I agree with you but I think when people say this they mean most mmorpgs take up to much time to get anything done in the game but some people enjoy going at that kind of pace in a mmorpg and im glad, me I quit mmorpgs because I can feel more satisfied playing single player games while having time for everything else I might miss out on. Now im sure something will come out that will be casual like cox it was a good game but its boring otherwise id still be playing it in small amounts.

But honestly if your like me and like to spread out your activities then I highly doubt many can enjoy a game like eq2 even if it was 2 to 3 hours a night it would get very boring and probably frustrating. Maybe not even wow considering the stupid time consuming raids.

    Anyways great post friend.

while you're being selfish and playing that MMO your children are surely neglected watching the back of your head.

and im sorry but enticing your kids to play MMOs wit ya is like some kinda digital pimp lol (if you're like my friend that brainwashes his kids to act like him). I would not want my kids wasting all their youth playing games. they need to get out and play and make friends and do their homework. his son does nothing but play his games all day long

like you i guess i have done okay for myself but i have no illusion if I spend over 1 hour a day playing games I'm most likely wasting a lot of time which is why I try to stick to lightweight games that does not have grind. most often this means not playing an MMO

not to mention wives they never seem to get tired of us staring at them all night. <sigh>.

Why are you even here? Your bringing up things off topic bud, yes mmorpgs can be a problem for certain kinds of people but not everyone, like the op I doubt he plays as much as your expressing in your reply.
  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437
You really cannot make that assumption we do not know how many hours a week this guy actually works, maybe he does work from home and only has to do a few hours a day you just dont know.

    ...

yes I think watching a TV talk show with your entire family is quality time. I'm sure most any book or church will tell you its good to sit down with the family and do things together.

you sitting there playing an MMO most likely means youre neglecting your entire family lol.

now maybe playing a console game with entire family on the Nintendo Wii might be different. Thats interactive like a puzzle game. But MMOs- meh, they're known to cause many RL problems to ppl lol. I like them am a gamer but I bear no illusion im doing my family and friends such a huge favor playing them

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

Yes mmorpgs can cause major real life problems but this depends on the person and there situation, you still dont know when the op works or how many hours a day, depending on the age of your kids there going to want there play time away from the parents to, one reason its summer and they like to go outside with there friends, then the wife likes her time to so you cannot constantly be bothering your family.

Yes you need to spend a certain amount of time with them every day but I doubt kids need literally many many hours with daddy or whomever.

Look people, this thread has absolutely no other purpose besides promoting the OP's site. Don't believe everything you read on the Intarweb...

  • JupstoJupsto Member UncommonPosts: 2,075

    agree with OP.

however this message should be aimed at the rest of the world and less to the people on these forums

I am a 37 year old father of two. I own my own business (serviced base) which made me enough money to buy a house, car and I am able to start another business in another country by the end of the year. I have been around the world twice and have studied 9 different cultures (not including sub cultures) from 9 different countries. I have an education and all my little toys litter the house. I have a wife a dog a cat a car and a scooter. I run a website that I pay for and never charge to use for Dads.

I go to BBQ's, weddings, funerals, parties, pubs, dinners, sport games, walks, gym and I volunteer once a month. I also snow ski and rock climb on occasion.

Do not pass your problems on others because you do not know how to schedule your time. You need to learn how to deal with your own problems.
    Dear smartass,

    1) i'm pretty sure half of what you claim as your other "hobbies" in fact do not exist. We're on the internet after all, and i can say i cured cancer, who can verify?

    2) students shouldn't play MMOs because it wastes the time they could spend socializing and studying, but MMOs are sadly designed for them: lots of free time, no one to control it, no job to handle.

    3) old dudes like you playing MMOgs alongside ten and thousands of teenagers/young men/women are just sad people who believes that spending their free time in front of a computer collecting virtual bits of gear sitting in front of their desks and arguing on the internet is worth it

    You are sad.

    My addiction History:
    >> EQ1 2000-2004 - Shaman/Bard/Wizard/Monk - nolife raid-whore
    >> WoW 2004-2009 + Cataclysm for 2 months - hardcore casual
    >> Current status : done with MMO, too old for that crap.

  • JupstoJupsto Member UncommonPosts: 2,075

most people would consider me sad if i spend most my time on games, instead of the normal boring things normal people do such as sitting watching tv (big brother) which i see as alot sadder, tv sucks. IMO most people not playing games alot (the people who thinkt hey are cool) are pretty sad since they just watch soaps sit on park benchs getting drunk etc. "nerds" are much less sad than generic "cool" people.

contrary to other posters i think playing lots on games (parents treat me like an addict, extremly anoying) has prolly had a tole on my education. Doesn't mean my education isn't better than most peoples. got A's in my grades at 16 (gcses) even though i played waaay to much during those years and barely whent outside. doing chemistry, biology a levels, i spend most my time gaming but still manage to pass my exams by revising alot just before the exam. my teachers just know i'm lazy.

oh god MMORPG's are SO social threatening.... even though we play with billions of people from across the globe and I have found that I have got more and better friends in MMORPG's than I do in 'real life' oh woe is me!

Maybe the idiots trying to badmouth MMORPG players or telling this guy to not post this sort of thing should get a life, if I didn't have my MMORPG's I would never have met some of the friends I know now, frankly I'm starting to think some of these people don't even play MMORPG's at all, I'd rather be part of a large social group of friends that hang out every day (even if it is on the internet) than a small group of localized people who have vain and ignorant views on the outside world and only actually meet up with each other every couple of days and whine about how bored they are.

