Of course there's no real way that WoW will put any MMO out of business, and vica versa.
Even if one game gets more players than the other... Most of the big mmorpg names like EQ2, WoW, Vanguard, Dark and Light will all be filthy rich.
My expectation is when release dates hit, EQ2 will have alot of people buying, and WoW even more... Although OVER TIME, WoW will gradually lose players because all that game is living off of is hype. It will turn out to be an SWG. It got lots of fans at the beginning, but not even a year into the game SWG is losing players by the thousands.
And the Original EQ... That game went on strong for 5 years.. I believe EQ2 will do the same thing, gradually collecting more and more customers as the months build up until eventually, EQ2 has more players than WoW does.
You're wrong rathma, EQ2 is the one that will lose players by the thousands because it's also made by SOE and will therefore suck. All EQ2 is living off of is hype as well, and the only reason EQ was as successful as it was back in the day is because it had no real competition. Now that there are lots of other great MMORPGs out there people will see that EQ2 is just hyped up boring generic fantasy while WOW has real character and real depth and everyone will flock to WOW and not bother with EQ2.

Give me a break. The reason WoW has all of this hype is because its GOOD. There's no NDA on their product so everyone that is in the beta can express how good it is.
If EQ2 is so confident in its product, why don't they lift the NDA.
And yes this is coming from someone who SoE screwed royally for 2+ years.

Haha! WoW has as much depth as a kiddie pool. And if your talking about a hyped MMORPG, you gotta be talking about WoW.
If anything, WoW is a basic MMO living off of hype... Not EQ2. EQ2 doesn't come close to a generic MMO. No other games have the same audio quality, music, voice overs, graphics, immersion, storyline, combat, and content as EQ2 does.
Once you show me something special about WoW then i will be impressed... And don't say that "Sit down and rest" technique, that's just bullshit.
I, along with alot of other gamers, are going to play WoW simply because we have been playing the series from the beginning. Ive been playing WC since i was 7 and i cant really see myself just NOT playing a WC game. Its just a part of my gaming identity, I play WC. I think it will be an excellent game, but i dont think it will be as enjoyable for someone who HASNT been playing WC as long as i have. So while it will pull alot of players, its not gonna be anything WAY out of hte ordinary.

I'll be playing both altho I have a feeling that I wont be playing WoW very long before EQ2 comes out. Once out I will definitely be playing eq2. WoW just doesn't hold my attention. I played eq for 5 years and the game is still going strong. I played DAoC for 2 years and the game is still going strong. I'll play WoW for a couple of months tops. If it's not any good or it's like people are saying "EQ clone play style" It will last the 30 days of free play then be gone. I quit EQ because of burnout. I quit DAOC because of nerfbat issues.
As far as anyone going out of business? I think the rest of this thread has about got it right. If it wasn't hurting or going out of business to begin with it probably wont due to new games.
As far as WoW domintating the market? Not in likely. Blizzard is a great company but nobody will dominate the market with their first release anymore.
WoW vs. EQII gets a whole lot of talk but everyone misses the point. This thread is the perfect example of it.

Guess what folks, SWG had hype, a "foolproof" Universe with a large fanbase and was being developed by SOE, who have made the most succesful MMORPG to date (EQ). Well they dropped the ball and the game sucked. A mindnumbing grind, lack of content and customer serveice that made me pull my hair out. And for all your BIG talk, on both sides of this argument, there is a chance that either game can suck. This is Blizzard's first shot at an MMORPG (Diablo is not a MMO, don't even start me on that) and it is tough to get it right. And we know SOE can release a pile of dung, because SWG fits that description to a T.
Get over yourselves and realize that if one of those 2 isn't great, you will be playing the other one if it is. I expect both to do well and in that case Blizzard will top out in numbers first (the whole of damn Korea will be playing it) but SOE does know how to do it right and they will get the numbers to match it. Now I just feel bad for everyone who tries to come in behind them.
