Well, I have to say I'm quite curious to find out how this game turns out. Yes, it's SOE, and yes, I'm highly skeptical of them when they do anything regarding MMOGs, but dang this new genre and playstyle does sound REALLY cool. *crossing my fingers!*
Show me. Not a soe hater or a fan, but after trying a good number of their games, and with the announcement of ps3 platform , this sounds like another one of their attempts to simply throw something together for the coin. Yes, it is all about the coin, but I would like to see a game come out that the devs made a few decisions based on quality of game play rather than time sinks and what we can do to make it easy enough for everyone to play it.
What if it is a re-skinned MXO with potentially better developed story arcs/missions and other improvements? People really aren't complaining about mages having fireballs and elves shooting arrows that much since LotRO is doing decently and we all know how many times that has been done before. I know, everyone complains about "the same old thing" and I'm a proponent of new design elements but be reasonable and give it a chance. Besides, considering how few have played MXO, even if it is a rehash done better, most people won't know ( ' ;

"Hello person posting on a site specifically for MMO's in a thread on a sub forum specifically for a particular game talking about meta features and making comparisons to other titles in the genre, and their meta features.
So let me get this straight. Instead of working on the numerous low subscription (really in need of help) games they have, they are going to add yet another one? Damn I really feel bad for people playing their other MMO's. It doesn't look like they are going to be ressurrected now.
I can not wait for the Agency! I think that SOE will do a wonderful job on it! They have the know how to make a great online game, just like everquest, Take Everquest, take the best of WOW mix them and vola! a great game. Sony wants to sell a lot of PS3, by the way a very good console that can use a mouse and a keyboard both wired and wireless.
SOE can do great games and they will, lets see a PS3 with a 60 gig hard drive and most likey a version with a larger hard drive. Sony does not need a PC or Mac version yet! Let them build a PS3 platform then add PC and Mac users to make the world larger. I have had a PS3 system for the last 6 months and love the system, very powerful and love the HD on it.
SOE just needs to create a very engaging world and people will buy PS3 systems and build a very online world that I think will chalence Blizzard for online leadership. I think everyone forgets sometime how sucessful SOE made everquest, way before Blizzard copied them and made a lot of money. SOE just needs to remember their roots of MMORPG and get it right from the start.

You can only do so much for a low subscription game though -- history has essentially proven that critical mass is achieved at launch. If you have a great launch, you'll build and then eventually taper off. If you have a very bad launch, the developer is up the creek. Games just don't recover and thus investment in maintaining/improving an old game has to be weighed against the potential of a new game.

I applaud your enthusiasm and the game has lots of potential but SOE's track record isn't that good--we can only hope they'll do it right!

Ok...just have to fiddle with the fine tuning a bit....ah, now I'm getting some pictures.
I see...I see.....a lame arse mission grind game with a spy theme:
Imagine your first mission. Go to the headquarters of the evil ______ consortium and collect five passports from their operatives. Return them to the quest...uh...mission giver for your reward.
Now imagine a high level mission. Go to the headquarters of the extra evil _____ syndicate in Lithuania and collect 20 stolen schematics for advanced military electronics devices. Return to mission giver for your reward.
Weeeeee.
Blah, can someone tell me why I should be excited? Because it has a modern day setting? Screw that. If the basic gameplay is the some old crap it's going to seem even more ridiculous than it would in a fantasy mmorpg.
I think the only way a game like this could be really great is if it were mostly PvP. Not necessarily constant running gun battles with other players but maybe some spy-versus-spy stuff. Foiling each others missions and so on. It would take a lot of creativity and some outside the box thinking to pull that off well but if they take the easy route and go with the standard sort of gameplay it's going to be pretty pathetic.
From my search on the web there are two spy-themed MMO's that look decent, the first is as stated "The Agency" created by SOE. Then there is "Global Agenda" created by Hi-Rez studios. This game is gonna rock! I'm hoping for a Jason Bourne type of game rather than a James Bond type...
Actually a Splinter Cell + Bourne Identity MMOG would be the ultimate.
