"Transformers" producer Tom DeSanto plans on bringing NCsoft and Cryptic Studio's massively multiplayer online role-playing game 'City of Heroes' to life on both the big and small screens.
According to Variety, "DeSanto sparked to the project because it offered 'one-stop shopping' for characters and plots. 'You also haven't seen a big superheroes vs. aliens movie,' he said. 'I see this as the next big superhero franchise.'"
DeSanto aims to turn 'City of Heroes' into a live-action movie, as well as a TV program.

Why can't Hollywood come up with original movies instead of basing them on things like TV shows and Video games?
Bah... it just reinforces why I hardly ever go to the movies anymore.
C
If they base any characters off of the ones I created they will be females in underwear with suggestive names.

ROFL...
It would not be as funny if it were not true. I cann see it now, they are going through all the game avatars one by one.
Ok next we have a female SH in gold leaf body paint, her name is "LovUlongTime"
An so it begins

Man I hope this isn't true.
A CoX movie would be pretty damn cheesy.
Please say this isn't true.
You mean like these women?
your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't
I'm interested to see how a super-hero TV show would do in today's market...yes, there are other superhero shows out there (Heroes), but most are aimed for kids. I'm assuming this would aim for an older audience, and would have a classic comic-book feel as opposed to the new age DRAMA approach.
It MUST be fully Rendered. No real Actors.
Video-Game Movies always failed up until now...or wait, no they didn't.
Final Fantasy Movies were are rather big success.
Now let's see:
Video-Game Movies with RL Actors fail, while FInal Fantasy, fully rendered Movies were a success.
That having said, CoH IMO makes for shorter, 30min-1hours Episodes MUCH better than for a Movie.
Simply have a pack of Heroes introduced each Episode, and a pack of Supervillains, let them fight each other, one wins, short story what happened because A or B won, end. Next episode, new Heroes, new Villains, and so on.
For Full Movies, I'd rather take more persistent Games.
WoW, for example. I mean c'mon, you can't tell me you didn't like the Render-Videos of the Warcraft Series...EVERYONE does, as much as you may hate WoW.
Or Hellgate: London. Anyone who saw the Full Introduction Trailer should understand that the basic technique, the story, the art, everything is there already. It just has to be expanded.
or even better:
Warhammer. The true Grail of IPs.
A fully rendered Movie, maybe even an epic trilogy. Story? There's war! Nothing but epic struggle for life. Survive. Huge Armies, clashing into each other, Artillery Fire on top.
The Story about a Young Soldier of the Empire, with a Sigmar Priest Adept being his best Friend.
Time goes by, both go up in Ranks, the Soldier now leads a Regiment.
Orcs appear on the horizon, a huge Waaagh!!! is marching towards the City Gates. The Empire readies it's troops, the carnage begins. But there are too many Orcs, on the brink of destruction, what else could happen? Elves appear, their Arrow Volleys wreak havoc beneath the Orcish Lines, the Empire appears to gain the upper Hand again. But then a Demonic Warpgate opens, and Chaos followers pour out, and wreck the High Elves to pieces, the morale of the Order is utterly broken. Dumb Noises of explosions are heard. Then, a swishing noise, becomign louder and louder. Orcs, in close-up looking up into the Sky which turned red, a split second before a huge Burning Boulder smashes onto the battlefield, burrowing 20 orcs beneath it. More dwarfen artillery strikes smash into the Orcs and Chaos. It's now a Tie on the Battlefield, Orcs and Chaos smashing the Crap out of the Empire and Elves, while constant Dwarfen Artillery breaks up the Orcish lines. The imperial Hero (the young soldier in the beginning) whom we learned to love during the movie fights bravely, but an Orc finally knocks him down. Critically wounded, his Friend, the Sigmar Priest appears next to him, in Slow-Motion, he sees the Hero, being struck by an Orcish Choppa, crieing "NOOOOO!" as theatralicly as possible, before he enrages in a holy fury fueled by Sigmars Might and runs amok among the Heretics.
Then the ground itself starts to shake, Soldiers of all parties stumble, get sucked into the Ground itself. And from a big Hole appear the Skaven, killing all that is left from the Carnage, pillaging the Battlefield.
The camera zooms out, while a narrator explains how this epic struggle was only one of countless wars, how it changed nothing, how useless it was.
The End.
Errr...where was I? ^_^
With Rendermovies being absolutely possible nowadays, I think it is time that more "mature" Render-Movies emerge. Not all those comical Kiddy stuff like Nemo, Madagaskar, and the first Final Fantasy...
I don't think Video-Game Movies with real Actors will ever be any success, not even Bruce Willis is cool enough to be an imperial General, not even Jessica Alba is sexy enough to be a Superheroine (okay, maybe she is ).
But I do think dark, gritty, cruel fantasy/sci-fi Rendermovies would be a great Success.
(Wasn't there rumors about a WoW Movie being made? This Movie could lead the Genre to it's success, even if every Warcraft Player only watches the Movie ONCE in a Cinema, it'll have MILLIONS of Viewers.)
BTW:
Optional Ending of the Warhammer Movie:
The camera zooms out, while a narrator explains how this epic struggle was only one of countless wars, how it changed nothing, how useless it was.
Then the Camera zooms out of the Planet very quickly, out into the Universe, keeps zooming out/rushing backwards, Planets appear in the foreground and disappear in the background within seconds, it zooms out of the Galaxy, then stops zooming out, and the loud roaring of a HUGE space Transporter is heard, shortly before he appears in the Foreground. The Camera follows the Transport-Ship as it lands on a Planet, opens it's doors, and Space Marines come swarming out, firing almost immediately afterwards as Tyranids attack the Ship.
Then a whole other Movie starts, with a Space Marine Leader as the new Hero
*Sigh* One can Dream, can't ya?
Wow Elgareth... you really want a Warhammer movie lol.

