well this is why they keep losing more and more people, they cant seem to get anything done, but the things they do get done sucks, kinda sad, would had thought they would had learned by now.
Hmm,
You really haven't been been following this game for the past 2-3 months? There are many bugs being smashed, players returning or joining and new content added such as Beast Master, Revamps of Theme Parks and addtion of a new quest series. A large improvement also was the advancement of the MOB AI. They now are doing specials in combat so you can't solo everything anymore. Elites and Bosses at your level are just nuts now.
My recommendation, if you have time in a few months (after Chapter 7 or so), do a 14 day trial and see what its like.
Beast Master isn't new content.
It's a hybrid of pre-NGE Bio Engineer and Creature Handler. With a few added obstacles.

I agree that Beast Master is a form of CH and Bio-Engineer with more requirements. I would also not be surprised we get other expertiese such as Outdoorsman (Hybrid of Scout/Ranger) and Brawler with all remaining Melee professions lumped together. Still, I would rather have SWG with them than without.
There seems to be this theme that re-gifting is bad. Why?
Would not surprise me at all to find out they're postponing it purely so they can pull these PR publicity stunts. There's an awful lot of explanation there for a simple "it wasn't ready, so we pushed it back."
you may have hit the nail on the head.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
The only thing they should be "packing up" is the servers....
isn't that the point of getting rid of the houses? so they CAN do some server mergers?

something given voluntarily without payment in return, as to show favor toward someone, honor an occasion, or make a gesture of assistance; present.
2.
the act of giving.
3.
something bestowed or acquired without any particular effort by the recipient or without its being earned: Those extra points he got in the game were a total gift.
4.
a special ability or capacity; natural endowment; talent: the gift of saying the right thing at the right time.
–verb (used with object)
5.
to present with as a gift; bestow gifts upon; endow with.
6.
to present (someone) with a gift: just the thing to gift the newlyweds.
i guess i'm lost on the 'gift' part of that word and how it applies to 'saga of eeeeeeeeeediots' (as ren would say). i'm at a loss as to why this game has it to where everyone and their mother's brother's cousin can be a jedi? i mean, did this become KOTOR while we weren't looking? and it's jedi vs sith or something? nah, cuz bioware has historically done the opposite of SOE -- they've made damned good games and taken care of their players.
guess i didn't like wow that much and i don't care for wow with lightsabers and spaceships (oh wait, wow has those too now, don't they?). bleh, oversimplified mmo's are what you look for on the 360, not in a computer game. might as well play the sims.

Re-gifting is definitely not bad. That's very true.
But this isn't regifting. This is presented as 'new content'. If they came right out and said that they made a mistake and they're giving back CH, then you wouldn't hear me make a peep. Well... not a very loud one... maybe... just a little one... a little smug one... *blushes*
Aaaanyways, the point is, I don't mind the beast mastery at all. In fact I think it's awesome that anybody can specialize in beast mastery. I object to their presentation of it. And I know, I'm biased and it's a lot of all my old resentment rearing its ugly head, but that doesn't make it anymore right to revamp something - or make a hybrid of something old - and then presenting it as new content.
[EDIT] Oh... and... speaking of biased... in all fairness, they did - on at least two occasions that I know of - admit to having majorly screwed up with the NGE... and I did... sorta make a smug peep on both occasions... *smiles wryly*

