New player

Well I am a new Vanguard player.  After playing WoW for so long I needed a break.  I didn't care for LOTRO much and EQ2 was very nice but I settled on a "chancey" run with Vanguard.  According to some I am making a bad decision but the last time I saw this game was beta and even then I felt that "immersion" factor I haven't felt since EQ.  The game was just buggy at the time.  If I end up having fun, my son will join me soon after and I will have someone to party with.

The game is great, and similar to WoW. The difference with it, is how MUCH you can do in the game. It's obsolutely a HUGE game. When I played it, it wasn't buggy at all... but everyone said it is buggy... I guess it's only buggy if your computer isn't a high-end top-notch computer. If it is, then it shouldn't be buggy.

I strongly suggest allowing your son to play with you in the beginning levels... because this game is definitly a grind... not a terribly boring one... but a long one... and if you don't have someone to play with, then it will get boring fast, I promise.

I honestly can't tell you that you made a bad choice but maybe you should stick to one copy of the game for now and reroll with your son if you decide to stick with it.  I purchased Vanguard a little while ago, played it for two months trying out a few different servers (one of each).  I just couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness in the game.  The world is very large, I found most players to be unhelpful, and the bugs....Oh the bugs!  This game just feels like its lacking something.  Its ashame because it has a lot of cool concepts that didn't transcribe into the game world as well as many of us would have hoped.  So my recommendation is to just purchase the one copy and try it out for a bit.

baalzeboul69 - The server merges will be kicking in within the next 3 weeks :) I recommend returning when they do!

Take a look at this chart.  The is the story of Vanguard.  Take a  moment to understand its implication and then decide if you wish to jump in or not.

To be fair, the developers are hoping to stop the decline.  IMHO, it is a tad too late.  Titanic has already struck ice.  It just hasn't sunk yet.

I feel you made a good choice. This game is excellent, still a litle buggy but that is being addressed. The game is more stable after the last patch.

A MMO is like life. It is something to cherish and enjoy upon in it journey. So why race to the end of it. In life at the end you die.

Update:  So far I am really enjoying the game.  I was very suprised at the graphics and quality.  There is some type of bug that causes you to rubberband a little on the screen sometimes, but that is going to be fixed I am sure.  Today I am going to pick up the game for my son.

Some of you have said wait until the game is perfected to jump in.  Its a shame to see a good game like this go to waste.  They need subscribers, so I'm going to stay with it in hopes it will survive.  WoW is a mess right now and everything is based around "the perfect group."  LOTRO was simply boring to me, especially with its lack of armor sets.
