So I was wondering if there is any point in this instance at all. I've never done it and I'm too high of a level to do it now. Everyone told me it was too long and not worth it because there's not any good drops. Any opinions?
And a perfect example of why i left. God for bid you do a instance because its Fun. Which i think Gnomer was one of the most fun to do, different, challanging. But no drops are the only reason people do instances......so sad.

Big instance unless you have the key in your group and it can be a not so long run. Not a great instance, but worth doing just to see it. If you're lucky you might even get to see the mega train.
I did it once, when i was new to the game after that i havnt done it with any of my other chars because i just dont think its fun at all. But if you never done it i think you should give it a go!
Let me say this tho I dont like gnomer to dusky and small. The mechanical mobs are a pain and the alarms are also. And unless you have a great tank or a higher level to help out once you get to the earthen it can be hard.
But there are a few good drops down there for example the toxic avenger is a nice dagger and there are some decent cloth boots also both drop on the same monster some kind of elemental down where the toxic oozes are. There are a few more but they are harder to come by.
Most people do gnomer for the thermaplugg quest rewards. Thermaplugg himself carries good items sometimes.
It's a good instance. Fairly large, but not overly so if you know what you are doing. It may take 1.5-2 hours to complete, which is far less than many later instances.
The reason Gnomer is unpopular is that it's hard relative to it's level. Groups wipe in gnomer on a regular basis. It sorts the good players from the bad, and many poor groups won't make it to the end. Hence many people leave with a negative opinion of it.
However the drops are pretty good. The quest rewards for killing thermaplugg are great, particularly the trousers for leather users. Some of the drops are good too. My 33 paladin has been there twice, and four-manned it the second time. She currently uses Thermaplugg's Left Arm for when she is grinding and wears the quest reward Dual Reinforced Leggings. (typical players her level would have picked up more rewards on two runs, but her gear is already pretty good).
I guess it all depends how you want to play. Do you want to be challenged and learn how to really play the game? You will have to learn sooner or later...
Gnomeregan is one of my favorite instances. The only quest that I hate in it is that one where you have to get those artifact deals that everyone seems to fight over if you are in a PUG. I think that Guild groups are by far the best groups for a Gnomer run if you want to enjoy it. I have ran Gnomer a zillion times and it has always remained my favorite low level instance.

That was Uldaman. There aren't any Earthen in Gnomeregan. I'm assuming you meant Dark Iron Dwarves? There's plenty of them down there, and yes they're a pain in the rump.
I have to agree with the first few posters. I had to quit after some serious guild drama and lack of interest in "just messing around." None of them were interested in actually having fun, just in grinding rep and gathering epics. They all actually hated the game, they were just too power hungry to admit it.
I did manage to convince them to do a run through UBRS once, but it ended in disaster as 3/4 of the group had simply leveled to 70 and never even heard of the place. Naturally the eggs room wiped us about 6 times. After extensive whining, they dropped the instance and went back to farming Motes.

It's a tough instance for the level required, and you need a good well balanced group to complete it. You should be able to find a couple of players running their alts thorugh who know the instance. My suggestion is to ge there with a good amount of "rested" XP. You'll get a ton on XP and some decent gear as well. PuGs tend to wipe because very few players have yet to learn to play in a group at that level. And the fact that most players tend to quite after a "wipe" or two. It all depends on the group dymanimc and the PuG leader.
Some advice on the difficult bits that cause most wipes...
A little way before the end boss there is a single wide corridor which is split into two levels, an upper part and a lower part. Typically groups will arrive on the upper level, and it is possible to make your way to the end boss without fighting any mobs in the lower area. However alot of groups wipe by getting too close to the edge of the upper level and aggroing something in the lower area. As the mob from the lower area makes it's way to the party it runs past large numbers of social mobs, and often the party is suddenly and unexpectedly assaulted by a large crowd. To avoid this problem, stay away from the edge. For extra safety, take advantage of the side corridor and send a single high level to pull mobs back to this safe area, and fight there.
Dark iron agents drop land mines that explode after 10 seconds, doing lots of damage to anyone nearby. It's important to minimise the damage from these mines, and there are several techniques to do this. One of the dps with fast attacks (e.g. rogue, druid or hunter) should be given the job of destroying any mines that appear. Crowd control such as polymorph and seduction can be used to prevent the dwarves from dropping mines at all, and any agents that can't be crowd controlled should be a high priority target for the dps. It's a good idea for healers and ranged dps characters to stay some way back from the fight, so they don't get caught in any land mine explosions.
The end boss is dangerous as well. There are a number of buttons round the edge of the room you fight him. If the buttons aren't pressed, then walking bombs drop out and then make their way towards party members, exploding for moderate amounts of damage. One party member should be dedicated to pressing these buttons and preventing the bombs from appearing. Ideally this should be someone with enhanced movement, such as a feral druid, or someone with the Arathi Basin boots. If no one has any movement buffs then use the lowest level person who isn't the main healer or tank for this role. Thermaplugg also has the annoying habit of throwing the tank into the air, which makes holding aggro difficult, but he hasn't got many hit points and a good party should be able to kill him quickly.
Gnomeregan is actually one of those instance that is quite a challenge to complete at it's designated level. The dungeon is long and some of the encounters are group wipers if you are not careful. You need skill and general know how to play your class well that's why a lot of n00bs are giving the dungeon a bad opinion coz they can't hack it in there and just chalk it up as a bad instance. Actually a lot of the loot inside gnomeregan are quite good for it's level, some of the stuff are quite unique that you won't find in any other instance in the game.... things like Hydrocane™. My 70 is still carrying around the hydrocane i found back in 2004 for novelty as well as its usefulness in some situations...
I liked gnomer as a priest,I often used to go back and solo lower level instances just for fun. You could mind control a trogg, fling it off one of the edges and then wait for it to come back, with 20 of its friends in tow
wasnt so popular when you did it mid run with a group for some reason.
Plus, what many engineers didnt know, was that you could collect all the cards in there and unlock the recipe for the ray gun thing that turned people into leper gnomes.
I've never run Gnomer due to the difficulty in getting a group together to do it, now that I'm much higher level I think I'll go back and have a run through just to take a look, sounds pretty interesting.

no offence but.......
that way of thinking kinda defeats the purpose of the instance. And the entire game for that matter.
Why do you think in terms of items?

One of the best items in the game drops off one of the slimes.
...except Deadmines. Too many abortive Deadmines groups. That instance is pure evil.

But it is a tough one that it really helps to have some players in your group who are a bit higher in level than the quests are, esp your tank.

I was just referring to the dwarfs as earthen.
And then after you get past them you have to take on the mechs thats when it gets fun.
