I've heard that L2 is so screwed up by bots and it's been such a long time since release that it will be difficult to get up to date in the next few years, by which time, the levels and gear will have risen, and it will take you even more time to get to the cap with decent gear.

My question is, that if i was to start now, would I be "safe" from chinese farmers(is there a nice server) and how long would it take me to get to level cap? Is it worth starting now?

    That depends.

There are farmers on every server (just like every popular game). But with L2, there are so few instances that you just see them. I'll tell you, where I hunt there are no farmers. Well, I so rarely see them (Blazing swamp, Hindemith). At least in the area I'm in.

But to get back to your question.

    That depends.

Are you a Hardcore player who is a self starter. Yes is the right answer.

Do you require "fun quests" and grouping all the time at lower lvls?  No is the right answer.

If you can get in game and level to 20, do your first class transfer and then head on to Dion and shout for groups in order to meet people then you might have a chance. It is easier to lvl now then when the game first came out. Still, at the very high lvls you will get .01% for kill 2 mobs.

You have to be dedicated and you have to have a thick skin. Also, remember that this is an open pvp game. If you hate being pk'ed (or at least carry the anger with you) then this game is not for you.

But if you are a self starter you might have a chance. Also, be prepared because the economy is very hard. You most likley won't get all the money you need by grinding and will have to use the manor system or play the market.

    Good luck.

the lvl cap is lvl 80 now where 75 to 78 takes as long as 1 to 75 so the 78 to 80 takes forever... yere the grind is insane, and to become a Hero you gotta get a character to 76, then get a subclass for it that starts at lvl 40 and get it to 75.

but yes the game is screwed up bye bots, but its not farmer's who are the big bot problem it's the high % off the lineage2 population players who bots, since NCsoft refuses to take any actions.

check the links under here to see some poll's about what people think, you should stay away but if you really wanna play go to the Korean or some other servers then North America and European servers

All that from L2Blah, the most trustworthy site for L2.   Argh... hardly.  And yes, some probably do bot.... there are cheaters in every game.   You'll find botters mostly as farmers.

As for being hard to level.. it's actually quite easy, but that's really just a matter of opinion.  Is it easy like as in WoW... no, no where near.   Though at least through 60s, it's actually quite easy... at most taking a week to level in your 50s (and that is average-to-below-average gaming).   If you are into mass questing, then no, this game is not for you.

But, again, give the game a try for a month, you'll probably be at lvl 40 or above.  Find a good lvl'ing partner... or clan, etc.   gl

I do know that people that have been busted/banned for botting/cheating (by ncsoft or fellow clannies), etc seem to never shutup up how they hate this game.. and seem to have a tireless motive to influence others not to play, or even try the game.  Or then again, they just can't handle a hardcore game like L2.

    Have fun.

Nice, might give it a shot

    But I have more questions:

Is there alot of solo content?

If not, is it easy to get groups? Or what servers are easiest to find groups (most populated)

    What class dominates solo PvP?

What class is easiest to solo?

What class is lacking most or gets the most invites to groups as it is a sought-out class?

Which class is rated the most fun?

No. This is not that type of game. Or "yes" there are a lot of mobs to grind on. But you are not going to find a lot of cool quests that give great rewards. it's a grind game. You group or solo and go grind. You might run into enemies or people who want to keep the hutning ground and then there might be fighitng.

But if you don't mean "lots of mobs to grind on" then I reiterate my "no". There are some other thing to do truth be told, you can fish or go to the arena or craft (if you are a dwarf) or play the market. But in the end this is a pvp game that relies on heavy grinding pve

If not, is it easy to get groups? Or what servers are easiest to find groups (most populated)

It depends. If you are North American then Bartz has the larget pop. Euro then franz or Teon. As far as groups go, not really easy. You wont' find grouping buddies until you hit 20+ and go to Dion. If you can get into a clan's Academy that might help. More groups at higher levels.