Its an ugly situation indeed,
Marketing is going to push that something introduced is new and improved to attracted new players ---a constent. In a very good sense "to the developers" it is new as they had to redesign the content from the ground up to replace that system from the old. They probably feel very highly about thier effort in that reguard. This is where it really get to be a cluster F*** with two big companies running the game. I have to give further credit to the current developers for trying to turn the game around.
Currently in discussion on the SWG Forums is a new Achievement Tracking system. Many scream that its not need before new content and/or quests. The devs have frankly said the old way causes too much additional work to develope each individual quests or missions tracking system. This new system would allow all future and (over time) old systems to be brought under one complete Journal. The old Quest Journal (CU relic) has many limits that this new system can address and go beyond. There will be Accumilated Achievements included. Kill X number of MOB and get a badge and reward. As I understand, this is simular to the Collection System in EQ2 and badge counter in CoH. This new Tracker should allow for more dynamic mission content than SWG has ever had. Time will tell if they master any bugs with it.
My point is the developers of SWG are making head way on the current version of the game. They may be limited on what choices they can take the game by policy set by Lucas Arts and SOE but they are doing a good job. Many here lump the whole crew on SWG into one group of devs and curse them. Having read the Offical Forums, These Forums and other blogs and news sources concerning SWG I can say that the 20 man crew fixing the game is just a small part to the whole Engine that runs it. SOE facilitate the game but LA passes jugement and dictates policy. Today that heavy hand of Lucas is less and the devs can just fix the game with the community in mind. What I found interesting is John Smedley (prez of SOE) use to play SWG before the NGE and even had a Creature Handler. In his last public statements on SWG he seemed very out of contact with the game. I think he didn't like the NGE either. You figure it out.
Why was it so easy to get "glowie" for Jedi in the CU? Why did Jedi become a starting profession in the NGE? Lucas Arts did thier studies and found the majority wanted Jedi. So it was ordered to make it easier to please casual players resending policy that Jedi was to be rare. LA---"make this game sell" SOE---"but we need to make this game fun." And thus it went.
Server Merge--- It has been stated that there will be server merges and the housing packup is the first step.
Well, they wouldn't need to do this if they hadn't made a number of of changes.
Originally, if you had a house, and it ran out of maintenance, it would decay and poof after about 10 days or so, taking itself and all the stuff within it into nothingness. Lost forever. The lot was freed up, and someone else could build on it, be it another house, or a harvester, or a PA hall.
But then, and I can't figure out why they did this, they changed the system so that houses did not go poof due to lack of maintenance, they became "condemned" and remained in the world, and the building was inaccessable to anyone until the owner became current on maintenance. Of course, everything inside the house was preserved, although not loaded into the world because you could not go inside.
I'm cynical enough to think this was done to mask a dwindling player base from casual observation; huge areas of slurbs around the main cities (Mos Eisley, Bestine, Coronet, Theed, Dantooine Mining Outpost) and player cities would persist presenting a mix of Potemikin structures and actually used structures, thus preserving the illusion of a populated world.
The problem of course is that all these objects in the world contributed to lag, suppressed mob spawning, and prevented new players from erecting their own structures or allowing their player cities to advance, since there were vast ghost towns of player cities which held shuttleports and prevented new player cities from aquiring them, as the number of shuttleports per planet were capped.
In addition to the Katrina structure maintenance suspension, they've actually lowered the per hour maintenance cost of structures. They took a huge step in January 2006 when they changed the rules for administration of harvesters, and no longer allowed anyone but the owner of the harvesrter to administrate it, that is, put in maintenance and energy and have access to its resource hopper. This killed a lot of "lot swap" harvester farms and reduced a great deal of non-functional harvester clutter.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
A festering turmoil of NGE-lovers destroying our honoured cities and buildings... When they extermine that, they are gonna realise the galaxy is so empty...
In other hand...
Whoa, this is only the gold chance for my ex-gf to destroy all what was mine: houses in several planets and extractors. It will be a real Destruction Raid for her! Good luck, sweety!

Server Merge--- It has been stated that there will be server merges and the housing packup is the first step.
now i hate to break it to you, but... beast master is nothing new, i WAS a old creature handler before they raped the game, and now how long since nge, well it was back in november 2005 when it hit, it had more bugs in it then the game had it self, and with new stuff they add more and more bugs along with it, i remember not long ago when jabbas palace went puff.
and in 18 months what have they done, lets see, they put back a professions, made a few more quests, updated a theme park, not all at the same time, wonder why. made mobs so hard that not even a crafter can clear land, with gray mobs, for his harvesters, and cool pets more powerful then 3 lvl90s great idea, yea smart people they are indeed.
and server merges you should go to www.camelotherald.com and check out the numbers of people playing that, on those clusters theres playing as many people as there was on one of the servers alone, the high pup server doesnt want merges, and when its forced on them they leave and the merged servers ends up with playing with the same numbers they already were before the merge.
merge=good way to lose money.
i been in bate in swg a few times, and they never listen, never have and never will, they have thier own ideas and they follow then, also why they have chased away over 1mill players over the years.
well this is why they keep losing more and more people, they cant seem to get anything done, but the things they do get done sucks, kinda sad, would had thought they would had learned by now.

