DirectX 10 Question...

DeaconXDeaconX Member UncommonPosts: 3,062

So this is supposed to be a pretty major 'hotness' update... and you can download it now from Microsoft.  I know Windows Live comes with DX10 so some people have been playing LotRO with DX10 already... so I'm wondering if anyone has any screens of their DX10 LotRO... what the difference really is... and if I download it how much of a difference it would really make.  Basically, is it worth the download?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

LoTRo has support for DX10?  I wasnt even aware of this.  Not that it matters for me as I have a 7950GX2 and XP, missing two rather important pieces :)

What's windows live? LOTRO isn't a DX10 game. The difference in dx10 is it uses the next shader model version 4.0 instead of 3.0.

    Please elaborate?

If you think getting DirectX 10 will automatically convert a DirectX 9 game to utilize the 'new stuff' you are wrong. To my knowledge LOTRO isn't DirectX10 capable.

Err I meant Windows Vista... DUH.  Sorry about that lol.  I thought LotRO had DX10 support but I guess not!  I know Age of Conan they talk about it all the time... ah well I guess there's not really any point in it then.

Shader model 4.0 instead of 3.0 among other things. Look it up on the web. I admit I'm too tired and lazy at the moment to find the proper

    sources to cite.

Would be nice to see an official release note or something to know for sure.

Hope it actually offer DX10 support, but i hardly doubt it.

No Lotro has no Direct X 10 support. I runs on Vista of course, but it doesn't take use of Direct X 10. This is the old Direct X 9. And it will stay Direct X 9 for a long, long time.

Mattlow: Are there any plans on making a Direct X 10 client available?

Jeffrey Steefel: We're definitely going to support DirectX 10 when the time is right. It's just a question of when. We've already done quite a fair amount of work on it and we'll be talking about that more when we know exactly when we know exactly when that's going to happen. It's definitely something we're focused on and it's definitely something our graphic engineers have already spent a fair amount of time looking at. It's just something we felt we didn't want to rush for launch.

  • There are currently no commercial games except for a couple of demos out that use DX10 that I have ever heard of.

    WHOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!.

Nice piece of info!. Now we know that rather than a "maybe", they are actually working on it. Glad to see DX10 capabilities in the future of this game! hell yeah.

I know it's just shaders... so I suppose it'd be way too wishful that they make their character models... less... bland and disproportiante and more like the ones in the intro movie and the ads which make people think the characters actually look that way, which they do not

Ther's a couple of videos showing waht u can do with DX10, so is not only shaders. Ther's quite some aspects of DX10 that a game will benefit from. It's just a matter of time and patience.

And well model are not awefull, i insist try running the game in the highest texture option and u'll see some major changes. Ther's also a post around here with model screenies taken that does have nothing to envy from a FPS game. Check that out.

I actually play on the 'Ultra High' settings... the best possible one... and it's just the body shapes and limited facial customization that gets to me.  All human males are block-jawed... i.e. Not like my jaw line lol.  I'm a bit vain and love to recreate myself in character customization... but the closest I could find is http://www.darkecounsel.com/ayden.htm

Still a big square jaw... I have to play an elf to get a jawline like mine? Boo.  I'd honestly recreate my character is creation became more robust with options.  I really think MMO's need to stop slacking with this and give massive amounts of customization options akin to SWG, City of Heroes, and Oblivion even though it wasn't an MMO.  Age of Conan looks to be doing exactly what it should be like.

I get ur point, yeah game needs a bit more of model customization, i thougth u were reffering to the textures of the models.

Look at the brigthside, the game is "new" and u'll be there in every improvement they made, cross your fingers and post on official forums, maybe your need will be resolved soon.