    What class dominates solo PvP?
Archers, Necros, daggers (mostly archers and necros)

Spellhowlers (dark elf wiz) or necros and summoners

What class is lacking most or gets the most invites to groups as it is a sought-out class?
BD's get the most invites I believe. Most lacking? uh.. maybe temple knights or dwarves because they dont' have a lot when it comes to pvp skills

Which class is rated the most fun?
There is no realistic answer to that. Good luck.

how can the lvl 60's be esay when you get 0,02-0,03% exp from a equal lvl 1x hp mob? meaning you have to kil around 5000 mobs to lvl and the grind get's so much worse each lvl.

yes they make thoes random ban's to make it look like they care, but the game now has more botter's then people who don't bot so they wont fix the problem...

    look at this server http://www.lineage2.com/community/castlecontrol.html?server=erica

    Rune Castle

    Controlled by: UNCLAIMED

pretty dead server and a few others becoming like it, and off course ncsoft hasen't given the option to transfear your character to a new server before and probly wont in a year, or when they shut down the server.

the game isen't worth the time, when NCsoft is behind it, but give it a go if you want and check for yourself

Meh, its a great game, good pvp, good clan structures, politics etc etc. But when you create a character for your first time the bot to normal character ratio will be 1 : 40. Most good exp spots / dungeons etc (catacombs) up till 70+ will have bot trains in them, some more the others but again you will find yourself cursing at these bots/chinese players on a daily basis. The veterans in the game have grown to live with this since the game went live and some even have their own bot trains to support themselves.

Anyways, youre usually safe from farmers, they arent as aggressive as they used be since well they are afk most of the time :P

Don't worry, if you somehow become a veteran and ignore the bots, NCSOFT will end up banning you just because your a legit player.  After all they only like bots playing this game.

I bet you're one of those people who got their account banned for saying L2Walker or something (I don't play L2 but I know thats a stupid thing to say) and are just coming to make the L2 rep even worse than it, sadly, already is.

they won't ban you for just saying the word L2walker, i woulden't even imagine they ban you if you said "i use L2walker".

I petioned a gm once saying i was ebaying and useing bot programs to lvl, but it was slow and i was offering the gm 500 $ if he could boost me to lvl 7x, and all he did was linking me to the eula and saying it wasen't legal pretty funny :).

i think Rha-El got banned for talking about the new agumentations that made Red's unable to drop they weapons upon death, and his constant post about it was annoying or put em in a bad light, cause it is kinda stupid...

its a wonderful game, if u can look past the constant bots/farmers. and the essentially ruined economy. other than that i at times have the itch to go back despite this. i have a lvl 56 DA. if u have a thick skin when getting trained on occasion, or pked by lvl 7x players, then this game is good. not alot of questing. to get money u have to play the market, manor system, or hell do what i did :p dual box lol. i had a cleric to turn into a prophet later on, and my artisan drawf  on my main account with my DA :p made some good money  making DSS, and CSS and leveld pretty fast though i have a faster computer so would probably be a lot easier to dual box now than before. but got past a point it wasnt really worth it with all the problems with the economy slowly getting worse and worse. basically hung my hat up. like i said i do have the itch at times to go back.

ill admit i have yet to go into agame that has such a rich player based political clan system, open PVP, market system is stellar despite the obvious farmer/bot influence hindering the balance. an Auction house would otherwse make the economy worse. the way NCsoft enhanced the clan system is lot better from 2004 so there is massive benefits to clans, alliances.

I just watched a PvP movie of a gladiator and damn i like the movements. I would play it, but it's just the grind to a decent level would be tedious. I used to be a hardcore gamer, raiding on WoW 5 nights a week for 6+ hours a night and stuff, and when not raiding I would level toons (had 6 at cap at one ponit, all in raiding guilds and I used to juggle raiding between em ^^). But I don't play as much anymore, and I was wondering if at a casual pace if I would get to a decent stage in a relatively short time. I am slightly more hardcore than casual, and if I find it exceptionally interesting I can go for days on end playing 14-16 hours a day during holidays, everyday.

i got 3 toon's over 6x and the last 2 off em took about 2 months to reach 60, but that was with ebayed gear , and a buffbot.

i played about 6 hour's each day sometimes more sometime less, but it might have been more considering i diden have a job at the time.

it took a friend off mine 2 weeks to reach 60 useing walker 24/7 so its about 336 hours (walker has a timer for how long you used it) just to reach thoes lvl's, but even at thoes depening on class you still be pretty worthless in pvp

so as Martie said, bot if you wanna play or stay away

so as Martie said, bot if you wanna play or stay away Why would anyone promote unfair/cheating game play??    No wonder so adamant about trying to deter others from playing.   The reason why people bot or ebay is because they can't handle the hardcore-ness of the game.   In which, I would say, go play another game.

