EQ 2 Hype

m0j0m0j0 Member Posts: 38
I just wanna get some peoples oppinions on if the hype and CONSTANT opportunites to join the EQ2 Closed Beta will cause people to influence more people to buy eq2 than WOW, even if WOW really is a better game (im not saying either game is better, please don't turn this into another eq2 vs wow topic) i just am looking to get people's oppinions on whteher they think all the closed beta chances for eq2 will actually decide which game gets more hype and more players

i personally think EQ2 is doing it to show that they will have superiority over WoW, and i also think they are going to get more players because:
    1. insane looking graphics
    2. so many people will probably migrate from EQ1.
though i will probably play both, i believe EQ2 will dominate WoW

Funny part is they are making one of the biggest marketing ever if not the biggest for a mmorpg.

But this game will probably have one of the highest specs for any mmorpg present.I can imagine the  amount of new players to mmorpg having a fit when their system fails to handle EQ2.

yah, i myself just upgraded to a 9800 256 and 2 gigs of RAM, with a 3200, damn was that costly... but i got that mainly to keep up with all the gaming, but now imma save up for those new types of cards coming out, i think it has to do with video cards, and they won't be making AGP cards anymore.. so i advise everyone save up some money for these new upgrades >_< (No it's not a Rumor)

    -Processor: 1GHz or greater
    -RAM: 512 MB
-Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible. Pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 64 MB of texture memory
-Sound Card: DirectSound compatible audio hardware

Most people have that... Of course, in most videos you see have crazy graphics, because the machine they were running is probably at the reccomended specs, therefor they're able to turn up more of the graphics.

But that doesn't stop lower machines from playing.. The graphics settings should have tons of options for wether you have the minimum requirements, or you got that brand new Alienware and wanna crank up the GFX.

I assume you are talking about PCI Express here? No, it's not a rumor. But don't plan on just buying the card - you will also have to upgrade your motherboard to a pricy PCI-E board. So keep saving...

As for the availability of AGP cards, the first few PCI-E cards will only be marginally better than 8x AGP. It will take another generation before ATI and nVidia get it right. And it won't affect the supply of AGP cards in the least - just as you can still buy PCI video cards today. Don't get me wrong - I don't favor AGP. It's a hack of a hack of a hack. But as a standard, it has served it''s purpose to bridge the gap between PCI/PCI-X and PCI-E.

rathma, I *hope* you are right - and I don't want to see SoE lower the minimum specs. The system that is *required* to run the game runs about $500 these days. Still, people are bitching and whining about the specs - A P3 with a GeForce 2 is enough of a system to meet those requirements. Just look at what Blizzard wants you to have for WoW:

    800 Mhz or higher CPU.
256 Megabytes or more of RAM.
Geforce 2 Graphics Card or better.
3 Gigabytes or more of available hard drive space.
    DirectX® 9.0 or above.

Not that much of a difference - and just look at all the extra eye bling that 200Mhz, 256mb, and Vertex/Pixel shaders get you...

I'm buying a new computer this summer so i should be ok.. It's not just for EverQuest II mind you image:

     AMD 64, 3.4ghz W/ HyperThreading Technology

     2GB DDR Ram

     200 GB Hard Drive

     ATI Radeon X800 Pro

I was thinking of saving up for the PCI-E... But companies will still be making AGP for a few more years. Not everybody will be going towards PCI-E right away... So i'm sticking with AGP

The majority of the market has absolutely no clue about any form of Beta in any game. It has little bearing on the sales success of the game.

I don't mean to burst your bubble rathma, but if you are refering to the AMD 64 bit processors, none of them run at 3.4 ghz.  The AMD 64 3400 runs at 2.2Ghz and the fastest 64 bit processor out from AMD is the FX-53 which runs at 2.4Ghz.

also, what most people don't realize is that they'll have an enjoyable experience with just the recommended specs. My friend who owns the steel warrior just attended the guild summit in San Diego and got to see EQ2 on various computers. Everyone upgrading frantically needs to realize that EQ2 will bring the latest technology (yes even the 6 grand Alienware) to it's knees and spending a boatload of money won't let you run the game on it's highest quality.

I can only speak for myself, but I doubt I am in any way unique.

Of all the games I have beta tested, wich is quite a lot, I have followed all but one into retail, of my closed betas i have followed all into retail.

