do it for something like SWG, then you won't do it for something later down the track.
if you really enjoyed star wars that much you'd still be playing it so yeah cry you're self to sleep every night cause they destroyed your precious game. Now get over it Glad i finally vented that.
Oh sure yeah let's do that, let's continue getting treated like trash and being stabbed in the back on a weekly basis. Yeh, you should say that to people who get abused, "It only happend once, it's not like they're still abusing you." that will work great. I know that being abused is a very serious matter and should not really be used as a metaphor but whatever.
- Do not hate it, but instead embrace the diversity.
SOE never learned from their hundreds (yes hundreds) of other mistakes throughout the game's life span from development to launch to post launch up to the NGE.
They never listened to the feedback of the players or when times they did, they either brushed it off as players not representing the playerbase or took that feedback and implemented it in a way nobody wanted. No-one can honestly say that SOE went from bad to better because they didnt. If they did one thing extremely well it was consistant.
Massive mistakes happended time and time again from not enough testing to totally wrong direction decisions even down to failing to add polish to the updates. They were rare, buggy, incomplete and most of the time, just not what we wanted.
Bad decisions is what people who have had business with them will always refer to. Its the first thing that comes into your head. Ofcourse it is going to be discussed, its the big dominant mmo builder getting just what they deserve.
This will be my last post on this thread as i don't want to be flamed any more then i have been,I find it funny how many SWG-lovers come to defend their precious piece of trash saying how great it was before NGE and CU,I think you really need to see reality that it didn't do well to begin with...And you're really wrong when you said it was the most "complex" MMO to date, gimme a break i think you need to get around to play some more MMO's .....And for the record i'm not actually sick to my stomach it's a metaphor,And no it is about you getting over it,because you are still posting about it to this day obviously some where inside of you it's more then just warning people about SOE it's much deeper then that for you Veteran SWG players....And i must laugh at this person who said he lost a piece of his heart when the NGE/CU came out,Oh no..Wait,you're just posting to warn people about SOE..I think not..And i love the person who keeps saying to posters it's your free will to read posts that contain SWG or SOE,when it's everywhere almost impossible to avoid.I am here for MMORPG's just not to hear about SWG yet once again..And i'm also not flaming anybody nor am i troll.

It didn't do well? if it didn't do well then why do you (or claim to) see SWG vets in anger everytime you load up a new topic?. I don't see this happening for any other games, only people boasting or crying about the current state of it.
...And you're really wrong when you said it was the most "complex" MMO to date, gimme a break i think you need to get around to play some more MMO's
Um.. how does no grab you? If you can give me an example of another game that's better then preCU SWG when it comes to having a CHOICE of what you're able to do, i'll thank you.
.....And for the record i'm not actually sick to my stomach it's a metaphor,And no it is about you getting over it,because you are still posting about it to this day obviously some where inside of you it's more then just warning people about SOE it's much deeper then that for you Veteran SWG players
Another person who continues to ignore the main reason for us veterans doing this, we aren't doing it because we want preCU back, in fact it's been asked before if it were to come back would we play and most people said no. We're doing this because it's not what the game has turned into, but what SOE decided to do, they treated us like crap so now we're treating their name like crap.
Why should we accept being treated like this and force ourselves to not speak of it when a person like yourself who can barely write english with proper grammer starts to overflow with tears and start to insult us directly?
....And i must laugh at this person who said he lost a piece of his heart when the NGE/CU came out,Oh no..Wait,you're just posting to warn people about SOE
Well, if people love MMORPG's then why is this so hard to believe? if you take away what someone enjoys and loves playing, why can't that person feel a little sad or pissed off?
..I think not..And i love the person who keeps saying to posters it's your free will to read posts that contain SWG or SOE,when it's everywhere almost impossible to avoid.
It's not that it's easy to avoid, but it sure as hell is easy to ignore, just like you ignore the opinions of us veterans.
I am here for MMORPG's just not to hear about SWG yet once again..And i'm also not flaming anybody nor am i troll.
Take in what we've said about Sony and their evil ways and don't make the same mistake we did, or you could just ignore it like many other people do.
- Do not hate it, but instead embrace the diversity.
I've been buying SOE products since EQ1 and not once have they done anything to me,there is nothing to be warned about here..And it's not that i'm ignoring you're point,it's mostly because i don't give a crap and i i've never been damaged by SOE in such a severe way that i would post 2years in advance about it.
MMORPG's Under my belt:UO,EQ1,EQ2,SWG,L2,COH,COV,WoW,AC2,Shadowbane,DAOC,FFXI,GW,D&D,V:SOH,LOTR:O
Yeah my last post in this thread too. Basially if you want to buy SOE products then fair enough. Just have a little think about what their business practices have been in the past thats all. If you still want to buy them then go ahead, you may even find you love them which a lot of people do and i atleast am not going to just be a out and out SOE hater. Its just things they have done to the games they have developed in the past have made me weary of them.
End of the day: Each to their own, read what happened before, look at what they are doing now and make the call yourself. Dont let anyone else make the decision for you.

