Hello everyone, Ok right now Im at the point were Im wavering between to buy or not to buy. I love the whole Middle Earth setting and the fact that it is casual but for some reason it just looks like a Lineage II clone. I hear it has pretty good quests and the graphics are not very resource heavy but still nice, but is that all the game amounts to?? How is the actual feel of gameplay?? I need some feedback from those of you who play it right now. Whats the play value?? would you say its currently worth the $50 + monthly fees?? Also does Turbine have some type of trial so I can test out the game before blowing cash on it just to find out its another WOW??(not saying WOW is bad, Im just tired of it) Thanks in advance to those of you who reply.

All in all, for me, it was worth the money and montly fees. I've extended my subscription by another month. I'm not so sure about the long term play value. That remains to be seen, since the game is still very young. But it seems very very casual, and I'm not sure how it will hold long term for someone who plays a bit more than average. If you're expecting something as hardcore as Lineage, well, this game definitely isn't.
There are no trials, but there are buddy keys with which you can play for free for 7 days. However, everyone seems to be out of those buddy keys (just look at the huge thread of people asking for a buddy key and noone answering). So good luck getting one of those.

No, this game is so far from Lineage 2 that you can't really draw any similiarites except that they are both MMORPG's.
I play Lineage 2 and LOTRO is my casual game so I can have something different.

I'm a long time MMORPG junkie and a Tolkien fan and am impressed with LotRO.
If you are a hardcore in-your-face type player who can't make a sentence without some form of the f-word...it isn't for you, but if you like PvE, a great story-line, and a mostly decent community it is easily the best out there. The community should get even better as the wowbrats seem to be less and less as time goes on....people actually answer questions without arrogance almost all of the time and I haven't seen a beggar yet.
Definitly worth the money.

well the game is actually a WoW clone but improved so much:
1.- The word is the middle earth and thats a huge pro for LOTR fans
2.- Graphics are really nice and do not require state of the art graphic boards
3.- Community is huge and growing
4.- Its pretty easy to play and have fun. Does not require long connections. and thats good for not hardcore gamers
But it has some of the WoW bad points:
1.- Community are tenagers mainly
2.- The quests system is simple as hell (kill x mobs and talk to mr Y once and again)
3.- If you are a hardcore player and you like deep contents you will not find them in LOTRO
4.- the PVP system is pretty weak atm
So, imo, if you are looking for a simple game to have fun from time to time and you like games as WoW. LOTRO is a nice alternative for a while.
if you are a hardcore player and like games as EQ2, UO, Vanguard, etc. LOTRO will be very simple for you.

The game can be played solo or in PuGs, or you join a guild to do group quests. Currently, there aren't many solo quests for the 30-40 level range, but like I said above, that'll be added with the new content update in a few days. But you aren't forced to group all the time, and you aren't forced to solo all the time either. I think it has a nice balance between solo and group quests. You just do solo quests when you only have half an hour to spare, and you save up the group quests when you a have a bit more time, or when you feel like it.
As far as LotRO being better than other games out there: can't say it is. It's simply a solid, good game, with a nice atmosphere and it's fun to play. For me, that's enough to play it at the moment.
And I don't have any buddy key left anymore, sorry

For what it is worth I also feel the average age of the players is higher than some other MMORPGs. Our guild has several families in it, I know at least 3 of the members are retired so the are over 60, a few in their 20's, really a varied spread in age groups. One of the things I enjoy so much about LoTRO is the mature player base.
I am sort of a fanboy, but at least I admit it LOL