On the other hand I have only bought one mmorpg I did not beta test. If the game is good and a great number of people get to try it before it is released I think that will make a HUGE impact on sales. Word of mouth still is the most powerful marketing tool available, (aside from a "b-job from Shakira" competition of course, :) )

I think EQ 2 is on top as far as hype goes right now. Does that make it better then any other game...of course not, but it surely will help sales if it continues. If you don't think so, ever heard of Microsoft?  A so-so company with great marketing that trounced the competition. Before you flame away on the Microsoft thing, I only say it to prove the power of marketing, no to endorse Microsoft in any way, shape or form, so please don't start those rants image

I think SoE is certainly going about marketing EQ 2 the right way. They are marketing in ways no other gaming company has in the past and they are doing a ton of it. I can't help to think that it will get new people and probably a lot of existing MMORPGs to buy/play the game.

I know the hype with all the movies, screens, articles and what not have made people who weren't even playing MMORPG's decide to try them when it comes out and others that were banking on WoW to be "the one" to change their minds. Now I have to assume if I know people that have come to those conclusions, I must not be the only one, so SoE hype must be doing something right for the game image

If i buy a cooling system thats good for my rig i may overclock the speed though... Although it will probably shorten the processors life expectancy, i could just stick to 2.2Ghz though..

Its not the GHZ of the processor that really matters on the 64 bit processors. Its the fact its 64 bit, The bus speed and the cache. My new system comes in friday. AMD 64  3400, Matched corsair PC3200 memory, ATI 9800, And also a new case wich has as much cooling gear as it will have Components so overclocking wont be a prob.  Now to find me a serial ATA drive that i really like. FOr now i will be using a seagate ultra quiet 120 gig drive.

A FX5200 is a direct X9 compatible card.Try using that card to move in a crowded city in SWG you will just freeze lol.

And thats the mainstream card mind you.

So by them saying direct x9 compatible card is as vague as saying preston is somewhere in europe.

Personally, i am really really hyped for Everquest 2. I used to want to get UXO because i loved UO so much, and then i moved on the the crave for WoW, but then i reviewed their info and saw they dont have much class customization. And now, Everquest 2 has drawn me in. It has everything that i want, and all 4 of my other MMORPG buddies want it too.

Now heres where i thank MMORPG.com the most ever, as i won a slot in the EQ2 beta. I was hoping SO much ide get it. So what i'll do guys, is post a message in the EQ2 boards and keep everyone posted on how the game runs on my system, and almost ANYTHING anyone asks me in the post. I'm most likely going to be an Illusionist, not sure which race, but nevertheless ill keep you all updated.

    My System:

    Radeon 9000 128 mb
    1.0 GB RAM
    Pentium 4 - 2.6GHz

Thats my general specs. If i dont have enough room in my computer ill delete anything and everything in order to install EQ2 beta haha. So see you all on the EQ2 boards!

I'm not really crazy or hyped up by EQ2. The graphics looks crazy though. I don see what's the difference in gameplay with many MMORPGs now, any eq2 fan care to tell me ;).. i'm not flaming by ask that question, i'm really curious. I know the gfx looks crazy.. but.. classes, crafting. .. .. i see that in almost every game ;)..

I'm wondering if my com could take EQ2 with the highest detail with these specs :

P4 3.0 Ghz with Hyper Threading

    512 ddr ram

    radeon 9800 pro 128 mb

Well as far as the difference goes, this is how I see it. EQ 2 is tailored to mostly single groups for doing most of the content. That alone is a big winner in my book.

The voice overs (from what I have see in the EQ 2 movies) I think will make for that much more immersion. I mean anything that gets you "into" the game more has to be good in my opinion.

On top of the voice-overs, the NPC actually HAIL  you and speak to you as you go by them if they have a quest for you. No more talking to every person you see 100 times trying to remember who needs you for what.

The crafting, fighting and everything is suppose to be more involved and in crafting's case animated. Crafting in all other MMORPG is a click and see the outcome thing. In EQ 2 you actually have to partake in the process to make a good outcome with timing certain things (no real info, but general was given on this) in order for a process to work, semi-work, fail, or be extremeley good. The crafting stations are now animated, big plus in my book. And supposedly I think I read you can actually hurt (maybe kill?) yourself by crafting. I think I read and example is burning yourself up with a forge, which of course is suppose to have a cool animation.

I guess the big sellers for me are less people needed to accomplish 90 percent of the content and the fact that the content is being very geared toward immersing the player into the MMORPG. Those are pretty key elements for me image

I am sure you will get the NDA when SoE sends you the info on the beta account. Most companies make you sign the NDA by hand or via the web somehow before giving you access to the beta. At least this has been my experience with betas.