I hope I don't have to rant more MMORPG's have to be some of the most social gaming experiences ever in the market, people who think otherwise clearly just haven't played them or are out to flame.

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

    Oh and your cool?

going on a mmog internet forum to tell people mmog players are sad. teenagers always waste thier time instead of study. just the normal way is via television or msn / myspace whatever, i've already sad these ways are considered cool, but really are much sadder.

old people playing mmog's ftw, i have two uncles which play, one with his family, they are dudes. and collecting virtual stuff is FUN. people can do whatever they want to entertain themselves, peopel have different opinions on what is sad.

Blablablablabla "i spend 4 hours a day in front of my computer and i have a social life".

As for people saying its better than watching TV or whatever, yuou're so narrow minded its not even funny. There are hundreds of hobby you can practive and meet real people at.

i'll make a short list for you:

    - social dancing and solo dancing

    - acting

    - fighting sports

    - reading books and become more intelligent

Just go out some, you'll see what reality is.

I know whats wrong with me. I used to enjoy backpacking all over the world. Meeting new people and exploring strange places. Then i got a computer and my friends showed me MMOs.

Bad move from them. Now i could explore weird places and meet even weirder people.....and i didnt have to travel a inch

    But i have no regrets...yet!

I wanted to reply to the comment that this thread is advertising my site. Where exactly have I advertised my site? Oh! That’s right; my sig has a clickable banner! It is part of my evil plan. Oh, by the way, my site is free to join and I pay for the bandwidth (which my site uses a lot).

And remember! If you are a father and play MMO’s, come on over to MMODADS.COM and join! It’s free and we moderate the site multiple times a day! We are not even a month old and we are growing everyday!

(I figured, if I am going to be called a duck, I'll just be a duck)

And to clear up a statement I made about playing 4 hours a day. I never said I played 4 hours a day. In fact, I never play more than 4 hours on any given day and that is why I said 4 hours. I was shooting high. When I do play, I normally play one hour grinding, PvP or doing 2-3 quests.

    Omega3,

Thank you for sharing all your "positive" views with us.

It looks like you like to read. Might I suggest you read this book?

There's a saying that goes "I've never met a tough guy who's had to tell me he's tough." I think the same applies to this.

"I've never met someone with a social life who's had to tell me they have a social life." Not saying that your lying, but I have a hard time believing anybody who feel they need to prove themselves to a bunch of people over the interent.

Okay, well my own friends, in real life, are really the ONLY people who say I need to get out and "have a life". I'm actually a very fit kid, 115lbs 5'6". I'm failing school, mainly cause I don't care about it, I've never done drugs outside of Drinking, I get outta the house about... once a week.

I am ridiculously happy when it comes to my life, and the only people who bitch about it, are the friends in real life. I spend, easily 60+ hours playing video games, primarily MMO's. Does this mean I'm a nerd? Does this mean I'm a bad person? Personally, I think I'm incredibly easy to get along with, and I have plenty of friends both online and in real life, yet by many peoples standards, if you play MMO's you can't maintain a normal life. I play MMO's because I get bored with real life. The time I could be spending "studying" for school, instead of failing it, I spend playing MMO's, because I find it more fun. Does this mean I'm taking the harder path in life?

Personally, the only real problem I feel like I have, is my caffeine addiction. I drink roughly 10-12 cans of Pepsi/Dr. Pepper a day, on top of a 64 OZ that I usually get a day. Apparently, that is bad for me as well... however I function much better then a majority of kids my age. I am incredibly athletic, although I find many sports boring. Only sports I enjoy are fighting sports, ex: Ju Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, etc.... but instead of doing that and spending LOTS of money on that... I subscribe to MMO's. Paying to be enrolled in sports is about $100-$200 a month.... as opposed to an MMO which is about $15/mo. This allows me to feed my addiction of caffeine, be socially interactive, and fill the time game in my life that most fill with studying for school.

My first response was going to be that you're missing out on a lot of contagious diseases, but I see from your post that you still have a real life, so I'd say you're not gaming enough.

If you really want to be safe from communicable diseases, you need to eat, sleep and game.

Let your family communicate with you by pm.

Watch the latest episode of "The Guild" and other Pwnage videos from around the net--also post your own: http://PwnerTV.com

if you truly have a good life as you said you should care less about people on these forums.  just ignore the people who have no life and try to get a laugh or two out of makin fun of people on a forum about computer games.  just laugh to yourself how good your life is and how pathetic their life is.  unfortunately by postin this you have lowered yourself to their level and have instigated further retaliation. i suggest just leave it at this otherwise people will still respond negatively because some people are just jerks who have nothin else to do.

Well my friend I want to point out to you that education is important if you really want to get anywhere in the usa, now you could possibly get a hardworking job and do it for the rest of your life but you may not be very happy with it, even though your having fun now there is a term I always liked its called work hard now and play later, you wont regret it if you you have a good career and you will have the money and time to play im sure.

You may not want to take it seriously now but you should before its to late, and sunlight is important to your health have you tried just playing basketball with friends? That can be fun or go swimming its summer you dont have to sit in the house all the time, anyways if you dont take care of your health and future you will suffer trust me on that.
