so far, I've heard bad about Age of Conan. Warhammer Online doesn't do it for me either, I don't want to play a game with the same graphics of a game I played for over 2 years (WoW) I would rather see a new style. I'm sure WAR might be good so, but just not for me.
There was Gods and Heroes...whoops SOE is involved, nvm. We all saw what SOE did with vanguard, bought them out even when they said oh no we aren't selling to SOE etc etc.
So, my last hope for a good mmorpg comes down to
Aion (looks good and brings promising features, it looks unique, but I dunno how well it will do)
Tabula Rasa (looks amazing and seems very fun, haven't heard anything from it but from what I've read this is the top mmorpg I'm waiting for, a good sci-fi mmorpg is what I need. Sure there is Anarchy Online, but the graphics hurt my eyes, I have problems with older style graphics that after 30min of playing my vision gets really blurry and my eyes start hurting. The new graphics are more soothing on my eyes than older...but anyways, I really hope this succeeds.)
Stargate Worlds (love stargate, dunno much about this , but hopefully it succeeds.)
Then the lesser mmorpgs that I might try but not too interested in, but they are backups
Pirates of the Burning Sea
Dark Fall (even so its most likely vaporware, that is why its not my top list)
Thats about it really, mostly waiting for Tabula Rasa and Aion. I dont see myself playing mmorpgs for awhile if those two fail.
So what mmorpg(s) are you waiting for that will decide if you keep playing mmorpgs or not?

Current Games: WOW, EVE Online
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
My deathbed is my last hope. Everything else is wide open.
I'm really hoping to see something new with PotBS, and I like water, if it turns out to be more of a MMO-strategy game, then all the better. I'm also hopping to see something new with GaH.
I'm also worshiping Hellgate: London. True its not an MMO but it is a MIOARPG (massively instanced action RPG) and if I like it I will say by to MMOs for a few years (ok, who am I kidding – I'll be picking up AoC and WAR because I don't mind spending money).
Warhammer Online does it for me though, and will be the one. I've been through mostly all MMOs. WAR is the one that I am getting excited about, but not getting my hopes up of course.
Last? As long as I breath, I will hope. But current hopes? Here they are...
1- BioWare MMO, it is going to change our lives! (Fanboi warning, fanboi...red light)
2- Stargate
3- Aion
4- Hero's Journey
5- Tabula Rasa
Maybe WAR will be a PH, if not then it will be CoV.
I am waiting for Civ IV next expansion, due to end of July. Nothing completely new in the features I saw, but maybe it would be wonderful nonetheless. The space race is different...and some scenario are funny, kinda what many players already do with their free time, just done by pro with time...I think it is a good strategy, cause they add new tools, they cheat and they beat the existing free player content, so the players will probably outdo the staff again, which is good news, good news and good news. ATM the feature which annoy me the most in it is the lack of balancing (nothing can be done here) and the way great wonder racing works...I mean, your capital wasting 1000 years because someone finish the race faster...very bad IMO. Money is better then nothing. Maybe once you start working on a wonder nobody could work on it, yet maybe some peoples could possibly slow your progress on it...if you are unable to switch projects and must complete that wonder, this kinda means that your city is paralyzed until completion, whoever starts it first win the race unless the city is conquered or razed before completion... Maybe the city need some requirements before starting the race for the wonder, but once you starts, it should be yours. It make no sense to lose 1000 years of work because someone finish before you, this is not logical and aggravating.
PS: If you are experiencing troubles to understand all my shortcuts sigles...LOL NOOB! *tease evilly*

And I have always thought that there has never really been a great MMORPG. CRPGs don't translate well to MMORPGs.
I have also thought, if anyone can do it, BioWare can.
I think we will really see something special from them. I hate the current MMO quest systems. Someone telling me what to do? I want choices, and I want those choices to affect my gameplay and the world around me. I think if anyone will try to pull this off, it will be BioWare. And if they stay more true to the current D&D skill systems all the better.

I agree. (I am a fanboi after all)
Don't overlook Stargate. If you like Planescape...they have the Zeb! He may do mistakes, he isn't perfect, he join and left Cryptic and we don't know why, can only fabulate (he prolly was saying nerfs are bad, raiding is bad...or maybe I don't understand the Zeb...hehe, but I like to imagine him saying to stop the nerfing at once and losing job because of this disagreement, the Nerfaggedon is hopefully over in CoX).

Eh 3rd edition is pretty boring when translated to crpg.
WARs graphics may be similiar to WoWs, but I think it will be differnt enough when you play the game that it will allow you to enjoy yourself. From what I've seen WARs graphics are a lot more solid looking and less polygonish.
There will always be new games coming out. One of them is bound to be fun for you sooner or later.
All those other MMORPGs coming out are...bleh...
I dunno why, they all seem like they'll be the same stuff over and over again, leveling, questing, getting new loot...
Somehow I'm totally fed up on RPGs as it seems, I just can't stand them any longer...
So I'm waiting for WAR and Spore, but if AoC happens to actually be fun, I'll give it a shot as well, same with Hellgate: London...
But Spore and WAR will be so much fun guaranteed, it's hard to wait for them.

