Well I like stories and would like to get to know some of you a lil better, so I figured it might be fun if we shared some of our greatest moments in EQ with everyone. What moments stand out most in your EQ career. Was it the first time you walked into Unrest? Was it the first time you dared venture to the bottom of Blackburrow? How about when you got up the courage to knock on Crushbones door?
There are so many fond memories that I have from my EQ days, more so than any other game I've played. If you didn't get the chance to play EQ, then I guess you can play along too. Tell us what game you played and what your fondest memory of the game was. After we all tell what our greatest moment in EQ or whatever other game we played was, then talk about what you hope to see in EQ2. As far as what zones you hope to revisit, what encounters you hope to relive, what experiences you hope you can have again.
Well, with that said, I'll go first ^_^
I'm going to have to say my favorite moment in EQ history was launch day. I know it had it's problems, but I didn't have those problems because I was up at 8am on March 16th, 1999. I remember running to my local Software Etc. and getting the game, running home, installing it, and logging in.
Of course I was running on dial up back so I couldn't call my friend on the phone and talk to him to cordinate everything. I logged off quickly, after making the decision that we were going to play on the Tarew Marr server. I told him that I was going to make a Dwarven Cleric named Hahn and he told me he was going to make a Dwarven Warrior named Hardolin.
I logged back into the game quickly and boom... it was so congested that I couldn't even get in. Tried for about 20 minutes and all the sudden I got in! I rushed throught the servers and got to character creation. At the time I remember thinking it was so cool that I had this lil 3D dwarf and I was changing his face to make him different, I was adjusting his stats to make him a better cleric.
Hahn was created...
Shortly after I got in I did a search to see who all was on. There were 24 people on the entire server ^_^ One of them happened to be Hardolin, thank goodness. We ran around Butcherblock killing 3D bats, 3D rats, 3D everything hehe. We ran into the lil huts and sold our bat wings and just had fun.
We decided to follow a road and ventured all the way to what looked like a hole in the side of a mountain... I was hesitant, Hardolin being the fearless warrior said, "C'mon ya wuss! Les get in dere!" I remember zoning into this dark forest with trees everywhere. I remember Hardolin turning around and said, "Okay, you're not a wussy... les get outta here!" and we zoned back to Butcherblock hehe.
We had so much fun in the first day. We were new, we didn't know what to do. We were in a whole new world and it was just fun to actually feel like we were in a 3D world, looking at everything from any angle we wanted. We ran into some wonderful players and a few nasty ones, but the experience was very very enjoyable.
For the next few days we played and tried to save up money. I remember how excited we were when we decided to pool our money together to buy our first piece of chain armor! We had made the patched stuff from wolf hides and were looking pretty heroic already, but that new chain armor was something we were so excited about. Sure it took ALL of our money put together to get it, but we didn't care, he was the warrior, so he had to protect me!
But the initial 5 days of EQ were probably the memories that stand out most. Sure I have plenty others that stand out probably just as much, but for now this is the story I'll share
I'm definitely looking forward to that same feel. The feeling of stepping into a real virtual world. Back then we had UO, a top down view of a lil character and you saw what you saw, you don't change the angle or anything. EQ had a whole new dimension, a 3D dimension, and it made the whole experience that much greater.
With EQ2 they're adding ANOTHER dimension, voices. So on top of beautiful graphics and areas that are alive with life, we're going to be able to actually HEAR these characters. It will add a whole new depth to the game and it's one of the features I'm most looking forward to. I think when people play the game they'll realize how much this new dimension has actually added.
I'm looking forward to stepping into this world and having all these new things, and it will be like when I went from UO to EQ. That extra added detail that will completely engulf me and make me feel I'm in this new world. I hope to meet some wonderful people and find a small group to spend my days venturing with.
I think EQ2 is going to do alot more than people realize. It really is a whole new world now. I can't wait to hear some of your stories and what you hope to get out of EQ2. Oh, and sorry for the long post ^_^