I have multiple chars in their 50s/60s and have a main 78+, and a sub in the 60s... amongst other chars 40 and below.   Never ebay, never botted.  Just have fun...

no it's because so many other people do bot and ncsoft is not addressing the problem, so more and more turn to bot...

i had sevral raid's where we where 40-60 people going for lvl 60-65 raidbosses where enemy clan's showed up with 7-9 people screwing up almost the whole raid cause they all 76 + able to 1 shoot lvl 60-65 people

your pretty ignorant considering your lvl, and i would guess you bot... off course you deny it ;) always the same, even clan member's off mine denied they botted until i mailed em screenshouts off em botting gg.

if i had to take a guess you want new people to the game, but you realize that probly no one is gonna start up in L2 with the intention to bot up straight to 78+ to the rest off the population. They's probly a higher chance someone starts up the game legal, and then get fed up with all the others cheating dus turning to it, cause it is a great game.

anyway a advice for the new people who think's ncsoft is addressing the problem, find a bot write down it's name and petition it.

Then wisper it a month/s after

Ha.. this is beginning to sound like L2Blah now... argh.   But to answer your question, no, I have never botted, or ebayed (I play for fun and for the challenge of the game -- the way it was designed to be played).    The clan I am currently in, had a member recently that was caught botting and was kicked out of the clan (clan rule - no botting... in which they prior to being caught also sad they didn't do).  After a few weeks he attempted to get back in to the clan and said he'd never do it again... our clan voted, and denied his return.  (botting is definitely looked down upon)

Personally, any game anyone plays usually wants new people to play their game... Yes, L2 has farmer issues.. so do many many other mmorpgs also.  L2 is "one-instance" (well.. for the most part).... that being said, in L2 there is more of a chance you will run into them.   Anyway, I think it's good for a wide variety of players to exist on the server -- would definitely help the academy (clan rep points).

Speaking of.. we do have several new players in our academy... in which after they graduate, they move to one of our sub clans.... if they reach lvl 75+ they have a chance to join the main clan (depending of course) -- works really well btw.  (obviously we have a trust issue, as we don't let just anyone join sub/alt/main/academy)

    the thread grows tired.

    Unfortunately these guys are right.

Unless you plan on spending the first several months of your L2 career in the company of AFK bots, and then wearing D grade into your late 50s, i suggest RMTing some adena to help you blow through the newbie levels as fast as possible.  Maybe experiement with a few classes to nail down one you feel is worth the long climb to the level cap.

I would hold off on walker at first.  And let's get something straight.

There's botting, and then there's botting.

AFK botting should not be attempted unless you really know what you're doing.  And even then you probably shouldn't be doing it.  Farmers do it on such a large scale that the rewards afford a ban here and there.

But on the other hand, running your buff bot on IG or even OOG walker is pretty safe practice.  You play your main legit as your walker-controlled buff bot follows you around and buffs, heals, assists, etc.  Respect the fact that bots are VERY easy to spot, despite what NCsoft seems to think, and you'll be fine.

Sorry but someone had to tell the OP that Santa Claus doesn't exist.

Every expansion, I come back to this game just to see if they've made an improvements, and each time I see the good changes in the game overshadowed by the ongoing negative aspects.  As a solo class, I can tell you this might as well be a single player game, considering the lack of people I see running around in the fields.  The dungeons are a different story though, and it's a good thing the population is concentrated in those places.  Thinking back on much of the community's negative reaction to the dungoens in C3 I can't help but wonder if this was predicted...   If you do decide to play this game, find a good clan to spend your time with and help each other out, there is no better advice I can give, really.