don't forget their making the Ironman movie.....
X-Men the Last Stand sucked, and Spiderman 3 shouldn't have had those 2 musical numbers and all the emo cheese.
The Fantastic Four was a good movie. I liked it. It captured the Fantastic Four and carried the comic's spirit.
Well, most of all, I want an epic, dark, cruel Fantasy Movie where multiple armies clash against each other.
And Warhammer is simply the best Fantasy Setting I ever saw, even the "good guys" have twists on them that make them almost inhuman, simply great.
(Currently am playing W40k: Dawn of War, Dark Crusade... and you gotta love the Videos about the Imperial Army, where, after a Battle Speech of a Leader, one Soldier walks up, and only says "But, Sir, ..." and BAM is directly shot in the Head. )
Also, it makes it a bit easier to include a rich lore, because there are already over 20 Years of Lore. The Art Style, the Armies, the Towns, the Landscape, all's there already.
Heck, you could use the Models from the WAR Introvideo, or from the Mark Of Chaos Videos.
Imagine how many Warhammer Fans are out there, the TT Players, the RPG Players, the Video-Game Players.
Same as a WoW Movie, only a Portion of those People have to watch the movie in the Cinema to make it a great success.
I know I would watch it.
(I already have a rough script for a Love-Romance between an Forsaken Couple in WoW, too, where the Undead become the Heroes, and the evil Humans and Druids try to kill them Inspired by the simply AWESOME style of the Undead Warlock in the WoW Render Movies...)
Sadly I don't have any skill considering Art or 3d Design, and those of my Buddies who could do it don't have the time, due to studies and so on...otherwise I'd gladly write down the Scripts I have in Mind for someone to make it
But thing is: I want it professional. It must look perfect. *Sigh*
wat would u say if i said i wanna make a show about a sponge walking around underwater? stupid idea right?
well sponge bob is real and even though its stupid because it was done right then it worked out fine
Well Aseenus, that is why there is the option "It might not be a bad idea if done right." Personally my interest in this idea is high, and I am very interested to see what comes of it and how both the movie and the tv show will turn out. Can't wait to see.

*pants heavily and then goes unconscious*.... and that's my rant for the day!
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
I don't like serial stories. I'm talking abouot shows like Heroes that drag on for an entire season, or Lost. I can't stay involved in a story that's dragged out over so many episodes, and usually once you do that it gets sort of soap opera like (at least to me) and I don't like that.
I like one shot episodes, with the occaisonal cliffhanger than might run for two, or in very rare cases 3 episodes. That was Star Trek. Each show was a one shot story. But once in a while a two part episode, not a long soap opera like heroes. Purely opinion, but that's what I like.
If they do CoH like Star Trek, cool fast one shot episodes, then GREAT! Should be a lot of fun. If it's a soap opera like Heroes, then no thanks. Save the Cheerleader! Ok for one episode. It's old now.
Since I love really bad monster movies, rubber suits and the whole shabang, I am forced to put a "hell yes" on this, no matter the outcome. I buy all the computer game movies and I just love them all. So bad, so cheesy, effects from hell and I can laugh for hours.. Love it.
So go ahead, make that movie and TV series for me! Entertain me, goshdranit!

I take offense to that, citizen, "...you don't fight destiny. No sir. And, you don't eat crackers in the bed of your future, or you get all... scratchy. "
I prefer the cartoon but the TV show was also very well done