Greatest EQ moment would be a toss up for me. Either the first time I ran from Neriak to uhh, the zone outside of Halas with my lvl 8ish DE Necro. I was on the edge of my seat the whole way, hands shaking, palms sweaty. I was certain a giant or griffin would break my invis, and I'd be toast. When I hit the bridge from east karana to north karana, I was just floored. It just looked so damn cool.
The second would be my first major raid with my druid, which was on Venril Sathir. everything was all orderly while we all buffed up and stuff, then it was like 60 seconds of what seemed like pure chaos. It was pretty fun. So was the first time I went to PoH, and got totally lost trying to find the area the rest of the raid was at.
It's a shame that I've not found the thrills in the other games I've played, that I got in EQ. I don't know if it was just the newness of it, and having been there, I can never get it back, or if it was just an EQ thing. Been very tempted to pick it back up again, even if I would have a long ways to go to catch up with everyone else now.

They panic, so just hold them down
I could live like this
I'm closing in; hate all around
I could be like this
Hearing them, them in my head
How could they be so sweet... sweet?
God, so many great moments.
I think the thing that stands out was my very first trip from Fay to Antonica. It was June of 99 and I had just started playing so I wa a noob on a new server. No one was able to port, and honestly, I think asking for a port was the last thing I would have done. I dont think I ever got a port until I was in my 30's. God what noob I was
I had a mission to get to odus. I was a level 11 High Elf enchanter and needed to meet a RL friend in odus. The entire trip took all day. It was great. I really wasnt sure where I was going but I knew I had to travel west.
It was the first time I left fay. In butcherblock I was run down by Corflunk. I couldnt understand why this player was killing me. Didnt occur to me that this was a nasty NPC LOL I hit the docks, waited with anticipation hoping I was at the right spot and tried talking to a dwarf that was there. Little did I know that the dwarf was a NPC LOL
So I got on the boat and made my way finally to Freeport. I got lost a few times and headed in the wrong direction but luck for me, there was a friendly human cleric who got me bound, led me to East commons and pointed the way.
I was chased through east commons by a griffin *ack*, I watched the hill giants stomp back and forth from a distance in west commons. I got lost and nervous through Kithicor. Luckily this zone hadnt changed over to the bad-at night that it is today.
I made my way to Highkeep and there was a nice wizard erudite who was hunting orcs who bound me at the keep, showed me where the bank was and helped me find east karana.. which I promptly fell off the cliff and had to run down that damn ramp naked and back up the gorge for my corpse.
Got chased by froon >>> LOADING PLEASE WAIT.... Another stroke of luck! there was a druid there who helped me with froon and I was able to get my corpse. He gave me my first wolf form.
I was chased across west karana by bandits and had my first encounter with a werewolf. yes. "LOADING PLEASE WAIT...". I still get unnerved by seeing them because of the first encounter with them.
Got lost in Qey hills trying to find "odus" and nice people were able to help me with instructions. A half elf ranger who I remain friends with 5 years later, grouped with me and we travelled to odus together