Do not hate it, but instead embrace the diversity.
From the whispers I've been hearing, Tabula Rasa doesn't have much of anything going for it. Huxley, or possibly Fury, will steal much of what little thunder it might have.
Hero's Journey? Just a tech demo for their game engine.
Warhammer will do well if Mythic can release it in a solid, relatively bugfree state.
AoC will do well on box sales, but the twitch-y combat will fall prey to lag in a big way, which will ultimately be the downfall for this one. Plus, being able to decapitate people will attract a more idiots than 10 Barrens chats.
Funcom's other MMO project, The Secret World, has a setting which has certainly grabbed my attention. It remains to be seen if they can follow up the innovative setting with some innovative gameplay concepts.
Aion? Not a fan of the Korean thing, so I could care less about this title.
Gods and Heroes could do well, but SOE and their poor reputation with the MMO community will hurt the game a lot, I think.
Pirates of the Burning Sea will have a small niche of very dedicated players, and will do well for what it is, just like it's inspiration, Eve. If it feels more "action-y" than Eve, I'm sold barring it turning out to be a technical snafu.
Stargate/Star Trek? Not gonna make it. Either won't be released, or will barely limp along if they do.
However, at the end of the day, I have no hope for any of the aforementioned games to be anything but the same regurgitated shitte we've been getting for some years now.
A friend of mine played TR at E3 a couple years ago for about 45min and said it was extremely fun. We'll see how well that holds out for the long term but from everything I've read and from his talk of the game after that experience I have high hopes.
WAR just seems to get better with each interview I read, I'm looking forward to leveling through PvP immensely and in general the whole game seems to be coming along very well. The graphics seem to be pretty unique and the game looks like it should be much more fast paced than WoW or LOTRO. At this point I'm counting on WAR to pull through as my next favorite game... cmooon Mythic!

And overall bitter old man.
Not a last hope by any means, but I'm looking forward to Fallen Earth......
Hellgate London (awesome FPS combat I loved it at E3 didnt wanna stop playing!), Darkfall online (if not vapors)
Huxley, maybe Aion for the angel vs demon dynamic. ncsoft also has some sorta mecha arena pvp MMO that look decent
well to be honest DFO was my last hope lol. so right now im hopeless and despondent. the others can only last me for so long. was down for fallen earth til they went level based
the marvel superhero MMO might be interesting if crytpic dfoesnt screw up the pvp. or maybe DC superheroes
dont expect much depth from the superhero MMOs though.
Sage comments Coldmeat - meanwhile I'll be playing Hellgate: London for 2 years solid while I try each of the above mentioned games for 1 month each. PotBS a bit longer because water is good.
FF11 is still the only MMO that I feel I could go back and enjoy at any time, despite the controls always being extremely odd to get the hang of again and again.
I'll give Hellgate a whirl when it comes out. It can't possibly be as bad as Dungeon Runners. Well, I suppose it could, but then it'd be Vanguard.
I'm a bit worried about the ranged combat though. The video I caught of it the other day made it look like a whole lot of kiting, and I got tired of that back in EQ playing a druid.
Still, it's not elves, and dwarves, and vaguely homoerotic hobbits, so that counts for something.
As a side note, although next to no information has been released about it, I think that Guild Wars 2 will be one to watch for the far...far future. The concepts that the devs are toying with seem to have potential.
hm, ranged combat in hellgate london---- I cant remember which class I was. think it was the Templar? But it was early E3 sample. flagship programmer I talked to said they wiped together some sample gameplay
I think i had both a gun and a sword. So I'd shoot the demons and when they got close I'd cut them down. MAybe you saw a vid of the summoner type i did not play as that class
will be the coop PvE MMO hybrid im looking for. they also got the vid of that samurai looking warrior which looks interesting
I jsut expect hellgate to be a really solid coop RPG to play with my buds casually. I dont expect much depth just good ole diablo style hack and slash. but havent checked their site in awhile maybe they added some crafting....
edit- they gave me the comic book at E3 it was so awesome. they got such a great background and the best videos. A lot of money pumped into it. you know its gotta be good guys because I really cant stand much PvE MMO these days but this really gonna have some good solid coop gameplay and nice use of dynamic content. will be instanced heavily but it will be appropriate cause its free to play or pay to help them develop expansions. im thinking ima be playing it kinda giving up on MMOs getting good PvP. gonna justhack and slash inhellgate.
Full Aiming and FPS type of stuff. its so much fun I miss it
Seriously I never get excited about any PVE (unless its a coop RPG or single player RPG) but in hellgate man its just tooo awesome. demons invading the whole earth. apoloclypase and ppl dying everywhere. just blood and gore and its just violent as hell
I cant wait guys its hella awesome. thanks for reminding me now I'm happy once again!!!!!!!
There is no MMORPG that will ever be "my last hope." I have played computer games since I was in diapers on the commodore64 (Yes, I am young... 24) Regardless, I will always play computer games of all genres and never give up or stop playing any one genre. As games come out, if they catch my interest I will buy them and try them. I tend to purchse 8-12 games a year depending on if it is a good year for PC titles. I have a couple consoles that I've purchased during particularly dry seasons for PC titles, but prefer PC games over a console any day.
Back to the topic though, there will never be a title that determines if I will continue playing the MMORPG genre. I will most likely continue playing EVE on and off trying other games here and there. I plan to give AoC and WAR a try. TR and the newly announced "The Agent looks good. The Agent is being produced by SOE though, so I am very skeptical about that one. Looking around on the forums for some of their old games, the forums are dead and those left discuss alot about whether SOE will shut them down or not and how there is no longer any fixes or support for the game. Not my idea of a quality service... Hopefully The Agent is done better under their new business plan, but we'll see.
its my "new hope" rather
im into WYD Global right now... they have just launched their servers today...
i like pvp's and guild wars... it builds friendship and hatred at the same time... lol... i love to kill!