Beast Master isn't new content.
It's a hybrid of pre-NGE Bio Engineer and Creature Handler. With a few added obstacles.
Beast master has some resemblence to CH and BE, but it has many differences that seperates it from the two. It's simillar in that to make the pet you collect DNA (BE style) and you then get a pet you can control (CH).
However it goes into far more depth then anything the CH system was. Firstly, all crafters are involved in the pet crafting process as parts and components are spread out between the crafting professions. You use these parts to refine Hydrolase and output a powered up version. You then use 3 of these, along with the DNA and other enzymes you loot to craft the pet. You then have 6 14pt lines to experiment on to improve your pet. This is just a brief overview of how it works.
Pets now have personalities and they will develop opinions on nearly everything in the game. If you do things that it doesn't like, it loses points on its abilities and recieves less XP. Keep it happy and it'll recieve bonuses to its stats & XP and gain loyalty levels to allow you to teach it higher abilities. Different pets learn different abilities which you need to learn off wild creatures.
If you take a high level look at it, yes, you could say they brought back CH. When you get to the details though, it differs alot.
As for those saying "if they didn't make sweeping changes they wouldn't need to packup houses", I politely disagree. This has been an issue in the game for a loooong time now, even before they changed it so that houses didn't blow up after they ran out of maint. It was common practice when people left the game that they'd stack up years worth of maint on the house. After 4 years of this happening, it's extremely cluttered now and I don't think the situation would be all that different if none of the changes ever happened. It's a 4 year old game afterall.

I'm aware of the procedure to get pets. That would be the added obstacles I was talking about.
I am/ was a crafter myself, and as a crafter, I thought the way had been made ridiculously complicated. I'm an arcitect, we got the camps. They should have let another crafter or maybe two at the most, get the Beast Mastery components.

Complexity & interdependancy is something people had been asking for, along with some more indepth crafting. The new BM goods has brought that to the game again. It's not meant to be easy to get that highend 60/60 point pet.
I don't know who people are, but I weren't one of them. And neither were the people I talked to about it. But I suppose that would be because we were in the same interest group and shared similar opinions *shrugs*
"So I contend that the player stories will always be more powerful than the scripted stories that we try to tell the players."
A relatively off-topic note, anyone care to explain why these pre-CU fanboys continuously troll the SWG topics because they can't get enough crying in action for something that's not coming back? Perhaps looking at a "Steps of Grievance" chart could help you guys.
I'm really not even sure why anyone even posts a reply to this. It's just a statement announcing that SOE has fallen behind again in their promises and attempts to keep everyone on their accounts.
On an on-topic note; I think that the house pack-up(not blow-up) is a great idea, anyone who's played recently among the thousands of new players and re-activated veterans has no doubt stepped outside Coronet, anywhere on Naboo, Bestine, or Mos Eisley, has undoubtedly noticed the handfuls of (Abandoned) houses and other structures. It's hard to place a Mustafarian bunker or large house/guildhall these days because everyone is too proud to hunker down and take a slice of humble pie.
PS: I'd really employ everyone that HASN'T played in the past few months and continues to COMPLAIN about changes to shut up and log in their characters and play for a while before making powerful judgments and accusations.
As a "pre CU fanboy" who recently participated in the vet trial, and ground up a new toon from scratch to level 50, and someone who grinded up CHs to master under each of the three 'eras" of CH prior to their extermination by the NGE, let me say this about BM:
Beast Master may be a herald of greater interdependency than heretofore seen in the NGE environment, but one thing it does not do is restore the personality pets once had in the preCU era. In fact, the pets are less customizable than they were in the CH revamp of August '05.
The mobs used to be highly customized in the wild, let alone the BE creations, but the CU killed that by taking away the personalities that critters had in favor of easy to code and deploy "angry bags". You used to need to have a master scout or ranger along to tell you what the critters were vulnerable to, so you could select the right weapon and special to take advantage of that. Now it's bang on a rock time.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Pre-cu SWG Vet here. NGE = WOWish go pet the ponies.

