QFT - I am level 35 now, just looked it up, 32 quests open, 25 of them are groupquests... And how can you, in 1 week, tell how the 30s quests are??? If you quit after one week you are either around level 20-24 or you have played 150 hours in this week... Please don't lie, everytime you lie, god kills a kitten
EDIT: Hell, who cares about hardcore. The only thing that still drives me to post on these threads is that I so totally know people will construct the image of this game as a "casual-happy-bunny-carebear-haven". Which it is not. It's in fact less carebear-easy-mode than WoW. I've played MMO since 1997, I've played MANY titles, I've played WoW for a longer time and I tell you guys, this game is a fully valuable game with more than enough content for everyone who enjoys (group)questing, Tolkien and RP (in order of importance).
I would recommend NOT to buy this game only to PvP-lovers and core-sandboxers. If you enjoyed games like EQ, EQ2 and WoW, theres a high chance that you will like this game too. If you don't look for a totally new concept that is.
I remember in EQ2 how the the world was made up of "zones". It was kinda annoying to wait for all of the load times.... Does LOTRO work the way like EQ2 did ?(Zones) Or is all of the world "Connected"?
the world is very much, VERY VERY much not like EQ2 nor like WoW. The zones don't change from "happy serene wood with birdies and flowers" to "vast wasteland with deadly serpents and dry salt lakes" ...
The most amazing job they did with the world design - and you can probably only cherish this when you have read some more Tolkien, especially the history or Arnor and the northern kingdoms Rhudaur, Arthedain and Cardolan - is that they transported all the small details from the Tolkien world right into the game. The dividing range between the gulches of Angmar and the North-Downs, the serene hills in Breeland, the unnatural withering in the Lone-Lands and the former kingdom of Rhudaur. It's all there. If you've just seen the movies it will be like "kk, nice zone"... but if you like Tolkien you will be like "OMG, it's exactly like in the Forgotten Tales of Numenor and Middle-Earth"...
Well and yea, even if you haven't read a line the world design is worlds apart (and ahead) of EQ2s, even ahead of WoWs or GWs. And I'm not overexaggerating. It truly is...
I think people are mixing two thing here. Graphics and game play.
If You game FUN is good graphics and story lore, then Lorto is excelent game for You. If You want complex game play with good character possibilities and customation, Lorto is way too simple game for You.

I disagree..but someone has to disagree with everything here right
I enjoy good graphics, I mean..who doesnt. But that isnt the game itself. I have always enjoyed the games considered "complicated", ACI being my favorite game of all time. I dont find LoTRo to be all too simple. I have been really enjoying going out of my way to complete each and every deed (it takes a long time and requires some dedication for darn sure) to get those traits to build up my character in the way I enjoy. That is a huge character possibility to me...its basically optional and will take up a lot of time to do, but its a potential to go for.
I feel like a lot people saying its too simple just tried it during the World Tour up until lvl 15. I know this isnt everyone of course, some people are going to find issues with everything..but most of the simplicity seems to come from people that just didnt get that far into it.
I'm currently playing LOTRO and I think it's a great game! Very geared towards the casual MMOer. It has all the elements that I look for in an MMO. Good graphics, story, and gameplay.
Im glad to hear that the landscape is much different from EQ2, WoW, etc. I've never really read the books, but I'm a huge fan of the movies! I've looked at some screen shots and the landscape looks a little like The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion.
Like I said before: I would cease posting on these threads every so often, but the game is distorted into some WoWish casual dream by people that have played for 3 weeks or even only the free beta. And for sure, up till level 15 its totally supereasy-mode.
But BEYOND this, when you get to 25, to 30, or even 40+ customization kicks in, a LOT more than in WoW, group content kicks in, kick-ass encounters take control (Garth Agarwen, Fornost, Carn Dum and following) and level-easymode - in terms of WoW or newer EQ2 - is just plain OVER. Of course, it doesn't get as hardcore as EvE or original UO... But in its own league of modern mass-PvE MMOs, it's becoming a challenge and a versatile game at upper levels.
Example: trait system. The higher level traits are not "hey funny, something to do". They MAKE a difference. When I get wisdom rank 4, I get a willpower bonus of 17 (my overall willpower at level 34 is 104 (!!)). If I choose a different trait, I get a critical heal chance bonus of 2%. trait skills include teleports, new available armos classes, totally new, independend skills, weapon bonuses. And MASSES of this. It's actually more versatile than the WoW system. Of course, you cannot change a healer into a tank like in WoW, but this is intended. Turbine stated before that they wanted the classes to be versatile, but within their specific roles. Example: Minstrels can go down the path of support-dps/buff or the path of main-heal. A main healer is ALWAYS in the back healing the crowd while a support-DPS minstrel is in the front all the time. Of course you never get to be "the damage bard"... heck, but you play your character totally different.
This whole concept of having your own class and speccing it beyond some cheesy statistics (and I've played a warlock, a rogue and a mage to 70 in WoW. It IS about cheesy statistics) while still maintaining your role is absolutely awesome. I would have LOVED to do this in WoW, not like "yay, if I go demonology I get some new pet and my curses are stronger" but actually having the choice to get a kick-.ass debuffer or a kick-ass close-quarter caster.
These are things LotRO delivers, AND within a system that doesn't just hand you 51 talent points at level 60 but actually combines every trait with an actual accomplishment... and some are REALLY hard to get
It sounds confusing, but I guess when you would get the hang of it, it would be really fun. It's kinda what happened to me when I first started playing EQ2.
It seems ever class I like in the game is popular. I guess I'm just another one off those leet people who like to DPS. So far I like the Champion/Hunter which are the most played classes. The Burglar is the only class I like that isn't played a tun. I tried hard to get into the Minstral, but it was just to slow paced for me.
The Loremaster seems nice at first, but the pet has bad pathing and can't tank. This combined with heals that only work on other players.
The Captain seems like a Paladin at first, but actually has very inefficient skills and poor heals that are on timers.
The Minstrel is click song1/song2/song3/repeart and if you are attacked by multiple mobs you have no hope of getting a heal off.
The Hunter is pretty good. He attacks from range and does a lot of damage. The only problem is the casting times on bow attacks which makes in close combat difficult if you have multiple mobs. Pretty fun class to play as.
The Champion is my favorite by far. They have an ability called fervor that disables you ability to evade/parry, but increased damage by 15% and adds power regeneration. You also have AOE attacks so you are more capable of mowing through multiple mobs then any other class in the game. It's actually somewhat like the rogue in WoW though a lot more durable.
The Burglar is a lot of fun, but requires a lot of patience as you need to sneak around to get full backstab damage. With movement reduction it takes a while to move around and get into position to strike. They do have a lot of nice skills like tricks that debuff and riddles that will stun the mob so he wont attack right away. Very fun to play at times because they have such a wide array of abilities.
Anyway I think the game is pretty good if you don't go crazy and play it a lot. There is a lot of quests to be had though sometimes you might get tired of delivering mail/pies in the shire.
I love LotRO and play a Minstrel as my main, hunter as my alt
You can get a heal off when jumped by 2/3 mobs, it is hard, but you do have a couple of quick spells, but the tanks always pull them off soon after with practice you can control your hate when you play with inexperienced tanks, played with a Lore Master who kept trying to tank and wouldnt stop pulling.

All connected. Though it has instances there is no zoning like in EQ2.
