Actually, when I initially signed up I chose the lifetime payment plan. I happened to look at my account a few weeks later and noticed I still had an option to switch over to monthly before I reached the end of my first free sub month that came with the retail purchase so I went ahead and flipped it to the $9.99/mo plan.
Guess it was a good decision, because I haven't really logged in to LoTRO in the past few weeks, been focusing all my game time on EVE. Keeping the LoTRO account for a few months to see if my interest rekindles when the expansion comes out.

I bought the CE. All in all I'm quite pleased with my choice. But sometimes I don't really feel motivated to play the game, neither is the game THAT good. But I do like the thought that I can return to a full fletched mmo game any day I want without having to worry about reactivating anything.
I agree with the above poster, it isnt that much of a good game, compared to others there are few innovative features, yes there is the beautiful landscapes and the little fun things like the music system and the game does seem remarkably polished.
Im currently in the lvl 30's in the quest lull, this will be fixed in evendim but still im not sure i will play too much after that, simply because the game despite the fact that its tolkein is a bit samey, there is little motivating me to reach max level either, yes eendim promises raid "epic gear" but do i really want that WoW esque approach to end game?
Monster play is a good distraction but that cant hold my interest at this current stage, maybe when there are more max levels it will be more fun, and when they give the monsters more skills and features.
I went for the 6month option so i dont feel as bad as i imagine you lifers would.

Opposite for me. :-) I was playing EVE when I got my Closed Beta invite. Kept the EVE account for 3 months after I started LotR CB, but just didn't play. My approach with LotR changed with Open Beta, after all the previous wipes in CB, taking my time now and not rushing to end content. Only playing 3 toons on one server, but it's a nice enough mix of class/crafting to keep me happy for some time to come. Happy with my "Lifetime Sub".
I'm loving the game and wish I would've taken advantage of the Lifetime offer

Being a more casual player rather than a ‘leet’ player who just shoots through the game to get THROUGH it, I enjoy the game a great deal. I’m really glad I went with Lifetime cuz I can play relaxed with friends rather than rush and worry if I’m getting my money’s worth. I enjoy constant Role Playing interaction on Landroval which of course slows gameplay down, but once again, that’s what I enjoy so it works for me… especially since this is the first mmoRPG where the ‘RP’ seemed to exist in an obvious way.
Also, Turbine was smart and developed a very rock solid base, and can only build from here. The game will get better in time with more features and all that jazz… much better than what sadly happened to Vanguard.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.
I feel good about my lifetime subscriptions. Being free of the monthly charge, I feel no need to rush in the game.
I totally feel the same way. When I play the game I am always in chill mode because I know it will always be there. No need to rush to get the most out of my money. My vid card broke and I couldn't play the game for 2 weeks and it didn't bother me at all. I was like oh well I got my whole life to finish this.
Also this will allow me to try other games like WAR and AoC and if they are bombs I just come back to LotRO. If I happen to like one of those I can subscibe to that for a little bit and if I get burned out I can always come back to LotRO.
To be completely honest if every MMO had a lifetime offer I would probably own more MMO's.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
Yes I am still pleased with my decision to be a lifer. I can easily see me playing this game for at least 2 years and probably even longer as it looks as if Turbine is fulfilling their promise to keep adding content like they are this week. I plan on trying AoC and WAR when they release, but if they do end up being smelly heaps I still have LOTRO as a main game for a long time to come

I agree. This game have a great potential and every day Turbine is focused in new updates for us the "players"
Totally happy ! if more Mmo's did this it would be so cool you could then just dip your toes in whenever you feel like, it removes the pressure to play feeling you have when you have a normal subscription IMO. Plus its a truly wonderful game !
I can't vote in your poll, because I can't say I love the game, but the lifetime membership should prove to be a good deal in the long-term, especially as the game develops and progresses. I understand $200 is 20 months at $10 per month, but I can see this game lasting indefinately if developed properly and upgraded along the way as necessary.
If a high enough percentage of players actually use it, it could become problematic for the Game's development later on.
What I mean is: Yeah, through all those 200$ Dollar boughts, they currently swim in Money, can create expansions with it and whatnot. But on the other side, there isn't as much monthly income.
And at some point, the inital 200$-sea of money will be dried out, and the Devs then are left with the smaller monthly income, while they still have to provide enough stuff for the larger playerbase.
I am a lifer and love the game. I think there will be new content for a while yet and who knows what will happen down the road. I am happy not to be playing monthly. In the fall another turbine product is supposed to hit the shelves: DDO, forsaken lands. I hope it offers a lifetime option as well. I am a casual player and enjoy not having to worry if I am getting my money's worth.