i did exacly that.
i loged in see how Squal was doing. i found him naked because he cant wear anything he used to have. if i wanted xp i had to go do quests... and then do another quest that looks like the first quest and then another one that looks like the other quest. i went smugler. did these delivery missions i used to do as a novice marksman day 2 after original SWG launch to get money for a shuttle ticket.
i got a few lvls and got some equipment. so as a pre-CU (fanboy if you want to call me that) because we had 2 years worth of lies and deceptions and we can see history repeating itself. we are also telling every one what hapened to us and to tell the new players what they are getting into. SOE are liars and it has been proven many times. like the post with the screenie of the jedi trials or the force ranking system...
imagine you worked hard to get your jedi and after a few months of intence gamingprofession grinding and village things... then you are only a padawan...you finnaly get to do the trials... they tell you oh we took them off because we are giving every one a jedi. im sure you will imediately complain and yell and what not and possibly press cancel subscription. now if they tell you that they will put it back later after they fix it and a few months later (remember you pay MONTHLY fee) change the game overnight (with out warning or any one waying anything) thats a good 100$ you payed SOE for wating to get what every one can get with their 30 first days free. would you complain even more then??? i think so!
now you go try to place your house with a populated server that has SO MANY EMPTY ABANDONED HOUSES! (that seems like an oxymoron eh?) hmmmm... btw there is still place to put your house, i put my musty house with no problem at all on naboo close to theed in BRIA (the server that used to be the MOST populated of all.
ON TOPIC:
cool no need to spend money to see armoursmith for a armour. (also can get from loot or quest)
cool no need to spend money to see weaponsmith for a pistol(also can get from loot or quest)
cool no need to spend money to see Doctor for buffs or wounds (since there are no more there) and food i can buy in such bulk that i dont need to see a crafter for months at a time
cool no need for smugler since no more slicing or spices
cool no need for medic since i can heal myself
cool no need for shipright since i can get ships from quests
cool no need for structural engineer since i can get a house cuz i got it a s a gift for buying the expansion
no need for tailor (looted)
the only things i might need would be Beast master (but i hear every one can be one...) so i can just be one myself
and entertainer...(they do some buffs...)
where is the interdependencies? and i thing its exacly what we had. i could be a CH and a BE at the same time.
now if you have pets that can possible become as strong as 3 lvl 90, so i can just play with in a 1 man server without having problems... so much for the MMORPG...its noww a single player game that requires you to pay 15$ per month...
no thanks i rather play any SW lethal aliance or rogue squadron or KOTOR series for a single player game.
I guess I don't get the complaining or having to continually post about "vets" crying years later.. even if one enters a thread. If any post on a forum bothers you that much.. don't read it.. don't respond to it. Responding only continues the cycle..
Beyond that guess what? Perhaps the fact that people are still complaining about it "years" later.. could infer the idea that.. SOE could in fact get back many upset / former customers.
How many MMO's out there that bomb.. or have pretty much died out.. inspire that kind of post years later?
How often do you really see former Earth and Beyond players as an example posting about the game shutting down? I mean now and then but not often. You see posts about SWG everywhere.. you log into a new MMO such as LOTRO and you see people talk about it. My server even had a "who here played on starsider" thread.
Instead of pissing on former players even if you don't like what they post. Perhaps buy the clue that there is still a lot of interest in the game that was. Which isn't something many MMO's can claim...
Much of what SWG seems to have some odd perspective to many that post here... Or they played on some mythical server I never logged into.
I see many posts about how "back in pre-cu my server was dying" or some various piece of BS..
MY server.. Starsider.. had more people on it the 3 months before the CU than ANY other time. I know.. I was there. So I guess that's respective to what server you played on?
There weren't abandoned houses all over.. there were active player cities.. events.. pvp... Yes after Chapter 6.. I see a few hundred people instead of 50...
I don't troll here asking for the old game.. or crapping on SOE. Yet I don't see trying to alter the facts of the past.. to make the current game look better.. as anything but the trolling that people here claim vets do.
I get as sick of the reinvented past state of the game posts as I do with the SOE sux ones.
As a "pre CU fanboy" who recently participated in the vet trial, and ground up a new toon from scratch to level 50, and someone who grinded up CHs to master under each of the three 'eras" of CH prior to their extermination by the NGE, let me say this about BM: Beast Master may be a herald of greater interdependency than heretofore seen in the NGE environment, but one thing it does not do is restore the personality pets once had in the preCU era.
I too was a CH pre-NGE/CU.
Sorry, but I can't agree. I feel my pet now has much more personality to him then any of my pets did back then, making him feel more like a pet rather then an extension to my weapon. He has a bunch of likes and dislikes that I need to cater to from what he likes to eat to what planet he likes to be on. Hell, he even has different likes and dislikes depending on the planet he's on. Stat wise, this is up to you to customise during the incubation phase. You can boost certain stats through the Lyase enzymes you use and the colour you pick for your pet.