The best EQ moment was when i was in the The OT(Overthere) and was with my human SK and most classes were KoS there( killed on sight) anyways we were grouped for about 4 hours killing and lvling all the sudden Goons came lol from nowhere and killed my whole group i was the only one left lol cause i wasnt KoS to them i think that was pretty kool.
After falling off our fort a couple of times and being killed by Orc Pawns just outside our village, we decided wood elf wasn't the way for us. So we both made Dwarven warriors. We stuck with those, and immediately started killing things outside our castle. ooooh i forget the name of it =(
Anyway, i remember fighting those creatures which sometimes dropped claw's worth 3 platinum. We called them 'kraig leafs'....don't ask why, it was a nickname and it seemed to stick. haha After hunting these for a while, we started to complete our quest and receive armor. It was amazing! The armor look so nice, it just made me want to keep getting more. The hardest was the chest peice, as i needed a Giant Spider Carapace, which was rare in the woods. So we got a ranger to help us find it! I remember thinking, wow what a cool game! I actually need the help of another class to helpe me achieve my quest, i love it!
So i got my full suit of dwarven warrior armor. Damn i looked nice. hehe, then i saw a man with a sweet axe and asked him where he got it. he then replied hede sell it to me! I was so happy, and lucky i had hunted those kraig leafs previous! I bought it from his for a whopping 9 platinum which seemed like a lot to me. After this, we set off on a boat to some port. Being 1am and having to wake up at 5am the next day.....mehhh EQ seemed too fun to quit now. The greatest part was that the boat took real time to get there! No fake warping! We sat on the boat and talked to a druid and bard about where they were going. Now thats how you get a community going, force people to sit on a boat and chat! hehe
After arriving in the port, i immediately saw a treasure in the water. So i jumped in to get it, unluckily finding a massive shark guarding it! I actually got worried and was on the edge of my seat as i bashed it with my new axe. My buddy jumped in to take the aggro, and while doing so i got the treasure! We both rushed to shore to see what it was, but it was locked so of course, we forgot about it. haha
After that we actually stoped playing EQ and turned to Anarchy Online. I play SWG now, but it can't compare to my EQ moments.
Everquest 2 is going to be amazing though. I can't wait to transform myself as an Illusionist/Enchanter Erudite. I want to play EQ2 longer though, and experience running from griffins and battling massive giants and taking part in raids. All we can do is wait right? But the wait WILL redeem itself once this sweet sweet game is released. Or, beta for me hehe Keep the stories coming guys, this is actually quite fun reading! lol

First off... Great stories.
My favorite moments in EQ had to be when I first started playing. Me and my cousin both started in freeport so we could adventure together. When we first started hunting in the commons it was so scary. You never knew what was going to come over a hill or around a tree and attack you. lions and lionesses were the worst. I would spin in a circle about ten times during a fight just to make sure a lion wasn't headed my way. That was also back when corpses stayed around for a long time. I remember learning the landscape by this dwarfs corpses that were everywhere. If we died we would try to remember which pile of his corpses we were close to and then look for our own from there.
That is what I want from EQ2, the feeling of not being safe all the time. Games feel to sheltered now, you should be honestly afraid of being killed in a game. It is so much more fun when you are on the edge of your seat and have to keep watching your back while exploring a new area. That way it means more when you are able to barely escape with your life.
My best moment was when I was trying to build up my alcohol tollerance and I was taking the boat to butcher block and ended up falling off because I was way too drunk. Well I was so lost and had to swim around for 30+ minutes until someone could understand me to give me a loc hehe
Another question is what were your favorite zones or favorite places in EQ? Mine was tower of frozen shadow, the wedding floor. We would be up there for hours it was alot of fun. After hitting 60 it was more of a power trip just going in there and seeing which one of us could lvl the place with AOE spells.
Oh how I miss it sometimes..........
The greatest moment for me was when i tried to get to freeport as a wood elf ranger to group with my brother. (Before the Planes of Power expansion.) I had no maps at all and i had troble finding my way around ketelin. It took me a while and i fainally relized that i wasn't supposed to go into the lesser faydark and into the steamfront mountains....for the longest time i thought that was where the boat to antonica was. After a while of asking other players i found that i went the wrong way. I turned around and headed into Butcherblock Mountains. That again proved problematic. I did not know my way around the area one bit. I followed the roads and ran into tons of dead ends. After a few hours of exploring I found the boats and hoped on one to Antonica. There were a few other players on the boats which I talked to. They were all higher levels and gave me a few pieces of low lvl armour. When the boat came to the port I meet my brother on the dock. We soon went into the commonlands and killed mobs left and right....i miss the good ol' days. After my brother stopped playing I quit the ranger and started a beastlord. A few characters past that i finally started my shaman. Which i am still today.

My favorite moment was when my higher level wizard got her first super nova spell. I hired 4 or so lvl 10 noobies for 5 plat each to run around west commons training as many mobs as they could and all converging on the area near the druid circle at the same time. I'd light off the super nova and smell the monumental carnage. The adulation of noobies was also very gratifying to my ego.
