I was so stupid to sign up for a trial account for this game - but after just minutes of playing I was tired of the Halflife1 pre-steam graphics.

So I never connected again. Unfortunately for me, I didnt cancel my subscription right away. When I got around to do it, it was 11 days after I signed up and therefore they billed me €24.95 !

I contacted their support asking if it was possible to refund the money, because I only connected to their game service once, and never connected in the time after my trial (some 13 hours after my trial ran out). Their answer - No.

On top of that, the email provided in the confirmation mail you get when they bill you, does not work - so even if you act fast, you will just get a bounce mail back. I had to go to their website to find an email that worked.

So they run a old, and apparently empty MMO where they get their money from people that try out the game. Dont sign up for a trial - its not worth it, even if you do cancel in time.

You only have to blame yourself if you forgot to cancel your subscription in time. No excuses.

Oh, and by the way, Neocron is such a complex game that can't be judged after "few minutes of play": play it for about 3/6 months and then you'll be able to make a decision.

I'd love to give it a try, but the morons who run the Web site have linked the German version of PayPal to the English account registration.

I would at some point have said something like "give them a break", but I was with Neocron from the betatester days, and then all the way until they decided to shut it down and make it Neocron 2, which by the way was promised to be released as a free expansion for Neocron, but they turned around and decided to call it Neocron 2 and re-release the whole game instead. By then I was sick and tired of both the grinding and the players. The community was not the best by then. Newbies were used for target practice, Role Players had been griefed to hell and beyond, and left the game (at least the ones I knew, who really put effort into it and were much liked by many).

Reakktor have ALWAYS had payment issues. They customer service could have been worse, though. Whenever I needed to get in touch with them, they usually did not take long to get back to me.

What made me quit NC for good, was them re-opening two of my old accounts without telling me, charge the money and when I noticed what had happened, they acted like it was all my doing. I can understand how the person I was talking to, did not belive it was their flawed system, but something (or somebody) re-opened my old accounts. I never, ever share usernames and passwords with anybody for anything registered in my name.

Neocron was a great game. It had great cyberpunk atmosphere, and I had so many laughs with friends in there.

    I remember..

    - Running around in Pepper Park teasing the Snoop-wannabe gangs in there with friends, driving them mad..

    - Getting killed by the same gangs if we didn't make it out on the other end, still laughing our asses off while we popped our implants back in.

    - Getting drunk on virtual beer and throwing it around in the streets inviting everybody else to get drunk with us.

    - Popping so many drugs during an intense PvP fight, the aftershock made us lose all control and go blind for a while.

    - Hunting Warbots and other funny things out in the dangerous wastelands.

    - Outpost wars! That was so intense, a lot of action going on.

    - The apartments in Neocron must be the coolest thing in a sci-fi MMO so far. They are so nice; You get you own computer terminal which lets you read and submit mail to other players, discuss topics in a in-game forum (!), they even have a door bell so that friends visiting you can ring it to let you know they have arrived.

    - Being raped by someone who snuck up after you to your own apartment (after that happening a few times, I always turned around with my main gun loaded and ready as I backed up to the apartment door after leaving the elevator, just in case somebody followed me).

    - Building 5 slot uber guns for customers and hearing "OMG I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU!!" :D

Sweet memories indeed.. only too bad Neocron has many downsides as well. I could return with one of my old accounts, with a high level spy character, but I prefer to keep the good memories (the bad ones I have forgotten on purpose, pushed away into oblivion).

AfterWorld seems to be something like it, but it is only Alpha yet, so it'll be years for them to finish it.

Try out the Neocron demo, just remember to cancel the subscription if you do not like it. And it goes for Neocron as it does every other MMOFPS / MMORPG game out there: You simply cannot judge a game's qualities after a short period of playing it. Usually it takes at least a couple of days, maybe even a week or couple of weeks, then it might start growing on you.

very well said sundiver. much more complex game then say WoW for example.

i played necron in the nc1 days for many many hours of my life. all the bugs aside, what a great game. it had almost all the elements i wish for in an mmo.

if you are expecting this game to start out or even remotely resemble WoW, EQ, FF, then you will be lost, adn very dissapointed.

liek sundiver said, you need to play this game for a few weeks before you really "know the ropes" and can appreciate it.

that being said, the population now is most of the time non-existant, so i'd say its hard to enjoy now.

if only some company will make another game like this someday, and that it actually gets marketed to a wide audience.

I don't agree with trials that auto-bill you when they expire. I like trials that disconnect, and wait for you to decide your payment arrangements.  And a game that reactivates you accounts without your knowledge? That's a serious issue. Someone in billing has a messed up greed philosophy. No way are they messing with my money. I'll keep getting my Sci-Fi kicks in AO.

    AO - Rimor - 43 Solitus Soldier
Played - UO AC1 AC2 SWG SB PS DAoC Eve GW EQ2 WoW
