Am I missing something on the official EU website?

Registered for beta the other day and thought I'd check out the web-site.  Besides the fact that the news items proclaims it to be "fully operational" when it patently isn't (slightly worrying for the future) I can't find any links to forums etc, not even greyed out ones.

Am I missing something?  I'm really really hoping the plan isn't to follow the VSOH model of distributed fan-based affiliate websites.

Iirc Warhasn't got any official forums yet. They may get some beta ones when the beta starts but other than that it might be a while before they get public forums.

Mythic has said they will not have official forums once the game goes live. They will have beta forums, though most people won't be able to see them. Only if you are in beta will you be able to visit.

I hope they never create official forums. Visit the WoW forums for an explanation of why.

Without community forums an MMO will fail.

With no ability to listen to what the community wants and for them to voice their opinions on things and game issues the game is deemed to fail.

There are community forums, and they are just that, forums ran by the community.

It's quite a bold statement to say that a game will fail if there are no official forums. It's been my experience in all of the MMOs that I have played that the official forums actually detract from the game. The official WoW forums being an example of that.

I agree partly, i don't think a mmo would fail not at this stage anyway, at this stage i believe there will most definently be a beta forum, or atleast i would hope so which is only open to beta testers atm other than that it doesnt really need a public forum, however when its released its super useful to have a fourm.

DAOC doesn't have official forums. It's up to communities to do it. DAOC has warcry and camelotherald and such..

..give a community a forum and they do to it what WOW does.. cry, flame, troll and flat out annoy.

The only game I've played with distributed non-official forums was VSOH, and in my opinion the model failed horribly.  I don't know if DAOC or any other games that use it do it better or whatever, but I still prefer official single site forums.  Yes the official forums for some games (e.g. WOW) rapidly fill up with trolls etc, but I think thisis more to do with the community that the forums themselves.  There are plenty of examples where such forums work well - e.g. EQ2, SOR.

Daoc didn't/doesn't have an official forums, and had one of the best communities out there. You don't need an official forum to communicate with the player base, besides, would you really call wow forums "communication" with player base?  Mythic had camelotherald updated with news and weekly answers to player questions (no matter how silly some of those questions were) they posted on fan sites etc.

They had a feedback form, which you could feel out and send to them with whatever problems/suggestions you had, and later in the game they would do polls when you log into a game, to see if people wanted/didn't want some things added/changed. Which works much better than looking at official forum, which most of the people playing your game don't even visit and a vocal minority can make it seem like the whole community wants something, when it may not be the case at all.

PS: if you go to warhammeralliance.com/forums you should be able to find some quotes from mark Jacobs (ceo of mythic) as to why war will not have official forums and his thoughts on the subject.
