I loaded thje game, but couldnt get it to work. Kept saying I was missing an DLL file. Low and behold, a new directX was out that I didnt have.(Dated june2006 or something) Iupgraded my DirectX and I was in.
I walked around my apt a little, looked out the window and toggled the light a few times (O). Then hit F5 and had a free look without the window, very nice. I hit the #1 key and I was in my vehicle. Drove around then it dawned on me. Where is my apartment? Dang. I found a map online and printed it. Found my apt and made it back. Is there a way to make the map bigger in the game? That tiny little screen in the vehicle is hard to follow.
Anyways, I wanted to make some money, so I figured out how to transport a passenger. Made my first 25 cr this weekend. Sweet. My health is down to 80% from hitting curbs and couldnt figure out how to rest and get it back. I read a little and figured it out. Use Shift R. Will do that tonight.
Still on the trial, but I think I might sign up. Would love to build, mine, space travel and the such. I have a Saitek X52 stick and it works great in the car using the buttons on the stick to shift and twisting the stick to turn. The thruster control worked great. I cant wait to get into space. Navigating seems to be real tricky in space from what I read. I am an old Jumpgate player, so I am used to space mechanics. I wonder, is there a detailed gameplay on all the controls and space travel tips?
The monthly rate is very reasonable considering the depth of the game. Plus the game is free to download.
I would love to join an alliance, but I rarely see anyone in the game. I do see cars on the road, but they never move.
Its gonna take me a long time to make any money. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all

I'll try and answer some of your questions.
As far as the gps map size, the screen itself cannot be enlarged. However, you can adjust your seat with the < and > keys. Moving the seat forward will give you a little bit of a better view, but you can only scoot it forward so far. You can also zoom the map in and out with the + and - keys, but this does not change the size of the map screen. On the bright side though, once you get into a plane or space ship, you will hardly use the map.
Instead of going straight to a space vehicle, you will want to start with an A-4 plane. Once you get used to the controls of the A-4, especially taking off and landing with a full load, then you can comfortable move on to a space vehicle. The E-10s are very expensive, and most alliances won't lend them out till you have some flight time logged with the A-4. Once you master the A-4 and E-10, the car seems like child's play.
As far as space navigation goes, it is pretty tricky. The E-10 is very touchy, so a slight wrong movement can send you carreening into the planet or off into space. Waypoints become critical at this point, as they will allow you to keep the correct heading as you orbit the planet. In addition, you have to keep an eye on your fuel, because running out means you're stuck drifting, and a bad orbit will catapult you away from the planet or drag you down to the surface in a bad way. There are a couple of space flight tutorials on the Rise forums. They are a couple of outdated items, but for the most part the content is accurate.
As far as colonies go, you will probably not want to get involved with colony building until after you have had a space ship for a while. Colonies are expensive in terms of creation and maintenance, and like any business, it takes time to recoup the investment.
As far as making money, taxi missions are good for getting the hang of driving the car and learning the controls. Once you have a good feel for it, you can run cargo between the nearby colonies and Deois, but you will need to scout them out first to find out what they are buying or selling. Joining an alliance is the quickest way to make money, but trial accounts cannot join alliances.
Here is a list of active alliances. Please note, this is a partial list and only includes the alliances I have personally associated with in game. There is a full alliance list on the Rise website.
Hexis Transport - current alliance head is Thunderbirds
Junk Ore Inc. - current alliance head is Canary
Lunar54 Inc. - current alliance head is Dzii
Mineral Mountain Madness Co. - current alliance head is Rana
Swiss Orbital Flyers - current alliance head is Benjey
From what I understand, the playerbase is pretty scatterred across the world, so people are logged in at different times. Since I log in from the US, I play during the evening hours EST. Some folks I only see on weekend mornings. The playerbase is small, so the gaps in playtimes are much more noticeable than games where there are thousands of players. A car is standard issue to anyone who creates a trial account. Since the game is persistant, those cars will remain even if the player quits the game. There are mechanisms in place such as tow trucks and auctions that are cutting down the number of cars sitting on the street.
What happens if you crash or run out of gass. Also, if you get lost in space.
Is there a detailed manual?
Flying: Landing gears, flaps, brakes, etc. I dont want to get an aircraft and screw up then lose it.
I also see nothing on death. Consequences?
Sorry for all the questions, but I cant post on the main website.
thx
Fortunately, death is more of an annoyance that a tragedy. If you crash, you get the customary red screen and have to wait 20 seconds before you rejoin. If you were near a player when you crashed, the game will relocate you x number of km (don't know the actual number) away from that player when you respawn.
Just like with the car, you do not lose your plane or spaceship when you crash. Any pods you are carrying will stay with you. However, any money you had on hand and any cargo in your pods (or vehicle) is lost. The loss of cargo may break your budget if you're not careful. Depending on how spectacularly you crashed, you may have to flip over with the F3 key.
If you run out of gas, your ship or plane shuts down. If you're in a plane, you're toast, as you will fall back to the ground and crash. If you're in a spaceship, you may be in a stable enough orbit that you can get someone to fly up there and transfer fuel to your craft. In all likelyhood, you will either fall back to the planet and die or be catapulted into space. If you are stuck drifting in space far away from the planet (more than 10000km by my estimate), you may as well self destruct, because it will be tough for someone to get to you.
Stalintc is working on writing a manual, but I'm not too sure how much he is planning on covering. I heard one of the other players wrote an in depth space flight manual, but I'm not sure who wrote it, or how detailed (and current) the manual is. Also, all current aircraft/spacecraft are VTOL, but there is a non VTOL aircraft in the works called the Stratoranger.
I guess dropping all your money off at the bank it the wise thing to do.
Thanks so much for all this info!
BTW, all colony marketplaces now have an ATM, so you can access your money just about anywhere.
I can see some great ideas and thought have gone into this, but the execution, in my opinion (whose else would it be) is pretty poor. This game is basically a car-aircraft sim - but dont expect to be able to pilot more than a taxi when you begin. The sim elements itself is not that great, and I can think of better games for that combo of vehicles to play with and have more fun doing so.