Hmm.... guess you are "laughing" at me for losing a piece of my heart when my game disappear. Well, laugh away, since I don't care about if people find it silly. I'm very sentimental toward things, and that's just who I am.
As for saying it's almost impossible to avoid, it's not impossible to avoid. You alone have the decision to whether to read/reply to other people's post (like I decided to post on what you just said... I could've NOT post and ignore what you said, but it is my decision to reply, thus I reply). So if you click to read/reply the thread, don't complain. Just don't click on the thread when you don't want to read it. I do that all the time, and I just read the few that I do read. (general discussion, developers corner, swg vet refugee, and whatever game that got my interest at the time). So don't venture into threads you don't like or want to read. It's that simple.
Im a Pre-CU SWG Vet, sorry for it, oh great Dwarf, but you are mistaken everything and more of it all...
And YES, it was the best MMO ever at the moment... and precu SWG still is, though it doesnt exist yet; we werent the hero, or sometimes we were, and YES I was adventuring all the time ~no need to linear quests~ coz I was hanging wherever I wished around and getting Adventure and Risk at my own, not in a stupidly queu'd to enter a silly instanced boss of some crappy fantasy gnomeish style. And YES, it was perfect with the sandbox, no closed classes you guess whatever they will skill spam trying to beat you (Yes, they beat you down to complete boredom).
And last but not least, Oh, we really got over it; but SOE didn't, that's why we still warn about.
SWG may have been the best game for many of you, but it was a niche market. Most new MMOs and especially one that carries the Star Wars logo will draw a lot of people for the first few months after it's released. As I mentioned before people living everyday lives in a world is a niche market. Most people don't want to live everyday lives since they already do that in the real world. The majority of people want to play a hero "which they can't do in real life" and go on adventures to defeat the bad guys. Obviously there is a market for your type of game, but as I said it's a small one and thats why there has yet to be another game like it to come out yet and why SOE is trying to make SWG into more a questing type of game now. I'm sorry you guys didn't get to keep and enjoy the game you were having so much fun playing, but unfortunatly for you it wasn't something that appealed to lots of people and SOE is a big company that wants to be first as far as money making goes.

If you don't like it, don't read it. I wonder, is there someone forcing you to read what others have written? You read what you wanted to read, and ignore what you don't like. Why complain about someone else's complain/opinion on something?
Anyways, that's all I'll say to you.
Current MMO: FFXIV:ARR
Past MMO: Way too many (P2P and F2P)
Because bitching too much about people bitching too much is what the internet was designed for in the first place.
Well, that and porn.
And cheap medication from Canada.
On-Topic
Ignore them if it bothers you. Let them complain, and let live.
If things were going well for SWG, the CU and NGE never would have happened.

Hmm you seem to have a broken arm, we'd better amputate it. We should amputate your leg too, just for good measure.

So let me get this straight...

Problem here with SOE is that they do it for love of money. They don't care what the business is as long they get THE money. That's SOE. Other game companies in game business are in this business because they want to make games and money, but SOE is here to make money only.

Do not hate it, but instead embrace the diversity.

It is a question of fangs.
