From what I've read on these forums, Roma Victor is, but the game is quite desolate and the game itself still needs a lot of work.

    so...

    I think it's stupid...

There's a few that I can think of.  Ryzom had been reported as being "similar" to SWG at one time, but I've not played it and cannot give direct feedback on it.  Those who play it will say it *is* much like a sandbox environment.  Then there's EVE Online, hyper-capitalist player controled market and economy in a zero-sum PvP environment, that's as close to a sandbox as you'll find now days; avoid tinfoil-hat nay sayers.

EVE requires a complete paradigm shift in your though process to play it.  Many complain that it's too cerebral and confusing and others fail to understand the mechanics. It is one game that's so simple on the surface that "noobs" fail to see the depth of the game's mechanics.

EVE is very politcal and will make you think you're playing the old pen & paper game Lumanati.

p.s. You are not a ship, always pay your insurance and never close the Local channel.

Although not a Star Wars game or even a scifi game this definately "looks" to be a sandbox game. http://www.darkfallonline.com/

Areae.net (Raph Koster -- SWG, pre-CU and I believe Ultima Online) is working on something but hasn't given many details about the project.  There is also a game based on Firefly (some sci-fi TV show that I never watched) that I'm keeping an eye on.  It is suppose to be the first game coming out to use Multiverse.

Eve is boring after the 2391'st npc mission you do.

PvP is awesome but you go broke and end up grinding isk all the time since the insurance covers 1% of your tech II ship cost. Being in an alliance is the suck. Not being in one sucks. Everyone takes this game way too seriously.

That's eve. I reached the end game, and it's nothing but a grind, unless you want to continually piss off your fleet commander by flying inexpensive tech I ships. I'd rather pull my toenails out than npc in 0.0 for one more minute. My accounts are still active but I'm contemplating selling them.

Eve is certainly the coolest screensaver of all time.

I played Ryzom but never really got into it. There is a lto of freedom to do what you want. You don't have to rigidly follow missions. Not many play though - it nearly went bust - but the playerbase is very friendly and you'll get recruited into a guild almost immediately as they're desperate for new blood.

Don't troll Viza, it's not polite.

There's no endgame in EVE.  Corporate projects and Alliance warfare can "suck" *IF* you are unable to play well with others...and you contradict your own statements.  Don't try to fool anyone, EVE is one of the better games on the market otherwise you wouldn't be playing on your existing accounts.  What are you character names?  :P

EvE is a super fine concept wrapped around the most juvenile and pathetic unrestricted PvP mechanics known to man. As fine and deep as everything else in the game is, it boils down to the same level as the Gypsys in "Thinner" by Stephen King.

It is fundamentally designed to cater to the disturbed 13 year-old gank artist demographic, and as such is organically doomed in the venue of the worldwide MMORPG market. It is Gankageddon in the most depraved model.

My characters were "Carufin" and "Yukon Cornelius", btw.