I'm aware of the feeding thing (cribbed directly from the 800 pound MMO hanadak) but was unaware of planetary likes/dislikes. This is cool.
However, do cats have blazing speed compared to dewbacks? Do rancors still have problems on hills? The skin specific advantages/disadvantages were obliterated in the CU, and I don't think BM addressed those aspects of the critter mobs, which not only affects those who turn them into pets, but those who fight them in the wild. That aspect of the virtual world hasn't been restored, and it's a pity.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

It's not just planets and food that they can develop a like and dislike for, it's everything you do. Some pets love to be buffed, some love to watch entertainers and some are evil and love to see their owner die (yes, true story). Someone posted a story about his vegetarian Kimogila on the forums the other day that hates eating any meat products, hates killing other creatures and hates being on Lok (it did like killing NPCs though...). Out of all the features of BM, this is one of the parts I really like and something I had always wished my pets back in the day had.
There aren't as many species differences as their was back in the day, but they are there. Cat for instance seem to come out with higher strike through rates for instance. It's hard to tell how detailed it is since these stats were only visible with 6.3 (yesterdays hotfix). To be quite honest though, I think the personality thing makes up for that...I'm already starting to get attached to my Sand Panther lol.

This is pretty encouraging news! I didn't get to play with critters for very long on TC, my judgement is obviously premature. If critters have this much personality, well, this system might well make up for not having three critters out!

Hmm,
You really haven't been been following this game for the past 2-3 months?

Why?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

i guess i'm lost on the 'gift' part of that word and how it applies to 'saga of eeeeeeeeeediots' (as ren would say). i'm at a loss as to why this game has it to where everyone and their mother's brother's cousin can be a jedi? i mean, did this become KOTOR while we weren't looking? and it's jedi vs sith or something? nah, cuz bioware has historically done the opposite of SOE -- they've made damned good games and taken care of their players.
guess i didn't like wow that much and i don't care for wow with lightsabers and spaceships (oh wait, wow has those too now, don't they?). bleh, oversimplified mmo's are what you look for on the 360, not in a computer game. might as well play the sims.

Once a denizen of Ahazi
A festering turmoil of NGE-lovers destroying our honoured cities and buildings... When they extermine that, they are gonna realise the galaxy is so empty...
In other hand...
Whoa, this is only the gold chance for my ex-gf to destroy all what was mine: houses in several planets and extractors. It will be a real Destruction Raid for her! Good luck, sweety!
It is a question of fangs.

now i hate to break it to you, but... beast master is nothing new, i WAS a old creature handler before they raped the game, and now how long since nge, well it was back in november 2005 when it hit, it had more bugs in it then the game had it self, and with new stuff they add more and more bugs along with it, i remember not long ago when jabbas palace went puff.
and in 18 months what have they done, lets see, they put back a professions, made a few more quests, updated a theme park, not all at the same time, wonder why. made mobs so hard that not even a crafter can clear land, with gray mobs, for his harvesters, and cool pets more powerful then 3 lvl90s great idea, yea smart people they are indeed.
and server merges you should go to www.camelotherald.com and check out the numbers of people playing that, on those clusters theres playing as many people as there was on one of the servers alone, the high pup server doesnt want merges, and when its forced on them they leave and the merged servers ends up with playing with the same numbers they already were before the merge.
merge=good way to lose money.
i been in bate in swg a few times, and they never listen, never have and never will, they have thier own ideas and they follow then, also why they have chased away over 1mill players over the years.

Hmm,
You really haven't been been following this game for the past 2-3 months?

I'm aware of the procedure to get pets. That would be the added obstacles I was talking about.I am/ was a crafter myself, and as a crafter, I thought the way had been made ridiculously complicated.

Who's trolling now?
Pre-cu SWG Vet here. NGE = WOWish go pet the ponies.
It is a question of fangs.
i loged in see how Squal was doing. i found him naked because he cant wear anything he used to have. if i wanted xp i had to go do quests... and then do another quest that looks like the first quest and then another one that looks like the other quest. i went smugler. did these delivery missions i used to do as a novice marksman day 2 after original SWG launch to get money for a shuttle ticket.
i got a few lvls and got some equipment. so as a pre-CU (fanboy if you want to call me that) because we had 2 years worth of lies and deceptions and we can see history repeating itself. we are also telling every one what hapened to us and to tell the new players what they are getting into.
