First off you can't over hype a game less it stinks and since it's not even in beta (or released) we don't know.

Personally I think with the background/history of Warhammer and how well Mythic has handled PVP/RVR in DAoC I think it'll be a fun game.

WoW is not a PVP game, its a PVE game. That's a mistake I made also, thinking WoW was going to actually BE a pvp game.

You didn't make that mistake. They said it was going to be since closed beta. Actually they said a lot of things that didn't come true.

for all we know WAR could be a bunch of empty promises who knows we can't tell the future and the original OP wasn't even bagging WAR so stop acting like he did and being all defensive.

Warcraft "lore" feels like a comic book or anime. Every few years there's a New Menace to Everything That Must Be Stopped. First, orcs from another world. Then it turns out these orcs were duped by Chaos (or... Chaos-lite, from their warp-lite), so they can be good guys (Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch OLOLOL!!!11), because there's an EVILER EVIL that Must Be Stopped If It's The Last Thing We Do. Oh, and they have Elric/Aenarion/Vader on their side. Who's tragic, by the way.  Really. Then, that's finished up and it moves on to Bug People.

It's the same villian-of-the-season format that Yu-gi-oh! follows: building up to the next "OMG BIG REVEAL!!!11" but there's not a lot of substance.

Warhammer, on the other hand, follows the form of a history class. Like a book that combines a hybrid of Moorcock's Chaos with Lovecraft, then sticks that in 16th century pre/early-Reformation Germany.   It's convoluted, contradictory, thouroughly fascinating, and it doesn't change (much); just like real-life history.  It borrows from original sources and finds depth there. There's always more detail to be discovered, new revelations, and established things to debate.

For me, the psuedo-historical/classic swords-and-sorcery style of Warhammer is infinitely more engaging than a lighter, fluffier version. It's like a steak compared to a hamburger, or triple-fermented unfiltered belgian compared to Budweiser. Classic versus mass-market.

We'll see if they pull off the PvP, but when it comes to story, imagery, and graphics, Warhammer is leagues ahead.
i stole that bitch being a long time warhammer from from the start of tabletop i know this crap..but im too lazy anyways another then this go to yourtube.com and look for a E3 vid showing warhammers uniques ness the good one is at least 7 mins long so ya its got much more then WOW buddy..

ok u know what...im really getting sick of ppl that dont read about a game or watch the videos explaining it. This game has nothing to do with WoW so pls stop thinking they're the same. WAR is PvP-based not PvE!!

Well, as long as it helps in informing people that WAR is NOT a WoW clone, that it is NOT "Just the same stuff over and over again", it's good to ressurect such threads...

God, what I am getting tired at writing really basic information about WAR in almost every WAR related post, just to counter people's BLATANT IGNORANCE...

Simply watch the Podcasts, no text to read, created really funny and entertaining while still serving lots of information.

It will be interesting when WAR and AOC get released.  Yes a lot of people will jump on these games, in fact it may be hard to even find a copy at your local gamestore for the first few days due to their popularity.  Unfortunatly, because of being so over hyped, the game, no matter how great it may be possibly will not live up to the expectations of many gamers.

I know many people already invisioned in their minds through articles, vidoe clips and pure imagination what the game will be like ...playing hour after hour, enjoying massive quests , battling all sorts of monsters and rival clans and, enjoying every minute of the non-stop action.  I really do hope it will be as great as people say but sometimes our imagination takes over and once you begin playing, no matter how great the game may be will not live up to your peronal expectations.  I am sure everyone has experienced this once or twice in their lifetime.

I am no way hoping this will be true, but it is reality.  I will be very interested in reading peoples opinions about WAR and AOC a month or so after they're released.

    Why WAR gives me wood:
    • RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX - KILLING ENEMY PLAYERS!
    • GETTING EXPERIENCE FOR KILLING ENEMY PLAYERS!
    • QUESTS AIMED AT: KILLING ENEMY PLAYERS!
    • RAIDING AND RANSACKING ENEMY CITIES WHILST; KILLING ENEMY PLAYERS!
    • GETTING LOOT OFF OF DEAD ENEMY PLAYERS!
    • GETTING TO LVL 40 BY JUST DOING RvR/PvP (aka KILLING ENEMY PLAYERS!)
You can't do all of that in any other one MMO out there, period.  (UO comes close)

PvPers don't play second fiddle to Kaplan and his cheetos-crusted worshipper-raiders. I think that's a huge step above WoW right there for many of us.

At the moment i play wow, sadly it's all but lost it's appeal.. Even with my stinky 400MS all the way from down under..

I really do see WAR as the next game on my to do list, just by watching the various podcast's they've released i was hooked instantly. It looks superior to wow in every way possible.. I cant wait to start PVPING and lvling at the same time. ^_^

So after reading all the previous posts, only about 2 people came up with any kind of answer to the OP.

So if we ignore the lore (which 90% of gamers will do) were left with a PVP centric RVR version of WoW.  Sounds like fun but hardly worth the hyperventilating kiddie hype going on.

I'll wait and see but I can already imagine the type of gamer that we will have to deal with on a daily basis in this game, that in it self is a put off for me.

This game will attract 100% of the "lolz its s0 k00l I can t0lly level whyle PwnzrinK U" crowd. Even the devs see lore, crafting and roleplaying as something "inferior" to (quote) "Beating the living crap out of each other"...

No - way. This game finds mass appeal on boards like these and it's overly hyped here, but in the end we'll see how much of a BROAD appeal this game will have. I know of many many former EQ, EQ2, WoW players who - already now - made clear that they will stay away from this game...

EDIT: WoW was DESIGNED as a PvE game. Which is probably one of the major reasons it has grown so successful.

Actually, I agree with the devs, lore, crafting and roleplaying definitely take a back seat to killing stuff and exploring (at least for me).  I'd play a game that was missing all 3 of those quite truthfully.

Mass appeal.  Let's talk about that....its true, people love their PVE games, PVP is not for everyone, so by creating this game focused on PVP they are limiting the game in terms of target audience.

Back when EQ 1 was out Mythic released DAOC, and while it never came close to EQ1 in sub numbers, it had a strong player population who for the most part had rejected the EQ 1 PVE model and enjoyed the game for what it was.

I don't believe WAR Online will "kill" WOW..... I think it will carve itself a niche of players, (maybe 250-500k, pulling numbers out my a** of course) who will enjoy the game.

For every person you know from EQ/EQ2/WOW who have already rejected this game, bet I can find an equal number who've already admitted every game they are playing (including those 3) between now and WAR's release are just placeholders.

WAR stands a good chance of being a successful game.  As for one day running on 400+ servers, no, I'm just not seeing it.

WoW and every other MMORPG out there was "designed" in that manner.  Designed as PvE and added a dash of PvP.  The way you stated that was like saying that WoW is the only game designed like that, and was successful because of it.  And I seriously don't see where you get that WAR will have no back-story, exploration, lore, etc...  That's preposterous!

I dont believe that EAMythic are actually out to make a money or player-count beater of World of Warcraft, that's totally not thier aim.

They are concentrating on making a fun, playable and dark PVP-heavy game, and that's exactly what we are going to get.

In answer to it being over-hyped, I don't think it's over-hyped at all. All signs point towards this game being fantastic, and it's been at the top of my most-wanted list since it was re-announced in 2005.