If Turbine has no economic sense whatsoever this might apply. But I highly doubt it.
Non-issue I highly doubt a large enough percentage of players are buying life time for this to be a problem. 200$ is alot of money for a game that will get boring in 2 months. Plus you'll still have to buy expansions.
I loved LOTR movies and books but i think ill pass on this game for now. Waiting for Conan and WAR at this point.
I got Lifetime in Euro servers. Love the lore, game is quite good and thought with Lifetime membership I could have lotro as my secondary mmo if something else comes up later that I would like more.
My only issue is that I have been having long days at work lately and don't get to enjoy it that much.
I have the life time and do not regert it one bit! $200 is not that much for a life time game. Think for a moment, the average p2p mmo is about $15 a month. That means that the $200 you are paying for 13.3 months! That is not expansive for an mmo. In fact that is down right cheap. Do you realize how much you put into other mmos? I personally have played FFXI for 3 years and when I stopped have nothing to show for it (can't keep the characters after 3 months). I played WoW for about 2 years and spent a whole lot of money on it. And if ever I wanted to play again would have to pay again, and would have to spend a whole lot more. With LotRO I don't have any of those problems. I can take my time playing. Not feel rushed to play, which really makes the game more enjoyable. I can enjoy the fellowship with other players. I can enjoy the scenery and smoke a pipe in the game. I can just hang out and listen to some one playing a musical instrument and just enjoy living in this world. I don't worry about missing my HBO series anymore, because I might miss something big happening and I won't have another chance to do it till much later in the year. lol. I do not regert a life time membership at all, if fact, I'm thankful for it! It makes my life easier!

I expect if they have lots of lifers, 2 years from now, Turbine will start to charge for expansions every 3 months to keep the money rolling in.

they've never charged a penny for DDO's expansions so i highly doubt they will with LOTR unless its a HUGE expansion (eq style expansion) and even then I'm hard pressed to see it happening.

Did the 9 99 plan and was glad i did it . I as well took a few weeks break didn't miss it but have no plans to drop it. I am taking leveling very slowly ( no need to rush) only recently got 21 ish.

I really doubt this would ever be an issue. Since the lifetime subscriptions were only available for pre-order customers, and only a percentage of those pre-order customers went with that option, the only way this could conceivably harm Turbine would be if no one bought the game after launch. If this were the case, the game would have larger problems two years down the road than how many people gave them $200 before the doors even opened. As it is, I think the limited number of lifetime subscriptions they sold probably helped cover their development costs (and thereby pacified investors) by giving them an immediate influx of cash.
EDIT: On the topic, though, I'm glad I bought the lifetime package. I'm still playing quite a bit, but even if I get a bit bored of the game in the future, I like knowing I can go back whenever I want to without any fuss. I like the security of it. As long as my computer doesn't blow up, I know I'll always have something to do. It feels more like I own the game than it does renting it/subscribing to it, and I really enjoy that.
I'm still really enjoying the game, started a kinship, but taking things more slowly than I have in the past with other online games. Not only am I haveing fun right now, but I'm lookng forward to everything that Turbine is going to put into the game. When they said that they were going to do major content updates every two months, that was really reassuring to see. I think I'll be kept busy for a long time yet.
Got the lifetime plan and love it. I also have taken my time in playing, and just got back from a 2 week vacation where I was not able to play much at all, and don't feel bad about it one bit. I raced through the levels in Beta, read very few quest dialogs, and after every wipe I was in an even bigger hurry to get back to where I was before the wipe. Now I take my time and actually read every quest. They are quite nice in fact. The game will keep me interested for a very long time to come.
And like most of the other posters, if I decide to take a break from it, there is nothing to pay to restart playing again, unless there has been an expansion released, but we have to buy those anyway.
